Splinterlands Art Contest Week 353!(Sarius)
Hey Splinterlands fam!👾
Happy first Sunday of the month guys, really excited to share my newest addition of drawing. This really was worth it.
Sarius is an Epic from the Death team, and it deals Magic damage, which cuts right through armor. I personally love that it has Life Leech, the more it attacks, the more health it gains. In long battles, this saved me more than once!
Sarius stands out not only for its aesthetics but also for its strategic value in battle. Though it may appear fragile at first glance, this card holds hidden potential, especially when used wisely in lower-mana or attrition-style battles.
At higher levels, Sarius also gets Void, so it survives better against enemy magic cards. I usually place it behind my tank, and it just keeps getting stronger each round.
I really think Sarius is worth renting or leveling. And that was one of the things or reasons I found this card cool and wanted to draw it.
Card Type & Stats
Sarius is a rare Death monster typically used in the early to mid ranks of gameplay. And if you have used this card, you would have found out that It costs 5 mana, making it flexible for many rule sets, especially low-mana matches where value per mana point is critical.
At level 1, Sarius has: 2 Speed, 2 Magic Attack, 4 Health (which is pretty cool) and no armor.
But it's very important to note that Sarius's Magic Attack allows it to bypass armor and directly hit an opponent’s health, which makes it effective against front-line tanks and support monsters alike....so incredible right. So even if the card doesn't have its own armor, it manage to pierce through it's enemies armor.
Abilities: Life Leech
Because of this unique ability, every time Sarius deals magic damage, it absorbs a portion of the damage dealt and converts it into extra health for itself. Over time, this makes Sarius increasingly tanky, even though it starts with relatively low HP.
This shows the importance of the card and places it in a unique level than others. This also makes the card a solid choice for prolonged battles, especially in matchups where healing and sustainability are important.
Weaknesses;
Vulnerable to Magic Reflect: Since it deals magic damage, opponents using Magic Reflect can chip away at Sarius. Which can be dangerous in battle.
Low starting health: At 4 HP, it can be sniped or killed early if not protected.
Silent Battles: If the ruleset disables abilities, Life Leech won’t activate, severely limiting Sarius’s usefulness
How to manage or prevent this, is quite simple, build your team to protect Sarius early, so it can scale and thrive.
Final Thoughts
In a way I think Sarius is underrated but it's a powerful card when used with a clear strategy. In the right ruleset and lineup, it can dominate with sustainability and consistent pressure. It rewards smart positioning and synergy with defensive or control-based teams. Though its not a brute-force attacker, its ability to grow stronger over time and ignore armor makes it a solid investment for player, especially for newer players looking to build a resilient Death deck.
As I said before, Sarius is an incredible card, I think that's what made me draw it...i started with a rough sketch using pencil, then layered it with pen and went over the shading with color pencils and markers. It took me about few hours to get the shadows and face just right, I wanted to make sure the eerie vibe of the card came through.
