Dia de LaCruz De Mayo, en Venezuela// [ESP-ENG]

Amigos de HiveArgentina, en vista de que hoy 3 de mayo se conmemora el Día de La Santa Cruz, Quise contarles un poco acerca de las costumbres y tradiciones que en Venezuela se realizan. Solo algunas, para no extenderme tanto. Espero les guste, y me cuenten si acá en este país, lo festejan también y de qué manera, por tratarse de la religión católica.

Hoy, al abrir los ojos, y ver el almanaque, me transporté a mi pueblo, como se dice coloquialmente. En Venezuela, tal día como hoy, 3 de mayo, en cada región, se celebra, digo celebra porque aunque se trata de la Cruz donde fue crucificado Jesucristo, en mi país, hacemos homenaje a la Cruz de Mayo, con muestras de devoción y fe.
Como es conocido por todos, según la iglesia católica, la Cruz fue encontrada por Santa Elena, madre del emperador Constantino, un 3 de mayo. Por lo cual, en muchos países se festeja este hallazgo, de acuerdo a sus costumbres.
En Venezuela, se celebra mediante diferentes fiestas, de acuerdo a la región donde estemos. Las fiestas de la Cruz de Mayo, son llamados Velorios. Y la razón es que los pueblos organizan veladas con oraciones, cantos, bailes, etc.
Entre tantas costumbres y tradiciones, tenemos como actividad primordial el vestir a la cruz con muchas flores. Las hay de todos los tamaños y colores. Así como lo hacen en los sectores, barrios y pueblos, también en cada hogar católico, se viste la cruz, con esmero. Esto lo hacía mi madre todos los años. Ella tenía una cruz mediana, como de 40 cm, en el altar de la casa, y junto a mi padre, hacían flores de papel crepé, y la vestían de lo más bella.
En las escuelas, cada año, se hace la representación de un velorio de Cruz de mayo. Los niños ensayan sus canciones, y todo lo que tiene que ver con las décimas y comidas.
En casi todos los estados del país, se hacen los velorios de Cruz. En Barlovento, por ejemplo, que pertenece al Estado Miranda, hacen bailes, cantan fulÍas, recitan décimas, reparten comida y aguardiente, y rezan durante toda la noche. Es todo un acontecimiento. El ambiente que se respira es de fiesta, música, baile, y oración, porque a pesar de que hay bailes y música, la noche pasa con mucho respeto, dedicación y entrega. Yo, en Semana Santa, recibí una crucecita pequeña de madera, en la iglesia de Avellaneda, al terminar la misa. Todos a casa, y a la sala donde se va a realizar el velorio. Todos los vecinos son convocados para esa actividad.
Esta festividad o celebración, siempre la tendré presente, porque es el inicio de la primavera en Venezuela, y con ella llega el frescor del aire de la montaña. La lluvia, los frutos y el interesante clima.
Pude vestir la cruz que les había nombrado antes.

Elaboré unas florecitas, con papel crepé, y me gustó como quedó. Muy sencilla y con ella también represento mi fe en todo lo que tiene que ver con Dios y sus misterios de vida y muerte. La coloqué en mi rinconcito de los milagros y prosperidad.

Friends from HiveArgentina, since today, May 3rd, marks the Day of the Holy Cross, I wanted to tell you a little about the customs and traditions observed in Venezuela. Just a few, so as not to be too long-winded. I hope you like it, and please tell me if you also celebrate it here in this country, and how, since it is a Catholic religion.

Today, when I opened my eyes and looked at the calendar, I was transported back to my hometown, as they say colloquially. In Venezuela, on this day, May 3rd, every region celebrates it. I say celebrate because although it is the Cross where Jesus Christ was crucified, in my country, we honor the Cross of May with displays of devotion and faith.
As is known by all, according to the Catholic Church, the Cross was found by Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, on May 3rd. Therefore, in many countries, this discovery is celebrated according to their customs.
In Venezuela, it is celebrated with different festivals, depending on the region. The celebrations of the Cross of May are called "Velorios" (Wakes). The reason is that the towns organize vigils with prayers, songs, dances, etc.
Among so many customs and traditions, our primary activity is to dress the cross with many flowers. They come in all sizes and colors. Just as they do in the various sectors, neighborhoods, and towns, in every Catholic home, the cross is decorated with care. My mother did this every year. She had a medium-sized cross, about 40 cm long, on the altar in the house, and together with my father, they made crepe paper flowers and decorated it beautifully.
Every year in schools, a performance of a wake for the Cruz de Mayo is held. The children rehearse their songs and everything related to the verses and meals.
In almost every state in the country, wakes for the Cruz are held. In Barlovento, for example, which belongs to the state of Miranda, they dance, sing fulÍas, recite verses, distribute food and liquor, and pray throughout the night. It is quite an event. The atmosphere is one of celebration, music, dancing, and prayer, because despite the dancing and music, the night passes with great respect, dedication, and devotion. During Holy Week, I received a small wooden cross in the Avellaneda church at the end of Mass. Everyone went home and to the room where the wake was to be held. All the neighbors were invited to attend.
I will always remember this holiday or celebration because it marks the beginning of spring in Venezuela, and with it comes the freshness of the mountain air, the rain, the fruits, and the pleasant climate.

I was able to dress the cross I mentioned earlier. I made some little flowers out of crepe paper, and I loved how it turned out. It's very simple, and with it I also represent my faith in everything that has to do with God and his mysteries of life and death. I placed it in my little corner of miracles and prosperity.
