Touring a historic site loaded with symbolism [eng/spa]

Near Havana's Malecon it is possible to find many interesting places,and today I would like to share a historic site that, in my opinion, is worth a visit during a stroll through the city, especially if you are a lover of spaces full of symbolism and history.
I am talking about the monument dedicated to the fallen sailors of the Second World War. This work is located on O'Reilly Street, on one side of the Royal Force Castle; so you can combine the visit to both places. You can also visit other places of tourist interest nearby, since Old Havana is the historic center of the city.
This work that I show you belongs to a Cuban artist, and for my pride, also from Camagüey, called Arnold F. Serrú Hidalgo. The materials that predominate in the set are stone and bronze.

Cerca del Malecón habanero es posible encontrar muchos lugares interesantes, y hoy me gustaría compartir un sitio histórico que, desde mi opinión, merece la pena visitar en los paseos por la ciudad, sobre todo si se es amante de los espacios cargados de simbolismo e historia.
Les hablo del monumento dedicado A los marinos caídos en la segunda guerra mundial. Esta obra está ubicada en la calle O'Reilly, en un lateral del Castillo de la Real Fuerza; así que se puede combinar la visita a ambos lugares. También se pueden conocer otros espacios de interés turístico muy cerca, pues la Habana Vieja guarda el centro histórico de la ciudad.
Esta obra que les muestro, pertenece a un artista cubano, y para mi orgullo, camagüeyano además, llamado Arnold F. Serrú Hidalgo. Los materiales que predominan en el conjunto son la piedra y el bronce.

I confess that in spite of traveling this road frequently, I had never stopped to observe this monument. It was usual for me to see people sitting on the benches in the park, or very early in the morning, to see others raising the Cuban flag on the flagpole that accompanies the monument, with the ceremony that the moment deserves. But today I decided to break the ice, as they say popularly in Cuba, and take some pictures of this excellent obelisk and its surroundings.
I was reading the plaque, and it refers that this work is a tribute of the Rotary Club to the Cuban sailors killed in the line of duty during the Second World War. Witnessing this made me think of all the implications that this great war conflict had on the entire planet, and even that it is incredible to know that it has generated consequences to this day. In this dedication, the Cuban coat of arms, which is one of the national symbols, can be seen at the top.

Les confieso que a pesar de recorrer este camino con frecuencia, nunca me había detenido a observar este monumento. Era usual para mí ver personas sentadas en los bancos que se encuentran en su parque, o muy temprano en la mañana, ver a otras izando la bandera cubana en el asta que acompaña el conjunto, con la ceremonia que el momento amerita. Pero hoy decidí romper el hielo, como se dice popularmente en Cuba, y captar algunas fotos de este excelente obelisco y sus alrededores.
Estuve leyendo la tarja, y refiere que esta obra es un homenaje del Club Rotario a los marinos cubanos muertos en el cumplimiento del deber durante la segunda guerra mundial. Presenciar esto me hizo pensar en todas las implicaciones que tuvo este gran conflicto bélico en todo el planeta, e incluso que es increíble conocer que ha generado consecuencias hasta nuestros días. En esta dedicatoria, se observa en su parte superior el escudo de Cuba, que constituye uno de los símbolos nacionales.

During my visit to this monument, I was talking with the security agent of one of the nearest sentry boxes, a very kind man who told me that in this place there have been very emotional tribute activities carried out by the people and descendants of the fallen.
If you look at the front of the monument, you can see the figure of the helmsman of a ship, who from my perception, struggles to control his ship in the middle of the storm; and below him, the figure of two lifeless men in the middle of the waters. One of the most symbolic elements is the fact that the name of the 78 Cuban merchant sailors and 3 American sailors who fell in the maneuvers, victims of the Nazi submarines, is on the plaque. How many names of brave men can be read there.
On the other side, on the back, the figure of a woman can be seen, who seems to have wings on her back.

En mi visita a este monumento, estuve conversando con el agente de seguridad de una de las garitas más cercanas, un señor muy amable que me comentó que en ese lugar se han realizado actividades de homenaje muy emotivas protagonizadas por el pueblo y por descendientes de los caídos.
Si se observa el monumento por su parte delantera, se aprecia la figura del timonel de un barco, que desde mi percepción, lucha por controlar su nave en medio de la tormenta; y debajo de él, la figura de dos hombres sin vida en medio de las aguas. Uno de los elementos más simbólicos es el hecho de que en la tarja se encuentra el nombre de los 78 marinos mercantes cubanos y 3 marinos americanos, caídos en las maniobras, víctimas de los submarinos nazis. Cuántos nombres de hombres valerosos se pueden leer allí.
Por el otro lado, en su parte trasera se percibe la figura de una mujer, que parece tener alas en su espalda.

Undoubtedly, the monument to the fallen sailors of the Second World War is a historical place, ideal for those who love everything that people have lived through.

Sin dudas, el monumento A los marinos caídos en la segunda guerra mundial, es un lugar histórico, ideal para los amantes de todo lo que han vivido los pueblos.
