Boys Will Always Be Boys
On the third day of September 2017, John lost his father to the cold hands of death. News of his father's untimely demise travelled with the wind and it did take long for his friends to hear about his grief. John has five particular close friends : Theophilus, Francis, Smart, Peter, and Lawrence all called to check up on him promising to pay him a condolence visit the next week when they will all be available.
The day for the visitation arrived and all five boys hurried over to John's place with the intention of spending the entire day with their friend hoping their presence would at least make him forget his pain even for a minute. The boys found John outside sitting right in front of his house lost in thoughts. They hovered around him not knowing what to say other than sorry "for your loss". After taking his friends inside the house with a stinging awkwardness, Lawrence finally broke the silence with a simple question
" How did he die? "
John responded with a brief story of how his father was coughing uncontrollably and died as they tried rushing him to the hospital.
Theophilus, the clown of the group dropped a surprising remark saying " The man died from excessive smoking".
Everyone started laughing including John himself as it was no secret that his father was a chronic smoker. The jokes did not stop there the boys kept on teasing and narrating funny memories of John's father which cracked everyone up for hours.
John's father was very tall and the boys all called him Iroko . The most ridiculous thing ever said that day was when Theophilus told John that - " it is only with your father that weed can defeat the great Iroko". This one made everyone laugh so hard that even John's mom questioned if everything was ok because people were grieving and all 6 boys were laughing.
The boys finally left for their respective homes after spending over 8 hours with their friend leaving him in a much better state than he was prior to their visit. That very night John called each of the boys thanking them for what they did as he had been unable to smile since his father's death. He begged them to come over as often as possible even telling Theophilus that he was not angry for the things he said about his dad but glad he did not change who he was just to make him feel better. The boys were happy they were able to put a smile on their friend's face and promised to come check up on two days later and this time they were all sleeping over so it was definitely going to be a night of a thousand laughs.
