Urban Hike/Walk at Balboa Park - San Diego, CA [EN/PT-BR]
[EN]
Today I went for a walk at Balboa Park. Me and my wife usually go out on dates when the kids are at school. So we went to have lunch near downtown and decided to go for a walk at the park as well.
Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre (490 ha) historic urban cultural park in San Diego, California. Placed in reserve in 1835, the park's site is one of the oldest in the United States dedicated to public recreational use. The park hosts various museums, theaters, restaurants, and the San Diego Zoo. It is managed and maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of San Diego.

The park hosts mosts of the museums of the city of San Diego, including Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, Museum of Arts, and many others. It also has many different gardens including the Japanese Friendship Garden, and the famous San Diego Zoo is also inside Balboa Park. In the first picture above, you can see a little bit of Cabrillo Bridge and The California Tower (built in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition), both icons of San Diego.
The park has more then 65 miles of trails, so since we didn't have much time, we walked only on the west side of the park. We did a 2.5 mile walk that started from Marston Point, and we walked all the way to the Marston House Museum, then back using the lower part of the trail making a loop, instead of going back the same way we came.
Let's check out some pictures.

Hoje fui passear no Balboa Park.

Marston Point, where we started, is right next to the head of the airport runway, so you see big commercial jets flying over your head quite often. I tried to show on the pictures more of the non urban part of the trail, but we were often close to busy streets.

In the pictures above you can see we were on top of one side of Cabrillo Bridge. The other side of the bridge is the main part of Balboa Park where most the museums and gardens are. We didn't have time to go to that side today, so we just kept on going.

We passed Redwood Circle, and there were a lot of homeless people there. I tried to keep them out of the pictures, but since the park is right at downtown, you do see homeless people quite frequently. I lot of people asks me about the homeless problems in California, but I think it's just like any big city in the world.
We also walked past the Trees for Health Garden, where we saw many medicinal plants we had heard of before but had never seen in person. The garden appeared to be beautifully maintained.

We finally made it to the Marston House Museum. We walked around the garden and got back to the trail to start the lower part back to Marston Point where we parked our car.

The lower part of the trail was pretty dirty, had more homeless people, it was not so well maintained and it goes along the freeway. To be honest I didn't like that part of it, but it goes under Cabrillo Bridge and I had a opportunity to get some pictures of the bridge. At the end there was a long stairwell that made the exercise worth it, we sweated up that hill.
I will have to go back to Balboa Park to make a few more posts. Walk on the other side of the bridge where the gardens and museums are, and also I want to take my drone there to get some aerial pictures. Should be fun to see all this from above.
Hope you enjoyed it!

There's a pay-per-use disc golf course there in Balboa.. me and my boy @party-trout played it when I was there..
Nice! I've been there a couple of times too! Fun course, but even more fun with that joint! Disc golf is no fun without some weed.
I'd rather go disc golfing without a disc than to go without weed..
100%

What an experience of enjoyment and a little reflection during your visit to Cabrillo Bridge and Balboa Park. It would also excite me to see these medicinal plants in person. It's a fantastic spectacle. These homeless people, I guess, are a reality that is prevalently faced by many places. Next time you can explore the other side of Balboa Park! You surely piqued my interest in visiting it myself.
Essas fotos do avião ficaram foda!

The peacefulness of this location is so engaging that it immediately makes me feel relaxed and calm. I am at ease here, basking in nature's lovely views and the tranquil environment. It's the best retreat from the noise and unrest of daily existence, where I can unwind, rejuvenate, and live for the moment to the fullest. There's just something so mesmerizing about existing in a locale that is so peaceful and renewing.
