There are many places to explore in our country. Most of them have their own unique ways of expressing their beauty. While some have wild gestures and upon visiting these wild beauties, if you are not careful you might end up being the victim of these extreme beauty of the nature. Which is why, I am going to take you to a tour of one of those extreme beautiful places where people from all across the country tries to visit and spend some quality time within the nature.

Tanguar Haor

A Day Long Tour in Tanguar Haor

Tanguar Haor (Bengali: টাঙ্গুয়ার হাওর) is a wetland ecosystem located in the Dharmapasha and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj District in Bangladesh. The area of Tanguar Haor including 46 villages within the haor is about 100 square kilometres (39 sq mi) of which 2,802.36 ha2 is wetland. It is the source of livelihood for more than 40,000 people. For more details visit Wikipedia.....

Tanguar Haor is one of the most unique place to visit and explore. The wetland is probably one of the most exquisite place to visit. You will have mixed feelings while traveling through the Haor. While you are exploring the Haor with a boat/house boat you will feel like as if you are in the ocean. The only absence which you will miss would be the heavy waves of the ocean and all the wilderness of it. But make no mistake, the experience which you will go through while exploring it will be on your mind for a very long time.

If you love water, landscape, boat rides, swimming, adventure all of these would be your day long routine for this trip. Since it is situated near the border line of Sylhet, you will be mesmerized with the views of Meghalaya our neighboring country India. All the landscapes and the view, it will all together make your day worth while.

This trip was arranged by one of my cousin. Like people say, sudden plans are always the best! This trip was planned just a day before and honestly, I was not even in the mood of going. But my better half, she sort of like forced me to take the day off and made me go on this trip. After the day, it felt like it was really worth it.

We started our day from the very morning. We woke up at 5 am and started preparing. It was a day long trip. It took us almost 4 hours to reach our destination. We were traveling with a group, who usually arranges these sort of trips almost every week. The group was of about 25 people. Men, women, children of all ages! We took off in a bus and were ready to start the journey at approximately 7 am. The day was really amazing and we were going through the thought that the rain will eventually ruin everything. But thanks it did the very opposite.

The trip was designed this way, where we can get the best possible result of the day

  • Start the journey at around 7 am
  • Reach to Tanguar Haor at around 11 am
  • Get on the House Boat
  • Have Breakfast on the boat
  • Explore the Haor
  • Get on a smaller boat and reach to the destination of Swimmming
  • Go for Swimming
  • Get back to House Boat
  • Have Lunch on the boat
  • Enjoy the ride and later get back to the land
  • Ride back Home

This was the view from inside the boat. I can not say, how exciting it was. It felt really amazing. To say the design of the House boat, it had 6 rooms on the boat with beds and pillow. You can literally lay down and enjoy the view from inside the room. There were this big windows where you can literally check the outside and put your hands out and literally reach the water. Laying down on the bed and you get to witness these mesmerizing scenarios, with one of your favorite music playing in the background. That is probably one of the best atmosphere anyone can get. Enjoy some beautiful scenarios as we started the journey from the boat as we were slowly approaching towards the destination where the the water level is low and we will get to swimming in that place.

The most exciting part while being in the house boat was watching these small houses within the haor. As if they were small islands where people are staying and enjoying the wilderness in their own world. It is very adeventerous and mostly very very dangerous just to think about it little deeply. Because just think about an emergency which might happen at any given time, it will literally take hours to get help from the land. It took us almost an hours just to see something like this. The only way of getting help to and from these small islands would be via the help of boats. Yes, the good thing about the mobile network was it was available at full speed and there were no laggings at all. Since it is teh raining season the water has risen to a very critical level and it gets even scarier when there is a situation of flood in these areas.

Finally we reached the destination of ours. Since this is where the water level is low, our house boat can not go any further. And the place that we were looking for, it was quite far and its approximately 5-10 minutes away in engine boat. So we took changed our clothes and changed our boat, a smaller one and started our next journey. I must say this was even more pleasing. Because under normal circumstances the days are very humid, so with no shades and nothing to be saved from the sun it would have been a hell of a ride. But to our surprise the weather was very friendly towards us. Not raining not even that much of a sun shine but it was at peak noon time.

As you can see there were other boats out in there where people have come just like us to enjoy this time and have some beautiful memories. I must say, some of these boats were very beautiful. With colorful designs and making the roof top of the boat accessible, it was more than exciting.

This is how were reaching towards the next destination on the smaller boat. Can you imagine you sitting at the tip of the boat and it was going pretty fast and you are the one enjoying the view from the very key point of the boat. That feeling was insane.

We were given a break of 40 minutes. Where safety gears were given to us and we were told to use them at all times. Since the place is wild better be safe than sorry. Well, who would listen to such talks when you are in the wilderness. Better make the memory even more exciting and worth while.

People were getting on these trees and taking pictures, having tea in these places was probably the best part. Yes, you heard it right. There were small vendors on this place in boats, where they were selling tea, snacks of few types. I must say considering the situations these were perfect. We were there for more than the time given to us which is why we were late for arriving but it was well worth it.

Later, we arrived at our house boat and changed the wet clothes. This trip literally made us hungry at its peak. We had some lunch and that even in the roof top of the boat. It was literally amazing to have this moment and just enjoy getting together with the nature.

Since we were not traveling alone, it made the trip even more amazing. We got to know people all across the city and perhaps we would have never met in real life but this trip made us come together all along. I must say it was well worth it and I will probably visit again in the coming days.
