I think this is the darkest post I've ever published on my blog, and no, it's not about anything scary 😄, it's just that the accompanying photos were taken in a peculiar place with very little light: the lava tunnels on Santa Cruz Island.

After seeing the incredible collapse craters, the day's tour continued to this nearby place that the taxi driver-guide told me was unique and worth visiting. Since it is located on private property, there is an entrance fee, but it was a small amount.

They gave us a brief explanation of the origin of these tunnels and we headed to the entrance. The tour can last about 20-30 minutes, depending on each person's pace. There is no need for a flashlight because there are several light bulbs located at strategic points, both so that visitors do not fall and so that they can observe details of this formation.

Magma flows generated by ancient eruptions created these impressive lava tunnels. Until then, I had no idea that something like this existed. Without a doubt, our planet is wonderful and surprising.

One thing I don't like is using flash to take photos, but in this case it was necessary. Even so, most of the images didn't turn out as I expected, but hey, at least I managed to capture something.

There were few people in the tunnels, and the atmosphere was a mixture of excitement and mystery. I felt like Indiana Jones 😄.

I walked slowly and carefully, both to see everything around me and to avoid falling, as the ground was uneven and there were lots of rocks lying around. They didn't give us helmets, so there must not have been any danger of rockfalls.

The tunnels are approximately 1 km long. Imagine the power of liquid lava to create something like this. It's simply incredible!

In these galleries with columns and basalt walls of varying heights, you can see countless textures and solidified shapes.

En estas galerías con columnas y paredes de basalto de diferentes alturas, se pueden observar innumerables texturas y formas solidificadas.

I remember the names of some of these: rough slag, skylights, collapsed tubes, petrified drips, and lava stalactites.

Recuerdo los nombres de algunas de ellas: escoria rugosa, claraboyas, tubos colapsados, gotas petrificados y lavacitas (estalactitas de lava).

After more than half an hour with our pupils dilated, we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel 😃.
