Two years ago, my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday, and I told him I wanted a Barbados cherry tree. He bought me four of them, one I sold. This year I got one cherry. I was afraid an animal would get it before it ripened. I was trying to put a cage around it and knocked the cherry off before it was fully ripe. It looked ripe on one side, but the other side still had a yellow tint to it. I tried to eat it, but it was too bitter. I hope the next time I can get a fully ripe one and it has more meat and less seed than this one had.
I have a huge pecan tree that my mother in law gave me 30 years ago, it was about three foot tall, and yet to eat a nut from it, the squirrels always get them before they get ripe. I tried to put bags around two clusters of them this year, and went out to it one day, and one of the bags was gone. I found it in our driveway. I said something to my daughter about it, and she told me she saw a squirrel running down the driveway with it. Of course, the nuts were gone. A few days later they got the other bag.
Seven years ago, my husband planted a seabean he found on the beach. It turned out to be an Indian almond tree from the Amazon. In the winter, all of the leaves turn red, that is when it becomes a pretty tree. Last year was the first time it had any blooms, and we were excited to get almonds from it, but we had a bad storm, and it knocked all of the blooms off. Maybe we will get some this spring, and maybe the squirrels won't get the nuts.

Between the wildlife and the weather, it's always a challenge to grow plants, no matter where one lives!
This is for sure.
The critters you have as neighbors don’t want you gettin any fruit from your tree. Haha. I would slam them with a law suit to keep off or agree to share once in a while. Lol.
I enjoyed reading this though. The fruit looks good. I hope you get it before your wild neighbors next time :)
So true and the sad part is, we feed them corn and they still take our food.
I am glad you like reading about them.
