π§ Gadget Makes Food Salty Without Salt π§
Ok, this is the craziest, weirdest and most amazing gadget I have seen in a while!
So, there's this Japanese brand called Kirin that recently developed an electric spoon that makes food taste salty...without adding salt!
And it works in a really cool way. The spoon transmits a weak electric field that concentrates sodium ions on the tongue which in turn enhances the perceived saltiness. Or something like that. Dunno the exact science.
The electric salt spoon was co-developed with Meiji University professor Homei Miyashita, who first demonstrated the taste-enhancing effect of the technology with prototype electric chopsticks.
The main selling point of course is that it can help consumers curb down their sodium intake. The company believes the product is especially useful in the Japanese market where the average adult consumers over the double of the daily recommended amount of salt WHO recommends:
"Japan has a food culture that tends to favour salty flavours. Japanese people as a whole need to reduce the amount of salt intake but it can be difficult to move away from what we're used to eating. That's what led us to develop this electric spoon." said Ai Sato, researcher of Kiri
Here are a couple videos on the product
Dunno if this thing actually catches on or not, but I think we can agree it's really cool and unique idea :)
The price at about 130$ doesn't help much though but at least it comes with a rechargeable battery π
All in all. A fun gadget. I'd love to give it a try out of curiosity!

This electric salt spoon should be sold way too quick
At my own family, mom had reduced sodium intake cuz of health concerns.
But most of us like more salt, same like Japanese food culture, people in Asian countries usually prefer food that way
Only if the price was reasonable I'd have ordered right away. Too pricey... I'll stick to dipping more salt in my food with my normal spoon !LOL

Haha, it would have to be plugged into the wall socket to register on the salt-lovers here in the Southern U.S.
We seem to like a little food with our salt!

Pretty cool gadget, and the science makes sense. What happens when it malfunctions and electrocutes your tongue though?

Lol that would be good tough, salt is abused a lot so we eat too much of it
But the price meh and I wonder if it won't damage the tongue
It's a fun gadget to have but I don't think it's worth the cost. Then again, I guess it could help for those that have issues where taking too much sodium could be bad for them.
did you use your Jizz? There's an actual book. Cooking with
Lmao , I wrote it π
lmaooooo I would 100% believe that. What's your fav recipe?
That s a cool gadget my wife would probably like she adds salt to her food all the time, I myself as weird as it seems ot most of my family never add salt

hmmmmmm, new tech is so awesome! βοΈπ
now they need one for diabetics.. to taste sweet.
I'd buy one of those ππ
A very interesting concept!
I've been encouraging my own family to gradually lower the amount of salt we use in our foods, thus simply getting used to a less salty flavor. This is probably a more naturalistic approach, given the fact that not all salted foods can be eaten with such a spoon.
If there are studies on this spoon in the future showing that it does, indeed, reduce salt consumption and results in decreased levels of hypertension, I'll be inclined to purchase one for all of my patients lol!
You a doctor?
I sure hope so, otherwise I've been grievously lied to
