This is my post for #freewriters 2731 prompt familiar face hosted by @mariannewest
Today my daughter and I visited a park that was once an Indian village, it is called the Paulsen Point Midden. It was not a very big area. I told my daughter it was where people lived over 2 thousand years ago. She could not believe they would live so close to the water and I told her for one thing the land was further out into the water but has erroded away. I also told her they had more than one location that they lived.
It looks like they ate the same type of things on this coast as they ate on the east coast. These shells are opened the same way the Ais Indians opened them at home. The Calusa are the indians who lived around Manasota Key and Englewood. I am in Englewood.
I walked the shoreline by the indian mounds and stopped and talked to a lady there. I asked if she was local, and she said yes, so I asked if she ever found sharks teeth here, and she said no, and if I wanted to find them, to go to Manasota Beach. I told her I was there yesterday,y and it was crowded with people looking for them. She told me it was because most of the beaches were still closed after last summer's hurricane.
On our way home I saw a thrift store and wanted to stop at it, my daughter sat in the car. It is not as fun as when I am with my sister, she always goes in with me and I miss her familiar face. We have a joke about upside down pineapples and every time we see one in a thrift store, we turn it upside down. I had to take a picture of this one and sent it to her because I did not turn it, someone here is in on our joke. I did find a size 2 pair of jeans, they are the only pants I have that do not want to fall off of me and they were only 2 dollars. This thrift store was much better on prices than the ones at home.
My daughter was floating in the pool and came inside, saying there was a snake inside the pool enclosure. I went out with my granddaughter and we opened the door so we could herd it out. It wanted to go everywhere except outside so my granddaughter got the pool net and scooped it up and took it outside. It was only a harmless black snake.

Apparently pineapples were a luxury 100 years ago, and then about 50 years ago it allegedly became a symbol for "swingers." Pineapple upside-down cake seems a better reference to me though
Thrift stores here are a bit on the expensive side, but I picked up 3 good shirts for $14 the other day. They were $7 apiece, but 2 were 50% off because of the tag color. Those two were also 100% cotton, so worth it in my opinion.
Yes, since my sister and I found out about what an upside down pineapple meant, it has been our little joke to turn them, but someone beat me to this one.
I do love a good thrift store and was surprised to find one over here that was so cheap. I think 7 a piece is high, even at 50% off I think that is high for a thrift store. I am stuck in the 80s with yard sale and thrift store prices.
A dime 40 years ago is a dollar now. Hooray for inflation! Funny how higher prices hit before higher wages do. It's almost like government orchestrates wealth transfers to the politically-connected through their monetary policy! But that would be a conspiracy theory, and we need to trust our Great Leaders. So no, it's a mystery how that happened.
Trust in our leaders and cheap clothes at thrift stores are things of the past.
Yaiks snake! Good thing you didn't get too scared of it. 😆 thank you for sharing lovely stories from your vacation. The Paulsen Point Midden sounds like a fascinating place to explore. And that's such a lovely beach too. I miss the beach. Enjoy your weekend!

I enjoy seeing the Indian mounds over here and found it fascinating that they ate the same type of shellfish as on the east coast. We leave for home in the morning, as always, time went by too fast.
When you mentioned the word "Park", i was expecting some wonderful photographs from an amusing park. But we found a photo with broken shells!
That's a lucky snake. If it was in my place, we would kill it first!

We have many parks that are for people who want to have picnics, they have tables and grills for cooking, and then there are children's parks with swings and slides.
The shells are from things the Indians ate and where they lived. In our day we would call it our trash pile, it is where they threw all the shells from the things they ate, that is how the mounds came to be.
