A picture is worth a thousand words; Tracy’s struggles

Tired and discouraged, Tracy sat on the steps at the garden situated at the back of the classroom. With her face hidden In between her laps supporting her head with her arms. The sun shown on her casting her shadow against the steps.

What do I do now? she sobbed as she thought about the hardship she has been through in the last weeks. She carried along with a bag that housed some of her few belongings wherever she goes. Life has really been difficult for her since the passing sway of her grandmother.

She had been the only child of her father and mother and they had an average family who managed to live within their means and the love they shared amongst them was what had kept them together. All through her growing up, she has never met any members of her extended family except her fathers mother who was her granny.

Their extended family was not in support of her dad marrying her mother from both families. It was only her dad’s mom that gave her support. So they didn’t have any of their family visiting. Her parents loved her so much and would go to any extent to make her life beautiful and give her all she needs.

Sometimes life happens and things don’t always fall into place. Her parents had died in a fatal accident and she had lost both parents at the same time. It was a very difficult moment for her and she had to go live with her granny who was old but loved and took care of her.

She was only a teenager and now granny too is gone. Her health was on decline since the passing away of her son. She had a heart attack probably from all the pains of loosing her son and the daughter In-law. The whole turn of event happened suddenly that she felt her life spirally down the hills. One moment she was all happy and loved and was been taken care of my her parents, the next moment, everything is gone and now she’s left alone.

The weight of life has taken it toll on her, she was tired and helpless from having to be all alone. Here in school, she could hardly concentrate on her studies which she has to shuffle with work after school to be able to take care of herself in her granny’s old cottage house where she lives.

How long does she have to continue like this? Will help ever come?
