I can't relate - 5 Minutes Free write

Tolu was raised in a quiet, small town located in the western region of Nigeria. His upbringing was simple and rooted in traditional community life, far removed from the noise and pace of urban living.

Ade, his longtime friend, on the other hand, was born and brought up in the bustling heart of Lagos, the largest and most vibrant city in the country.Whenever Ade returned to his hometown during the holidays, he would often share stories about city life, the skyscrapers, the busy streets, the nightlife, and the endless flow of people and opportunities. He spoke with excitement, expecting Tolu to match his enthusiasm. However, Tolu's typical response was a quiet, almost resigned, “I can’t relate.”

Their conversations rarely went deep or lasted long. Despite being friends, there was an invisible gap between them, one shaped by vastly different life experiences. Tolu's rural lifestyle made it hard for him to connect with Ade’s urban realities, and vice versa.

Though they cared about each other, it was evident that the differences in their backgrounds, one from a modest small town and the other from Nigeria’s most developed city, created a barrier that neither of them quite knew how to bridge.
