Festival (and some more) at Kalemegdan fortress in Belgrade
At the beginning of spring, from April 6 until June 1, the "Belgrade Family Days" event takes place on the upper town of the Belgrade fortress Kalemegdan.
On the wide plateau of the fortress, a large number of citizens gather with their children at that time, especially on weekends, when the weather is nice and sunny.
As this is a festival held in the middle of a medieval fortress, the most appropriate theme, which appeals to children and adults alike, is knights and princesses.
A stage has been set up on which actors and actresses perform their performances, but from that stage you can also hear some interesting information and stories about the life of a medieval man.
Tents were set up, as they were at medieval tournaments, and the games were adapted for small children.
There are various old games, targets for shooting with a bow and arrow, and on some stands there are also replicas of medieval weapons and parts of armor.
Considering that I don't have children, and that I went back and forth between these tents without having to take care of anyone, you can guess which tent attracted my attention the most.
The one with the weapon.
Helmets and swords (two-handed and one-handed, as well as one mace), are the weapons that are represented.
Some of the men (big kids🙂) took pictures with those replicas.
A little further from the tents that were set up for the needs of this festival, I looked for some more interesting things.
I photographed "Sahat Kula (Clock Tower)", and in the immediate vicinity one Turbet, tomb of Damad Ali Pasha, a Turkish military commander from the 18th century.
From the plateau of the upper town there is a fantastic view of the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, as well as the area of the lower town.
The walls, on the remains of which tourists are now sitting enjoying the view of the river, were formerly part of an impregnable fortress, built at the end of the 12th century.
Today, these walls and the fortified upper town with the famous "Pobednik(Victory monument)" monument are just a tourist attraction and a place to enjoy and walk.

Hey @duskobgd you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘
Very nice this place, and I visited it more than two years ago, and I liked it enormously, and now I remember that it was very difficult to find a parking place nearby, eventually I parked the car in a public parking lot and I actually could not pay my parking with the Serbian app, I had no Serbian number, but I met two young men who helped me and paid the parking from their cell phone.
There are so many beautiful places around Belgrade, especially the Sava river and many others, not to forget the food which is excellent.

Thank you very much.
The Kalemagdan Fortress is a really cool site. there are so many interesting places that I, even though I visited it as a kid, still discover something new to this day.
When you come next time, across from the entrance to Kalemegdan, at the end of Knez Mihajlova Street, under the shopping center in Rajiceva, you have a large parking lot. The hour is expensive, but at least you have a place to park.
In recent years, food has "lost" its taste, considering how expensive the prices in restaurants have become, but let me know if you're passing by, so I can give you the name of a restaurant where you still eat quality and not so expensive food.
I liked Belgrade very much but I was also delighted to visit some random villages and to observe the local life, I also did some shopping at a local store (I don't remember the name of the village), here I noticed that some products were more expensive than in Romania, I expected them to be significantly lower than in Romania.
I would visit Serbia more often but unfortunately I have to spend a lot of time in customs, when I visited Belgrade I went through customs at the Portile de Fier( Iron Gates) and I stayed in customs for about two hours in the context that there were up to 50 cars in customs.
Thank you again.
I was at that border crossing only once, halfway through, when we visited the Djerdap hydroelectric plant with an excursion in elementary school.
Nothing should surprise you about the prices. In Serbia, prices are higher (especially when compared to the average salary) than in any European country.
I often visit Timisoara. I wanted to go to Bucharest, but it's a lot further 🙂
So it is with the prices in Romania, they are much higher than the average salary, right now I'm looking for accommodation in Craiova and honestly here accommodation is more expensive than in Dubai, it is indeed the Easter Fair period in Craiova.
But, unfortunately, there is no way to change them, as long as corrupt governments sell our country piece by piece, and we, the slaves who work like this, will remain slaves for the rest of our lives.
I like Timisoara too, just the other day I was there, I visited the Justice Park because there are thousands of tulips in bloom, something dreamy.
Honestly, I personally don't like Bucharest, it's too crowded, people are uncivilized especially in traffic, I've been many times in Bucharest but it doesn't blow my mind.
Smaller towns still have a soul. No crowds, much more organized and nicer than the big ones. I looked at the pictures now, I like Craiova If I ever decide to tour Romania beyond Timisoara, I will put it on the tour map, just to choose a time when the accommodation is not more expensive than in Dubai 🙂
👍
Once, quite a long time ago, I was in Kalemegdan at the so-called "Gypsy Wedding"... and I ended up three days later somewhere in Prokuplje... 😵💫
Please vote for the new Ecency Proposal.
Shut up, you were lucky. You could have woken up married there 🙂
Haha, that's true :)
It's a very interesting festival I wish I could let my teens experience too. With the nice weather on an occassion like this, to cherish medieval time is a good time to bond with family and friends. Your place is indeed lovely😍
I believe that your teenagers would not stay long at the festival. Rather, like me, they would go into research. If I tell you that there are guided tours, below the surface of the fortress, what do you think, how many interesting things can be seen there for us, who are not children 🙂
