Scheveningen Beach: A Haven of Tranquility in the Dutch Autumn

(Edited)
You will find ***Scheveningen Beach*** on the Dutch coast of the North Sea. Scheveningen is a bustling stretch of beach that transforms into a serene haven in the autumn months.

Once the summer crowds subside, Scheveningen reveals its unique blend of charm and cozy atmosphere. And that feeling hits the moment you descend the stairs to the promenade.

Scheveningen beach during autumn is a time to unwind and embrace the tranquillity of nature.

The crowded beach of summer gives way to a peaceful place.

You can find activities here in the winter, too.

You'd love it if I'd take you along the promenade.

The colossal and imposing building of the "Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus" is not to be missed. In the past, this hotel was the place to be.

But unfortunately, it is no longer worthy of the five stars it carries (according to recent visitors). Among other things, because of its outdated rooms and mediocre service.

Let's walk on.

Now that temperatures are dropping, that does not mean there is nothing to see or do. Scheveningen's cozy beach restaurants and cafés welcome visitors with a warm ambiance and delicious food.

With a panoramic view of the rippling sea or the authentic carousel on the promenade, enjoy a savory fish soup or a hot cup of chocolate.

Savor the aroma of freshly baked waffles or traditional Dutch poffertjes.

Humphrey's Restaurant

You can sit cozily warm inside, but for the best view, I recommend a spot on the heated terrace at the top of the promenade or at one of the cozy beach bars that are still open.
El Niño Beach Club

Let me warn you, though, about our seagulls always lurking for a tasty snack.

Due to their imposing size, they stay within reach their goal.

So keep a close eye on your snack because before you know it, it will fly through the air into the beak of a hungry gull.

Eating and drinking are only some of what you can do here.

Besides shops & food trucks, admiring art is also one of the many options.

One of the most famous works of art on the promenade is "**Fairy Tale Statues by the Sea** ."
This sculpture terrace was designed by the American sculptor Tom Otterness.

It consists of more than 20 bronze sculptures. And depict different fairy tales. For instance, there are sculptures of Hansel and Gretel, the wolf and the seven goats, and the mermaid.

But the most striking artwork on the promenade is "**The Haringeter.**"

This 3.5-metre-tall sculpture, by Tom Otterness, depicts a man eating a herring.

The sculpture is a symbol of Scheveningen, known for its fresh herring.

Besides these two significant works of art, many other smaller pieces can be found on Scheveningen's promenade.

These include sculptures of fishermen, bathers, and other figures linked to Scheveningen.

The artwork is pleasing to the eye and gives the promenade a unique look.

I will be on the beach again.

I know the sea is calling and want to feel the sand under my feet.

The crisp autumn breeze refreshes the senses, while the tranquil sound of waves brings peace.

I prefer to stay quiet now and let the photos and videos speak for themselves.

The Pier
Also, walk up the pier, where you have stunning views from the Ferris wheel. And for thrill-seekers, bungee jumping from the tower.

Here, you can discover the adventures the pier has in store.

Walking along the beach, you will see many ships passing the beach, lining up to enter the port.

They are ordinary beach shells, but I still find them very special. Their shape is perfect, and they have a beautiful color. I love to leave with my coat pocket full of shells.

Scheveningen's enchanting boulevard.
Whether looking for refreshing walks, culinary delights, or a moment of tranquillity, Scheveningen Beach in autumn promises an unforgettable experience.

Wishing you all the best in life and much health. Paula (@meraki7578) 💚

Hi @meraki7578, you wrote a lovely post about Scheveningen Beach! I fell in love with your beautiful country when visiting my son recently (he emigrated there). He was determined to take me to Scheveningen, but unfortunately, the weather turned that day with strong chilly winds and no sun, so we did not get to see all of it, just walked the promenade, but we will definitely go back there next year in spring when I hope to visit him again, and we'll make sure we watch the weather report;)

Thank you for your sweet words. 🥰
And fantastic that our little country has managed to enchant you.
I hope you get to visit your son often and all the other wonderful places.
Don't forget to visit the beautiful south of The Netherlands, where I live.
Definitely worth a visit too.
Hahaha and keep an eye on the weather forecast, Dutch weather is unpredictable.☔😉

Grateful every day that I get to live here.
And well realize how lucky I am. 🥰
The seagulls by the sea are terrifying, the size of a small dog and very bold. 🫣
