I've arrived in Thailand: beauty and challenges

Dear friends, I have so much to tell you. I have accumulated a lot of material that I hope to share and not end up deleting from my phone. Not only about Thailand, but also posts about Argentina, Chile, and even Spain.

Right now, I think what I should share with you is more about the here and now, because the emotion I can convey in these words today is hard to compare with those of the future, when I will have to try to relive those emotions.

There will be a bit of a delay, though, as I don't want to share everything in real time, but it's the normal delay of the journey itself.

The photos you see are of the town of Ao Nang, at one end of the province of Krabi. It is a tourist town, with too many Western visitors, so many that even many businesses have adapted their names. That made me a little dizzy, as it makes me think about the reach of Western culture in this globalized and rather predatory world.

As long as the East maintains its traditions, everything will be wonderful.

He llegado a Tailandia: belleza y desafíos

The passport and the change of plans

My arrival in Thailand was not what I expected, as I had traveled there to do volunteer work and at the place where I was supposed to teach yoga, not only did they start asking me to do different tasks on the very first day, but when the other volunteer arrived, they told us that we had to give them our passports, which they would keep in a safe for the month we were supposed to be there.

When we refused, they locked us in a room decorated with yoga items where there was a table, and they told me they didn't like my energy. I asked them why, and they said it was because I didn't want to give them my passport.

Then they added the option of paying a deposit of more than $60, but since that wasn't in the volunteer contract, we said no.

We got scared and left the place, literally running away when the entrance was clear.
At that moment, a whole month of planning fell apart in front of me, as I had planned to be there for the entire month of December.

Never let anyone hold your passport because not only can you not leave that country, but you can't even go to a hotel without your international documentation.

We took a kind of taxi through the Grab app, which is like Cabify, and settled into a hostel about 10-15 minutes by car from where this had happened. The situation quickly made me feel scared and somewhat paranoid, compounded by a series of stories about kidnappings in Thailand, so I started planning my departure from that city.

However, during the days I was there, I walked those streets, ate some traditional Thai dishes, had a Thai massage that cost me less than $10 for an hour, and even went on an excursion with the other volunteer (I'll tell you about that trip later).

In addition to these wonderful experiences, when we got out of the taxi, we both felt a sense of liberation.

The small coastal town that attracts the world

Filled with tourists from Canada, the United States, and Northern Europe, this town offers beautiful beaches surrounded by large rock formations and mountains.

Its coastline offers a promenade long enough for long walks, and facing the sea you can see a good number of restaurants, and even the occasional clothing, accessory, and shoe store, although there is also a street dedicated to this.

In Thailand, smoking marijuana is legal, so Krabi has a good number of cafes focused on the consumption of this plant. Most of them have reggae music and people are really quite relaxed.

Towards the end of Ao Nang Beach, you will find a predominance of resorts and restaurants that are more upscale, so to speak, or further away from the crowds in the center. In addition, this area offers live music and a more refined atmosphere, with spacious areas and tables arranged for enjoying the show and the restaurant or hotel.

The world of yoga is so full of scammers, especially when it comes to karma yoga. I got first hand experience with that.

Hope you are ok and just wanted to say that you look great. Good luck!

Thank you!!

Yes… it’s actually the second time something very bad arrived from the “holy” Yoga world. In a bit disappointed, but well… guess it’s just people looking for victims in different religious practices.

Thanks a lot for your comment and wishes!

I would love to take a walk along the shore in the moonlight. I'm currently experiencing winter, but the photos made me feel like it was summer. The photos are great, well done.
