A Trip to Trinidad

IMG_20240629_095012.jpg

The first and last time I visited Trinidad, located geographically in the central region of Cuba, I was shocked by how such a humble city makes you travel in time and learn so much from the culture of this country in a snap. Together with my travel crew, I was invited to go and expand my view of the world, nothing less than in this amazing city. Do you want a tour?

Before going, I was picked up by a taxi from my home up to the current municipality, taking around five hours by road. When arriving, the full group was received by an incredible meal hosted by the motel where we stayed. We also shared our previous experience in the foreign country of the United States of America while we had dinner, and we got ready to explore the mountains and alleys of the zone the next day.

The day after that, we woke up early to begin our journey to the top of the mountains. We had breakfast, and we went out in our best explorer outfits. We visited the nearest museums, the central church, and the local areas around. I couldn’t even believe that there are still people who ride horses as a transportation alternative, including young people and children in the middle of the streets. After two hours on foot, we entered the greenest zone where there wasn’t any street anymore, by crossing a train rail where the truth awaited us.

We crossed farms, ran from cows, fell in wet earth, hiked rocky mountains, jumped rivers and saw a lot of weird vegetation to get to Javira´s waterfall, which was our main destiny. We get there really tired, but it didn’t impede us from enjoying the cold of the water and the caves full of bats in there. My shoes were covered by mud and my clothes were all wet, but I enjoyed the long walk. I also took some photos that I loved and became memories of this trip adventure.

When the sunset was heading up, we left the place and we marked our route to the motel following the same way we used to get there. Then, right before the sky got dark, we had a set of conferences taught by members of the crew who were also entrepreneurs, where I talked about crypto and bitcoin as well to a bunch of local business leaders in Trinidad. To make better use of time and keep knowing the place, our tourist guide guided us to an underground nightclub where we danced to the rhythm of the music until midnight and then we had dinner.

That was our second day in Trinidad gone in a flash, and we only had one day ahead to explore the rest of the city. We rented a car, which gave us a tour of the closest regions of the municipality. Names like Manaca, El Mirador and San Isidro stuck in my head, after visiting old slave sugar mills with a very sad story behind, and a local artisan community led by women whom I had the opportunity to onboard into bitcoin and Hive, being my shortest free consulting ever made in life. I was gifted with some manufactured clothes created by them, and I bought some garments as well.

In the return to the motel that day at night, we all had dinner together and talked again in a group, but this time about how much we had liked the experience of visiting Trinidad for the first time. And to you, if you haven’t been there yet, I can assure you will like it if you love seing old architecture in live and you would like to go back in time without leaving your timeline at all and enjoy amazing views, natural environment, and Cuban food, you should visit this place as sooner as possible.

Trinidad is a city stopped in time. Its streets, its church, and its park have so much to tell. I was there in 1988 with a group of friends. We visited several places in the city like Playa Ancón and El Salto del Caburní. I hope to return one day to stroll through some of the places you show and that I don't know. Greetings.
