My first relationship was my worst, and I have not had a second worst, but the way the last two days have been, this relationship could turn out to be my second worst relationship. (that's just the prompt).
I know my son is messing up, and only comes here when he needs a place to crash and get a full belly. I know why he does this, I do not need to be told. I can not bring myself to tell him he can not have a safe place to sleep and get a full belly, my heart will not let me do it.
I never understood how my Mother could let my sister do the same thing when she was on drugs. I used to get so mad at mom, but now I understand why she did it. You can not understand why a mother would tolerate this, until it is your child. Maybe that is my husband's problem, he is my sons stepfather.
I could only get 3 hours of sleep last night, and just after daylight I left the house. I needed to get away before anyone woke. I did not want to talk to any of them, so I went to the river. I can drive there without getting on a big road.
It was slick, calm, and the waves were rolling in the entire time I was there. It was from the boat traffic in the channel. This with the water being high and the tide going south which made the brown creek water go my way all made fossil hunting difficult.
Before this fisherman showed up, there was a school of bait south of where he is fishing, I know it was a trout I saw strike in them. A trout has it's own sound when it strikes on top, and if you watch, a slick will appear where it struck, and it did.
I saw this in the water and thought I found a big piece of fossilized bone.
I was disappointed when I picked up a piece of rebar.
I like to walked this shoreline to the bridge and back. I used to find arrowheads along here, but I have not found one since the 1990s. I know they used some of the Indian mound material from here to build US1, but they also hauled fill in from other areas and I wonder if the fill with the arrowheads is now in deeper water because of errosion.
I only found a few small pieces of pottery and, one small bone. I also found a few rocks that I liked, and a small sinker. I didn't care if I found much, I just needed a break, and it was so nice.
People say the underside of a catfish skull resembles Jesus on the cross. This was a good time to stop and say a prayer.
The black stuff down the legs is flesh, I was not cleaning it, it stunk!!! And now I see something that looks like a pearl, I forgot they have them inside the skull, when you shake it, it rattles. I don't know what they are called, I call them pearls, but I know that is not correct.
I went home feeling better.

Sometimes we do need to get alone with God and His peaceful creation... but I do understand a little bit. My grandmother was that person to our whole family, and in her succession, here I am. My students have been in and out of prison... but they know there is a hug and a fair listening ear waiting for them when they get back to church, and that I will not let others mistreat them.
God has many prodigal children ... He feeds them and keeps them safer than they would otherwise be in the world ... and sometimes He works through their mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and Sunday School teachers so they know they can come home to Him. I get it. The day will come when, if He so chooses, that He will cut them off ... but that is not our concern. Our concern is to show His love until He manifests His decision. They may well decide to come all the way home, so we walk in hope.

That is such a lovely place to go just for some peace and calm. I know I'd love to live somewhere near that kind of area too. I hope by now that you have caught up with some restful sleep. I agree with him, but I do not have a solution that I can live with.
A mother's love endures forever. That skull looks like a cross in between it too.
I'm glad your early morning walk made you feel better. Sometimes we need to just get away and think our own thoughts. A mother loves her children like no other human can, no matter how old they are or how badly they have messed up. Other people can't understand that. And @deeanndmathews already said all the right things.
