Leonardo Fabio Cultural Center: the home of art and conscious / Centro Cultural Leonardo Fabio: la casa del arte y la conciencia

This cultural center located in Lanús Este, province of Buenos Aires, called Leonardo Fabio in honor of the late Argentine singer and filmmaker, is a jewel in the middle of the concrete jungle. In fact, I found it by chance when I was looking for options to visit in this city to which I go quite often, but I had never seen it, since it is on a cross street and therefore it is visible at first sight.

But once you locate it, it is difficult not to see it, since it stands out for its beige and light blue structure, which invites you to enter just out of curiosity.

Internally it is divided into 6 exhibition rooms, each painted in a different color, making the tour an extraordinary visual sensory activity, especially because it does not obscure the works on display, but conditions you for what you will see in each of them.

Inaugurated in 2014, it has been a space for local artists to have a space where they can show their creations. Currently, the entire gallery presents the work of Carlos Perez Turco, Retrospectiva, which brings together several of his pieces made between 1954 and 2024.

Its large windows help natural light to enter directly, although the internal lighting contributes to highlight the works without generating the damage of a direct exposure.

In its adjacent areas there is also a children's playground and many benches painted with the colors of the Wiphala flag, which I interpret as an invitation to the unconscious for anyone, without distinction, to enjoy its facilities.

At the back, in addition to a small kiosk, you can see a large space that could function as an outdoor concert hall or for recreational activities without having to close the street or expose yourself to any other type of danger.

An extra aspect that I liked was the use of current technologies to call the community to enjoy this space, informing through social networks about their ongoing activities.

When I was about to leave, I found a space made in tribute to Martin Castellucci, of whom I had no knowledge until I got home and googled him, being very saddened by his story, since he was beaten to death for not accepting that a friend was excluded from entering a nightclub.

And beyond this story, with this information the color of the benches, and even of some of the exhibited works, makes sense, since the background of all this is the importance of understanding that beyond our differences, we all have the same rights.

Este centro cultural ubicado en Lanús este, provincia de Buenos Aires, llamado Leonardo Fabio en honor al cantante y cineasta argentino ya fallecido, es una joya en medio de la selva de concreto. De hecho, lo conseguí por casualidad cuando buscaba opciones para visitar en esta ciudad a la que voy con cierta frecuencia, pero nunca lo había visto, ya que está en una calle transversal y por ello se logra divisar a primera vista.

Pero una vez que lo ubicas, es difícil no verlo, ya que resalta por su estructura beige y celeste, que te invita así sea por curiosidad a entrar.

Internamente está dividido en 6 salas de exposición, cada una pintada de un color diferente, haciendo del recorrido una actividad sensorial visual extraordinaria, sobre todo porque no opaca las obras expuestas, pero te condiciona para lo que verás en cada una de ellas.

Inaugurado en el año 2014, ha sido un espacio para que los artistas locales tengan un espacio donde poder mostrar sus creaciones. Actualmente, toda la galería presenta la obra de Carlos Pérez Turco, Retrospectiva, que reúne varias de sus piezas realizadas entre 1954 y 2024.

Sus grandes ventanales ayuda a que la luz natural entre directamente, aunque la iluminación interna contribuye a resaltar las obras sin generar el daño de una exposición directa.

En sus zonas adyacentes se encuentra también un parque infantil y muchas bancas pintadas con los colores de la bandera wiphala, de lo cual interpreto es una invitación al inconsciente para que cualquiera, sin distinción, disfrute de sus instalaciones.

Al fondo, además de un pequeño kiosko, se puede ver un espacio amplio que pudiera funcionar como sala de concierto al aire libre o para realizar actividades recreativas sin tener que cerrar la calle o exponerse a algún otro tipo de peligro.

Un aspecto extra que me gustó fue el usar las tecnologías actuales para llamar a la comunidad a que disfruten de este espacio, informando a través de redes sociales sobre sus actividades continuas.

Cuando ya me disponía a irme, encuentro un espacio realizado en homenaje a Martín Castellucci, de quien no tenía conocimiento hasta que al llegar a casa lo gogleé, quedando muy triste por su historia, ya que fue asesinado a golpes por no aceptar que un amigo fuera excluido de entrar en un local nocturno.

Y más allá de esta historia, con estos datos cobra sentido el color de las bancas, e inclusive de algunas de las obras expuestas, ya que el trasfondo de todo esto es la importancia de entender que más allá de nuestras diferencias, todos tenemos los mismos derechos.
