Reseña Turística: Parque Loefling, el corazón de Ciudad Guayana [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Worldmappin community! Today I'm joining you to share a new tourist review. This time, we'll be talking about "Loefling Park," also known as "Loefling Zoo," located in Guayana City, Bolívar. This park is made up of a large expanse of forests and rivers that border La Llovizna Park. It's home to a great diversity of fauna and flora, which is precisely what made it so attractive. Here's all about it.
It is known that the park's name honors Pehr Löfling, a Swedish naturalist who conducted several scientific research projects in the Orinoco region. He also died there during his research. Löfling's records revealed a variety of species native to Guayana (and never before seen in the world), leaving behind an important legacy for the conservation and preservation of these areas and their species. His life remains relevant to Bolívar's history. Later, due to the construction of the Guri Dam, many animals were relocated to this area (the current Loefling Park) with the intention of protecting them. This led to the creation of the Loefling Zoo, where several wild animals were kept in captivity while others remained free on the premises.

En esta oportunidad estaremos hablando del "Parque Loefling" también conocido cómo "Zoológico Loefling", ubicado en la Ciudad de Guayana, Bolívar. Este parque está compuesto por una gran extensión de bosques y ríos que delimitan con el Parque La Llovizna. En él habitan una gran diversidad de fauna y flora, por lo que es ese precisamente eso lo que lo volvió atractivo. Aquí te cuento todo al respecto.
Se sabe que el nombre del parque es en honor a Pehr Löfling, naturalista sueco que realizó varios trabajos de investigación científica en la región del Orinoco. Lugar donde también halló la muerte durante sus labores investigativas. Los registros por parte de Löfling, reconocieron una variedad de especies autóctonas de Guayana (y nunca antes vistas en el mundo), dejando para siempre un legado importante para la conservación y preservación de estas zonas y sus especies. Aún su persona sigue siendo relevante para la historia de Bolivar. Más adelante, debido a la creación de la represa del Guri, muchos animales fueron trasladados a esta zona (el actual parque Loefling) con intención de ponerlos a salvo. Gracias a ello surgió el Zoológico Loefling, dónde varios animales silvestre se mantuvieron en cautiverio y otros más permanecían libres en el lugar.
Perhaps some, at this point in history, might think that a zoo is inhumane and unkind to animals, but zoos precisely serve the purpose of safeguarding their lives. Hence, they serve as research, conservation, and reintroduction of wild animals. Some animals that arrive at zoos do so through rescues (through animal trafficking, for example). They are quarantined, and an assessment is made of whether they can live on their own or should remain there. The Loefling Zoo enjoyed a long period of well-being, but for unknown reasons (which I prefer not to speculate), it ceased to operate, now serving simply as a park. You can still find some animals around the area.
During my visit, I was able to see a beautiful variety of trees, from samans, apamates, mahogany, and even oaks. If you're patient and observant enough, you'll likely encounter some rather curious insects and animals. The river makes the path through the park even better. To my surprise, I thought the Loefling would be a bit lonely because, as a matter of taste, I imagined people would visit La Llovizna much more often, but that's not really the case, as I saw many children and adults there. It makes perfect sense, since the Loefling is quite large and ideal for exercise and hiking. I find this fact relevant because it reflects that people in Bolívar quite enjoy their spaces and make use of them, unlike in the city. Finally, the Loefling is a bit more exotic than La Llovizna and is worth a visit. Without further ado, thank you so much for stopping by.
Quizás algunos, al llegar a este punto de la historia, puedan pensar que un zoológico es algo poco humano y nada amable con los animales, pero precisamente los zoológicos cumplen la función de salvaguardar sus vidas. De ahí que sirvan para la investigación, conservación y reinserción de los animales silvestres. Algunos animales que llegan a los zoológicos lo hacen por medio de rescates (por tráfico de animales, por ejemplo), se someten a cuarentena y se evalúa si pueden vivir por sus cuentas o deben permanecer en el lugar. El Zoológico Loefling gozó por mucho tiempo de bienestar, pero por razones desconocidas (que prefiero no suponer) dejó de funcionar, sirviendo ahora simplemente cómo un parque. Todavía se pueden encontrar algunos animales alrededor de la zona.
Durante mi visita, pude contemplar una preciosa variedad de árboles desde samanes, apamates, caobas y hasta robles. Si eres lo suficientemente paciente y observador es probable que te puedas encontrar con algunos insectos y animales bastante curiosos. Ademas de las presencia del río que hace el recorrido por el parque sea aún mejor. Para mi sorpresa, pensé que el Loefling estaría un poco solo porque en cuestión de gustos, imaginaba que las personas visitaban mucho más la Llovizna, pero realmente no es así, pues vi muchos niños y adultos presentes en el lugar. Tiene todo el sentido pues el Loefling es bastante grande y es ideal para hacer ejercicio y senderismo. Ese hecho me parece relevante pues refleja que la gente en Bolívar disfruta bastante de sus espacios y les da uso. A diferencia de cómo podría ser en la ciudad. Finalmente, el Loefling es un poco más exótico que la Llovizna y merece ser visitado. Sin más que decir, muchísimas gracias por pasar por aquí.

That's a very beautiful and safe haven for animals, especially for the endangered species that need to be taken care of and protected. I love going to places like this, places that are closest to nature. 🙂
