I have already written about the Palais Rohan, which houses several museums. I have already told you about the Art Museum.
Today it's the turn of the Archaeological Museum and the Art Decoration Museum, which are also in the Palais Rohan.

Archaeological Museum

This museum was founded in the 18th century. It is the oldest museum in Strasbourg.

It presents exhibits from the origins of Strasbourg and Alsace up to the Middle Ages.

Stones and fossilised bones are displayed in this showcase.

The Romans were probably also here very early. Here is a replica of a Roman warrior.

It reminds me of something. Oh yes, we also have armour like this at our reception. Ours looks a bit older though, to be honest.

You can find something like that in almost all archaeological museums. In the Stone Age, people were hunters and gatherers.

This is probably another find from Roman times.

Here is a replica of a dwelling from times gone by.

The skulls made me think of coneheads. Did the Strasbourgers already have a helmet built into the skull back then? I can't remember seeing skulls that long anywhere.

The museum is housed in the vaulted cellar of the palace. The vault provides real flair for archaeology I think.

You can find such things almost everywhere. Even in Augsburg there are lots of these things.

Such a tomb with skeletons should not be missing in any archaeological museum. You can find them everywhere in Augsburg. Sometimes right in the middle of the Gesteigen.

Art Decoration

The museum Art Dekoration is one floor above. What surprised me a bit was the fact that you pay for each museum separately. I think it's 8 euros. With four museums in the Palais, that would be 32 euros. But we had a three-day ticket for all Strasbourg museums for 20 euros. That's worth it.

This museum is more about decorations from the early Middle Ages to modern times.

As soon as you enter, there are many plaster feet in the middle of the room in an old baroque hall. Surely there is room for interpretation here.

Apart from that, I still know a few things from my childhood. They were old back then, but I still played with them. I'm so old.

In this photo you can see on the wall the cracks that have appeared in the structure over time. I think the Palais will soon be completely renovated. The amount and size of the cracks suggest that the Palais will then probably be shot for a long time. So if you still want to see the whole thing, you should hurry.

Silver decorations were already popular back then and indicated the wealth of the owners. Today I can do without them. They turn black all the time anyway.

Not everyone had something like this as a decoration in their home. But these huge clocks and mechanisms were impressive.

Our King Louis the Second would have had a lot of fun with them. After all, he decorated his palaces along the lines of Versailles.

In any case, the whole thing was very colourful.

Now that's a dining table in a crowded room. I find the whole thing almost overwhelming.

Here, the mixture between modern decorations and old rooms is probably meant.

That's it from the Palais Rohan. It is certainly worth a visit and when it rains in Strasbourg, it is almost a must.

Ich habe ja schon über das Palais Rohan geschrieben, das mehrere Museen beherbergt. Vom Kunstmuseum habe ich schon erzählt.
Heute ist das Archäologische- und das Art Dekoration Museum, welche auch im Palais Rohan sind, dran.

Archäologisches Museum

Dieses Museum wurde im 18 Jahrhundert gegründet. Es ist das älteste Museum Strasbourgs.

Es präsentiert Ausstellungsstücke aus der Entstehung Strasbourgs und dem Elsass bis hin zum Mittelalter.

Steine und versteinerte Knochen sind in dieser Vitrine dargestellt.

Die Römer waren wohl auch sehr früh hier vor Ort. Hier ist eine Nachbildung eines römischen Kriegers.

Die erinnert mich irgendwie an was. Ach ja, wir haben an unserer Rezeption auch so eine Rüstung. Unsere sieht aber ehrlich gesagt etwas älter aus.

So etwas findet man auch fast in allen archäologischen Museen. Zur Steinzeit waren Menschen ja Jäger und Sammler.

Hier wohl wieder ein Fundstück aus der Zeiten der Römer.

Hier ist eine Nachbildung einer Wohnung aus vergangenen Zeiten.

Bei den Schädeln musste ich an Coneheads denken. Hatten die Strasbourger damals schon einen Helm im Schädel eingebaut? Ich kann mich nicht erinnern irgendwo schon so lange Schädel gesehen zu haben.

Das Museum ist im Kellergewölbe des Palais untergebracht. Das Gewölbe sorgt für richtigen Flair für Archäologie finde ich.

Sowas findet man fast überall. Selbst in Augsburg gibt es diese Dinge zu Hauf.

So ein Grab mit Skeletten darf in keinem archäologischen Museum fehlen. Die sind bei uns in Augsburg auch überall zu finden. Mitunter mitten auf den Gesteigen.

Art Dekoration

Das Museum Art Dekoration ist ein Stockwerk drüber. Was mich schon etwas verwundert hat ist die tatsache, dass man für jedes Museum einzeln Zahlt. Ich glaube 8 Euro. Bei vier Museen im Palais wären das 32 Euro. Wir hatten aber ein Drei Tagesticket für alle Strasbourger Museen für 20 Euro. Das lohnt sich dann schon.

In diesem Museum geht es wohl eher um Dekorationen vom frühen Mittelalter bis hin zur Neuzeit.

Gleich beim betreten stehen in einem alten Barocksaal viele Gipsfüße in der Mitte des Raumes. Sicher gibt es hier Spielraum für Interpretationen.

Ansonsten kenne ich noch ein paar Sachen aus meiner Kindheit. Die waren damals zwar schon alt, aber gespielt habe ich trotzdem damit. Man bin ich alt.

Auf diesem Foto kann man an der Wand die Risse sehen, die im laufe der Zeit im Bauwerk entstanden sind. Ich denke, das Palais wird bald wieder Grundsaniert. Die Menge und Größe der Risse lässt erahnen, dass dann das Palais wohl für längere Zeit geschossen wird. Wer also das ganze noch sehen will, sollte sich beeilen.

Silberdekorationen waren damals ja schon beliebt und zeigten den Wohlstand der Besitzer an. Heute kann ich gut darauf verzichten. Die werden ja eh ständig schwarz.

Sowas hatte wohl nicht jeder als Dekoration in seiner Wohnung stehen. Aber beeindruckend waren diese riesigen Uhren und Mechaniken doch.

Unser König Ludwig der zweite hätte seine wahre Freude daran gehabt. Er hat seine Schlösser ja auch nach dem Vorbild von Versailles Dekoriert.

Auf jeden fall war das ganze sehr farbenfroh.

Das ist mal ein Esstisch in einem vollen Raum. Ich finde das ganze ja schon fast erdrückend.

Hier ist wohl die Mischung zwischen modernen Dekorationen und alten Räumen gemeint.

Das war es dann vom Palais Rohan. Es ist sicher ein besuch wert und wenn es Regnet in Strasbourg, dann ist das fast ein muss.
