The Machiavellian Anime: My Opinion on Code Geass

What I Thought:

There are anime you watch and forget. And then there are anime like Code Geass. From the first episode, it's clear you're entering a grand story about war, revenge, and power. The plot throws us into a world dominated by the Britannia Empire, where Japan has been conquered and renamed Area 11. It's in this setting that we meet our protagonist, Lelouch vi Britannia, an exiled prince who gains a mysterious power called Geass.

What makes the story so great is that it is, at its core, a gigantic game of chess. Lelouch's every move (now masked as revolutionary leader Zero) is calculated, and battles are won with both intelligence and giant robots (the Knightmare Frames).

For me, the highlights are undoubtedly the season finales. Code Geass knows how to build a climax. The endings of the first and second seasons are simply spectacular, the kind that leave you speechless, staring at the screen for minutes, trying to process what just happened. It's one of those journeys that, even with a few hiccups, stays with you forever.

Power System:

The anime's power system was mainly Geass and Strategies. Whoever has the best strategy wins, but Geass counts a lot. The system is simple and cool. However, because of this alone, in a one-on-one match, Lelouch would beat 99% of fictional beings (except the blind ones).

My Character Ranking:

1 - Stephanie

Okay, incredible character, her story is excellent, her ideas, everything is impossible not to like. I don't want to say more because of spoilers.

2 - Schneizel

The best antagonist in the series in my opinion, he did everything without Geass, and the script had to force him to be defeated, very tough, even though he's a jerk.

3 - C.C. and Lelouch

Cool characters, I like them a lot, I think C.C. a little more, but they're both very important to the plot, obviously, and their interactions are cool.

Positives and Negatives:

No work is perfect, and it's important to look at both sides of the coin.

*Negatives: The Stone in the Path (SUZAKU)

The main problem I felt with Code Geass was its repetitiveness in the beginning (damn Lancelot). In several episodes of the first half, the structure follows a somewhat predictable "problem of the week" formula, where Lelouch uses his power and intelligence to overcome a military challenge in a similar way. Fortunately, this subsides as the main plot fully picks up.

Besides that, there are some minor plot holes (let's agree, the battle against Schneizel was a rip-off). But beyond that, they're small things (somewhat convenient character decisions or events that happen at the right time) that, when you stop and think about it, don't make 100% sense. But honestly, the narrative is so powerful that you barely notice these details in the heat of the moment.

Positive Points: The Legacy of a Revolution (What a good ending)

Where the anime truly shines is in its boldness. The revolutionary plot, which questions whether the ends justify the means, was a great inspiration for many works that came after. Lelouch is not your average hero; he's a complex antihero, willing to do terrible things for the greater good, and this moral depth is fascinating.

The clever writing, focused on strategy and twists, makes each episode a surprise. The battles aren't just about who has the strongest robot, but about who has the most ingenious plan.

Final Score and Verdict:

After weighing everything, my rating for Code Geass is an 8/10.

Because of that initial repetitiveness and the small plot holes I mentioned (damn Suzaku with Lancelot). They prevent the work from being perfect. However, the anime receives such a high rating because its strengths far outweigh its flaws. The main story, the protagonist's complexity, and, most importantly, its legendary final moments elevate the series, even inspiring other great works like Attack on Titan.

I recommend watching it to pass the time if you're looking for a story with action and strategy.

O Anime Maquiavélico: Minha opinião sobre Code Geass

O Que Eu Achei:

Existem animes que você assiste e esquece. E existem animes como Code Geass. Desde o primeiro episódio, fica claro que você está entrando em uma história grandiosa sobre guerra, vingança e poder. A trama nos joga em um mundo dominado pelo Império de Britannia, onde o Japão foi conquistado e rebatizado como Área 11. É nesse cenário que conhecemos nosso protagonista, Lelouch vi Britannia, um príncipe exilado que ganha um poder misterioso chamado Geass.

O que torna a história tão boa é que ela é, em sua essência, um gigantesco jogo de xadrez. Cada movimento de Lelouch (agora sob a máscara do líder revolucionário Zero) é calculado, e as batalhas são vencidas tanto com inteligência quanto com os robôs gigantes (os Knightmare Frames).

Para mim, os pontos altos são, sem dúvidas os finais de temporada. Code Geass sabe como criar um clímax. O final da primeira e da segunda temporada são simplesmente espetaculares, do tipo que te deixam sem palavras, olhando para a tela por minutos, tentando processar o que acabou de acontecer. É uma daquelas jornadas que, mesmo com alguns tropeços, fica com você para sempre.

Sistema de poder:

O Sistema de poder do anime era sobretudo o Geass e Estratégias, quem tem a melhor estrategia ganha, mas o Geass conta muito, o sistema e simples e legal, entretanto so por causa disso no x1 o Lelouch ganharia de 99% dos seres da ficção (exceto os cegos).

Meu Ranking de personagens:

1- Stephanie

Ok, personagem incrivel, a história dela é do balacobaco, muito bom mesmo, suas ideias, tudo impossível não curtir. Não quero falar mais pelos spoilers.

2- Schneizel

Melhor antagonista da serie na minha visão, fez tudo sem ter Geass, e o roteiro teve que forçar muito pra ser vencido, muito brabo, mesmo sendo um cuzao.

3- C.C e Lelouch

Personagem legais, curto eles bastante acho que um pouco mais a C.C ainda, mas os dois são muito importantes pra trama obviamente e as interações deles são legais.

Pontos Positivos e Negativos:

Nenhuma obra é perfeita, e é importante olhar para os dois lados da moeda.

*Pontos Negativos: A Pedra no Caminho (SUZAKU)

O principal problema que senti com Code Geass foi sua repetitividade no começo (maldito lancelot). Em vários episódios da primeira metade, a estrutura segue uma fórmula um pouco previsível de "problema da semana", onde Lelouch usa seu poder e sua inteligência para superar um desafio militar de forma parecida. Felizmente, isso passa à medida que a trama principal engrena de vez.

Além disso, existem alguns pequenos furos de roteiro (vamos concordar a batalha contra o Schneizel foi um roubo). Mas alem disso são coisas pequenas (decisões de personagens um pouco convenientes ou eventos que acontecem na hora certa) que, se você parar para pensar, não fazem 100% de sentido. Mas, honestamente, a força da narrativa é tão grande que você mal percebe esses detalhes no calor do momento.

Pontos Positivos: O Legado de uma Revolução (Que final bom)

Onde o anime realmente brilha é em sua ousadia. A trama revolucionária, que questiona se os fins justificam os meios, foi uma grande inspiração para muitas obras que vieram depois. Lelouch não é o herói comum; ele é um anti-herói complexo, disposto a fazer coisas terríveis por um bem maior, e essa profundidade moral é fascinante.

A inteligência do roteiro, focada em estratégia e reviravoltas, faz com que cada episódio seja uma surpresa. As batalhas não são apenas sobre quem tem o robô mais forte, mas sobre quem tem o plano mais genial.

Depois de pesar tudo, minha nota para Code Geass é um 8/10.

Por causa daquela repetitividade inicial e dos pequenos furos que mencionei (maldito suzaku com o lancelot). Eles impedem que a obra seja perfeita. No entanto, o anime recebe uma nota tão alta porque suas qualidades são muito mais impactantes que seus defeitos. A história principal, a complexidade do protagonista e, principalmente, seus momentos finais lendários elevam a obra, inclusive inspirou outras grandes obras como Attack on Titan.

Recomendo assistirem para passar o tempo se querem uma história com ação e estratégia.
