A Visit to "Libertad" Palace, Former Kirchner Cultural Center.

IMG_20250402_153535366_HDR.jpg

It has been a long time since I had entered this cultural center, I have actually visited it a couple of times when I arrived in Buenos Aires more than 8 years ago, two days ago we were walking around here and decided to spend a few minutes to go inside and admire the interior of the building and see if there were any recreational activities that we could take advantage of. With the new government it was renamed from Centro Cultural Kirchner to Palacio Libertad. A very popular and emblematic Beaux Arts style building located in the neighborhood of San Nicolas.

It is also popularly known for having been the post office and telecommunications palace. The design was inspired by the New York post office and was built in the late 1880s to be inaugurated in 1928 for post office use, then it was remodeled and reopened in 2015 as a cultural center, currently remains so although with a new name.

The building has 8 floors and 60 meters high, an area of just over 88,000 m² and was declared a national historic monument in 1997.

In terms of architecture and antiquity it is worth admiring and appreciating each of its spaces and corners but also from a photographic point of view, if you want to compose images with symmetries, lines and lots of contrast taking into account the natural light that enters through the windows, it is also a very good option.

I think it is one of the best preserved buildings in the city and maintains its vintage essence without so many modifications that pretend to modernize.

In the photo above ☝🏻 you can see a gigantic structure in the shape of a whale, it is called a blue whale and it is an acoustic hall, events, national orchestras and shows of this type are presented there, the palace is well known for this, besides. I think we were on the fourth floor when I took that picture. The cubes on the ceiling I think are decorative with lots of light, although I thought I saw a door with a "no trespassing" sign. It is possible that there is access to this part of the cultural center.

Meanwhile I was also taking in the interior and design of the building, old elevators and hallways.

There are many activities for children, exhibitions of modern art, painting and much more. No doubt this is a good place to meet and do some of these activities. If you come to Buenos Aires I would recommend you to visit it.

I hope you enjoyed this tour, the place, the information and the pictures. Have a nice weekend :)

Your photos beautifully capture the grandeur of the palace! I love how you highlighted the architectural details and the history behind it. Do you have a favorite spot inside the building for photography?

The whole building is great, I think I don't have a favorite place in the building to take photos, there is too much to do there. Thank you very much for passing and leaving your good comment about it :)

Hola Dimas.

Undoubtedly this palace is well preserved, plus that interesting mix with certain modern elements makes it perfect.
