The Fusina Lakes - a trip in the North of Italy
Source: Author
Dear friends of Hive, I hope you are all well, I am magnificently: here I am talking to you!
Today I am telling you about a beautiful ride I took to the Fusina Lakes in northern Friuli Venezia Giulia, just a few kilometers after Tarvisio close to the border with Slovenia.
Here to understand it well:
The lakes are from glacial origins and are not very deep. Arranged on two levels, the upper lake, through underground connections feeds the lower one and together they feed the outflow.
Since 1971 this area has become the Fusina Lakes Natural Park.
The underground connection is due to the characteristic karst zone of the adjacent mountains.
Given the particular conformation in this part of Italy the lowest winter temperatures are reached, in fact during the winter these lakes are frozen most of the time; this is due to poor sunlight because of the mountains next to them.
After enough theory, and let's start the tour: ready with backpack for packed lunch and hiking shoes?
Let's go!
I just parked the car and already put on my shoes, backpack on my shoulders and off we go!
I left my smartphone on charge on the way so I could take as many photos as I like without running out of battery!
Let's start from the end, at the outfall with characteristic creek with its tumultuous character that runs alongside the access road.
Here it is pretty, isn't it?
Eh, a backlight like that I wouldn't have missed for anything in the world!
We continue the tour and arrive directly at the spillway of the outfall, where, of course there is a processing plant.
As usual there is no lack of backlighting, but this time it was intentional because I wanted to hide the water intake works in the left part of the photo!
Now the tour begins, of the lake, since it is long enough I didn't manage to visit the upper lake as well: a good excuse to come back... Will you come along with me next time?
Come on stop with the speeches and let us see the photos!
See the water what a beautiful emerald green it has?
... We are coming to the end ... time for reflection ...
Uh, this one doesn't fit, you put a tree and upside down to boot!
... Look closely tell me, what do you see on the sides of the tip of the tree?
Boulders perchance inside the water ...
Here, as I wrote at the beginning, the lower lake is fed by the upper lake through underground caverns, lo and behold, one of them has popped to the surface!
It was a beautiful sunny and warm day, in fact now that the star of the world is hiding behind the mountains it is highlighting its work: the mist that can be seen is all due to the warming of the sun!
The lake tour is over, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and had fun taking pictures.
Did you do any experiments? I did, now I'll show them to you.
As you know I have a weakness for manual photography and playing with exposure times, so what better occasion to try the silk effect?
Well first photo with parameters set without too much precision, you can see that the white of the moving water is overexposed.
I change the time and keep the aperture "closed":
Much better, so let's try to decrease the time a little more and "close" the aperture just barely:
Almost perfect result, the white of the moving water has turned almost blue and overexposed areas are almost nonexistent! Great job!
That's it for this hike too, see you at the next one, have your backpacks and shoes ready!
What a wonderful place to have a walk! Too bad is so far from where I live... I would have loved to do some trekking there :)

È la prima volta che sento parlare di questo lago, molto bello. Un paesaggio ottimale per stare a contatto con la natura e rilassarsi un po’
