The wandering monk from Cloughballybeg, the patron saint for sufferers of rheumatism.
The catholic Würzburg Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Kilian a wandering Irish Monk born in the 7th century in Cloughballybeg, Ireland.
It is the fourth largest Romanesque church building in Germany over 100 yds in length, supposedly built on the site where our irish monk had his head lopped off. His skull apparently is still housed above the altar.
See it seems, Kilian was a bit of an interfering busy body god botherer, who told the ruling Duke that he was a very naughty boy, who by marrying his dead brothers widow, Geilana, he was in violation of the rules in the scripture.
When this reached Geilana's ears, well , she was very, very, angry and after spitting out her dummy and throwing all her toys out of the pram had her soldiers sent to the main square where Kilian and his mates were preaching, and had him beheaded....... along with two of his unfortunate companions.
That's a bit harsh.
Moral of the story? Don't stick your nose in where it is not wanted.
To say inside was very white is an understatement, it looks like it has recently had a fresh coating of Dulux.
"I'm not playing anymore. It's my ball and I am taking it home"
"Ok, Ok, JC, you wern't offside the goal stands."

Big is best right? built in 1968 during the post bombing rebuild and renovation by the Klais company, it is said to be one of the most significant large organs of its period.
Always said big is best.

I will not comment on the topic of big or not haha, but that big organ is really awesome 👌
Thought you might have been attracted to it!!! LOL
You will definitely enjoy this place, thank you.
No probs
I am also catholic and i am really amazed by the every churches own beauty. This holy place really heals our soul and amazes our eyes.
Cheers
Grandeur found in churches where little is spared to restore. Modern stain glass windows a refreshing touch from older taste of most cathedrals.
Awesome photographic visit.
Cheers @joanstewart , yes the glass windows were modern and impressive, too good for a church!!
Would be great to have windows like that in a home throwing lighting across a floor to break the featureless panes used.
I need to build a bigger house LOL
Big house more upkeep, forget it! 🙃
good point well made LOL
What a wild story about Saint Kilian, @grindle! That's quite a dramatic tale for a cathedral's dedication ✨ It's fascinating how much history and character can be found in these old buildings, even with modern renovations 💖 That large organ sounds impressive too! 🙌
cheers @wanderelle , spot on
The church building is very beautiful and has very cool architecture, the beauty inside is also very enchanting, I really like it ❤️
cheers @suarlex , spot on
Am not so sure Nicola would be impressed by a little organ!
Religious preachers sticking their nose in, well they never learn...
two good points well made!!
They had such talent and skill back then.. what happened? Are there any current architects with this type of talent in 2025?
Must be some somewhere
I remember living through that time...silence was best. I had a hole in the garden at home, and whenever I felt the urge to share an opinion, that’s where I’d shout it. 🤣 When it comes to organs, maybe what they say is true ;)
and you lived to tell the tale!
