The blue above me

Azure below me

I hold my air until my head becomes empty

I admire

I hear the muffled sounds of old life

I forget

The depth spreads its arms before me

Flickering

The blue above me

Azure beneath me

Restless waters toss a white body with blue lips onto the shore.

Eyes wide open

And in them - oceans

All Faces of Water

Water is my favourite element. Unpredictable, it always finds it’s way, pits rock, destroys metal. It is essential to life, but it can wipe out entire cities.

There are those who are panic-stricken by water (I'm not talking about anti-hygiene fans, of course) and those who can't imagine life without going to the beach. Some prefer the tranquillity of a lake, others the liveliness of the ocean. It is an inexhaustible source of metaphors for authors and a curse for those who live in flood plains.

Immersion

The first time I encountered the term immersion was with computer games - when VR goggles started to become a thing. The term is an excellent measure of the quality of games, films, music, art, books etc.
It's not easy to drive narrative and stylistic or special effects in a way that allows the author to sink their claws into the viewer and hold them in check for long. We live in an age of fast news, short mesages, we look at thousands of pictures a day. We read superficially, look for summaries and are in a constant rush. To hold our attention for longer and draw us into an imagined, distant world - is not easy. Our attention is easily distracted and the clock is ticking!

When was the last time you allowed yourself to stretch out on the sofa and immerse yourself in the sounds of music?

Not to work while listening to music, not to knit, not to cook, not to clean, not to run.

To lie back and let the wave consume us. It devours our body, fills and stuns our senses.

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

With excellent music, I get chills. When was the last time you had such chills?
When was the last time you listened to new music that completely surprised you and you couldn't stop listening to one album over and over again?
When was the last time you watched a film that absorbed you to such an extent that when you saw the closing credits you sat in front of the screen for another half hour trying to understand what you had just witnessed?
Is there a painting or a photograph or a sculpture that, when you saw it for the first time, you could not stop looking at for hours and then forget about for a long time?
Have you played a game that so curved your reality that you saw the world in a completely different way afterwards?

About the drawing

I have a new toy! Thanks to my brother's generosity, I switched from a 'wacom intuos pen' to a 'Huion Kamvas 13' . no this is not going to be a review of both these tablets. The time for such a review will come when I have used the new tablet a little longer:) The most important change is that I switched from a tablet without a screen to one with one:D More details soon :)

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

To be fair - I prefer to work with paper and pencil/crayons. I like to break my nails, and get my hands dirty. I like to sharpen my pencils with a knife, and arrange them by softness on the table before I start drawing. I like erasing errors, blowing off the remains of the graphite and watching the drawing take on new dimensions and colours from different angles. So you won't be surprised that even though I bought a Kindle reader about 10 years ago - I've used it maybe twice :D I love paper and more than anything I love old books. Antiquarian bookshops are my favourite places on earth:)

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

But this was supposed to be a chapter about drawing.
I don't like my drawing. I took myself too complicated a scene for the first time playing with a new tool. I don't like to use ready-made stuff, so I treated the tablet like a piece of paper, and just sketched and slowly added colours. I mainly used the 'dry pastel' effect. It's my favourite 'brush' at the moment.
Let me know what you guys think!

Fantastic piece! The intentional distortion is 😙🤌 on point. It really adds to the overall impact of the drawing (painting).

What else will you do with your new tool?! Looking forward to seeing this new chapter of yours : )

I am glad you liked it. If I had the time I would spend another week on it :D

I don't have immediate plans to be fair. My brother took me by surprise really. I was helping him with a little painting and renovation in his house, and that was his 'thank you '. Really happy with it so far, haven't had any software issues or anything so far.

My list of stuff I wanna do is really long, so tablet has to stand in the queue :D

What a perfect gift! You're lucky to have a family member who knows you well and cares so much to give a thoughtful gift in return. That's awesome.

Well, there's no rush on the next one. I'm patient : )

I can't remember I did. I'm always thinking hard, worrying, writing or just simply meditating the depth of life if it's really worth it. Haha

I fear that relaxation triggers my anxiety and guilt. It's not normal. I know. And I don't like music, feels like it just disrupt my thoughts that's more pressing matter.

The lady in the drawing looks so serene and I can only stare at it with envy.😔

Unfortunately - I can relate. I often try to numb and quite my mind with overloading it with information's and other nonsense, so there is less time to actually meaningless thinking. Becouse if I don't - as you mention - anxiety kicks in.

But the thing with real immersions is - that something draws you in so tightly that it leaves you no room to think past what is happening. The created reality becomes your reality for this particular moment. It strips you somewhat of your personality almost. Just for little while you get to be someone or somewhere else. Which in turn - help you not to think, and give you a brake form your sorrows:)

That what water gave me - it quiets my mind :)

I do this very often. I'm one who takes out time to just listen to music without do anything else. Such moments are really relaxing.

You asked when was the last time I saw an art that kept me in awe? I just saw one. This piece is really beautiful Strega.

And I love the poetry at the beginning of this article.

To really appreciate the music it is one of my greatest joy, but sadly - I hardly ever do that. Always in rush, always late :D

Thank you @wongi, so happy you like my new piece. I will be working more on my digital skills, but I really enjoy my time away from screen:) As for poetry, If I may even call it that - I discovered that it took me more time to write those few lines than whole article :D

Coming up with poetic lines that make meaning can be really tough but yours were amazing.

The last time I listened to a music that I found myself totally immersed in, was last weekend. It was a song sang by Simi "stranger" It made me reflect on my love life... I had this music on replay and wasn't tired of listening to the rythm and lyrics of this song.

I never really allow myself to just listen to music whilst relaxing though it sounds like a cool feel but being immersed in a movie is more of a familiar tune.

One so familiar that I wonder what I just watched and trying to find my bearing, sometimes even checking bits of the movie to understand the whole picture is something I have so often done when I encounter a masterpiece of a movie.
I loved this journey through writing you took me through to your artwork.💕

Yeah, I did. I've used old picture form my hard drive, was trying reverse searching to find the source, but without luck. That's the only reason I didn't include it :)

Your drawing is beautiful even though you said you do not like it

When was the last time you listened to new music that completely surprised you and you couldn't stop listening to one album over and over again?

I do this often. Once I get a new music that I like, I put it on replay until I'm able to absorb the lyrics. 😂

Thank you very much!
So this brand is completely new to me. Glad to hear you are happy with it!
I have been using wacom intuos for many years, and he just refuse to die! That's why I haven't even consider buying new one :D
So far, I can confidently say that the pressure tracing is very good, and it is very fast and effortless to use. I will do a full review in a little while, I just need to get to know it a bit more:)

I do like puzzles and logic games:)
Drawing is quite old, and it is more of a collage, but I felt that in the way can work with little bit of entertaining fiction. It is after all - a touch of absurd mixed with everyday life:)
