☃️ Let’s explore the BEAUTIFUL highlights of UMEÅ CITY ~ SWEDEN 🇸🇪

Let’s explore UMEÅ CITY with me, when the snow is finally melting on a sunny ☀️ winters day in APRIL. Today I show you the HIGHLIGHTS of this beautiful city, some of its #ARCHITECTURE, #ART, WALKING PATHS and yes… A LARGE WIDE RIVER again. We find all this ~ in UMEÅ, Västerbotten County, SWEDEN. 🇸🇪 So come along and enjoy the views 😊

Let’s start walking around the city. 😊

We are wandering over the main shopping street of the city and reach this wonderful #ARTWORK. It is from the artist “Stig Lindberg“ titled: Fontänskulptur. He created it in 1976 and made it out of copper. It is located in the square: Renmarkstorget. Source!

Wandering further we see the town hall. In front of it on the large square there is this large #sculpture standing high up above us. Its metallic colour stands out soooo much against the bright blue sky. Not sure if I like it 🤓
The #artist is ”Camilla Akraka” title of this work: Listen !
She created it in 2019. Source!

Shall we have a view at the town hall now. The building is very large and build out of brick 🧱

We walked around it and on the other side we see this wonderful view.

The view to the left is towards the large river, behind the trees. The paths are clear (no snow ❄️) only the parks and grass areas have still a snow layer on top of them. We are so enjoying the bright sun ☀️ A perfect day to wander around the city.

Next to us we see more statues and beautiful architecture around us.

As we have wandered this far out of the city’s centre / shopping area now we walk further to the river to check it out. On a viewing platform we look to the left. The river is still covered in a thick layer of ice 🧊 and snow ❄️
Like the river in Skellefteå I showed you a few times now. This river in Umeå is also very very wide.

It has a park next to it one can wander through and a long path you can follow for a long time…

Looking to the right, still standing on the viewing platform that is out into the river a bit we see this view. The architecture of the large white building is beautiful 🤩 it dominates the view.

We look closer across the water… the river. A long bridge is going over it.

As we wander back to the path almost off the platform I zoom in a bit… we see the ice sheets and the buildings in the background.

The view straight ahead before we leave the platform. See the #castle like tower.

People are enjoying themselves on the benches along the rivers front. 2 #seagulls (if you find them 😉) blocking out most of them hahaha 🤣

We walk through the park along the river towards the left. This dark red building with the copper roof is stunning 🤩 the bright blue sky and the white from the snow ❄️ makes it stand out even more.

In the park we see this construction. We see benches like swings dangling in the wind.

A view a bit further away. The round coloured glass openings in its roof are interesting.

As we continue our walk along the river we see this very PINK 🩷 statue. Very interesting forms.

Shall we walk on 😊 we see a large church on the left. It is higher up a hill and must have a beautiful view over the river.

The architecture around us is very beautiful, we are enjoying the views for sure. We see a lot of towers.

We have walked for a while now and we reach the art #university area.

A boat and a floating building next to us. Stuck in the layers of ice 🧊

In front of this first large building we see a beautiful statue… that is rather unique. It is created by the artist ”Jaume Plensa” and her name is JULIA, this work is from 2017. His website we find here: Jaume Plensa

Check out how this work changes… the head of Julia. When we walk by slowly 🤓

Zooming out a bit more. The architecture of this large building is stunning too.

See… it changes.

From the front it is very thin and not a full head like you would have expected.

From the other side we see it like this as we walked past it now.

More stunning architecture… the next building we see is this large one.

The path we are following is part of the WALKING TRAIL. The little sign 🪧 up there shows its name. THE TAVELSJÖ-LEDEN.

With a cute dinosaur 🦕 on it.

Now it gets exciting… my favourite highlight of the day. 🤩 Do you spot it?

A #GIANT #CLOTHESPIN holding up the grass and ground 😳

We walk slowly by and take in the views of this #AWESOME #ARTWORK.

This large artwork is from the artist ”Mehmet Ali Uysal” the title is Skin 4 - In Swedish the people say “Klädnypan” (clothespin) Source!
You find the artist’s website here: Mehmet Ali Uysal. Have a look around on his site as there are some interesting artworks to be found.

I can’t help it and walk around this cool 😎 work. The snow and trees give it even a more special appearance.

What do you think of this work?
I like it a lot. It is soooo HUGE. You could walk underneath it or even cycle through it as there is a path. Just not now with the melting snow hahaha 🤣

We walk a little bit further along the path as the sun is sooooo nice after such a long dark winter.
