🕷️🐞 Lady....Spiders! 🐞🕷️

This is something cool I encountered today while taking a walk in a nearby park. And it's also a relatively rare sight, this is only the third time time in my life span to have witnessed it!

You may know ladybugs... But have you ever seen a ladybug spider? 😄🙃

What you see above is a male spider of the Eresus genus. Dunno the exact species, maybe Eresus kollari or Eresus sandaliatus. They both look very similar 😄

The species is sexual dimorphic, with females being completely black or brown.

Although these spiders are really common, spotting a male in real life is a really rare sight.

That's because they spent most of their life underground, only coming on the surface for a few days once a year sometime in Spring to mate!

I still remember the first time I saw one about 15 years ago! I had never heard of the species before and I thought I had stumbled upon some super rare or possibly unknown species, lmao 😂

Now, what made today's encounter super special is that soon after noticing this spider I saw that a male competitor was in close proximity! T

And it wasn't long before the two had a stand off..

No blood was shed though and they both retreated after a while. Maybe they greeted each other? Or both chickened out.

Who knows 😄

Anyways, it was a fun sighting. Unfortunately I only had my cheap back up phone with me (moto g24) and the photos didn't come as good as I'd like. Still I think it pulled a decent job :)

Anyways, here's a link to wiki if you'd like to read more on these spiders, enjoy!

It looks cool even though I don’t like spiders. It’s even cooler that you saw two of them at once. That’s even rarer.

I've never seen those spiders here, I guess those probably have a hurting bite

There are similar species of the same genus all over the world :)

I had never heard of that spider, let alone that there was one that looked like a ladybug haha. It looks too curious, and even crazier that you just saw two of them fighting.

Oh my! I've never heard of this spider let alone imagined that it existed.
I'll have to show this to my younger sister so she knows the origin of her MIRACULOUS LADYBUG show.

A wonderful and very rare experience
Seeing a male Eresus spider with such bright colors and having the chance to watch a facing between two of them is truly special.

Whaaat!! I didn’t even know these existed! I would’ve just walked past thinking it’s a funky ladybug lol. The close-up shots are actually really nice, especially considering you used a backup phone

I didn't know such spiders existed, but I think the pictures are good enough. We can see the confrontation and its too bad nothing happened.

Maybe they greeted each other? Or both chickened out. Hahahaha, at least no blood was spilled.
Nice seeing the species, surprised the male choose to stay hidden. Fortunate to see two at a time.

Those are really cool looking spiders! Not only did you find one but two, that is awesome! They look like they are related to tarantulas, pictures came out great even though you had the backup phone. Great job!

Phone definitely did a decent job! These are cute, but they look dangerous--red color. Are they? Or is that color meant to discourage predators?

Love the bloodless standoff :)

My guess, its probably to appeal to the other sex...after all most spiders are poisonous. That and females are colorless 😄
