Hello, anime fan. This time, I bring you another TOP list, this time featuring five science fiction anime series that aired during this year's spring season. It is well known that science fiction has been one of the oldest genres in cinema and that the anime industry has had a great impact and influence on it over the last century. Although there are not many animated series now that resemble what was once the best of the genre, there are a few anime that have the potential to entertain, as well as tell an interesting story.
That's why I'm bringing you this top list so you can find out which science fiction anime series have been released and which ones I personally recommend watching. Don't forget that I rate each anime from 1 to 10, starting with the lowest rating and ending with the highest. I also remind you that everything you read below is my honest opinion. If you like science fiction related to post-apocalyptic futures, robots, aliens, and dystopian worlds, then I invite you to stay and watch this top list until the end so you can find your next favorite series.

Hola, fanático del anime. En esta ocasión les traigo otro TOP, esta vez con cinco animes del género de ciencia ficción que se emitieron en esta última temporada de primavera de este año. Es bien sabido que la ciencia ficción ha sido uno de los géneros más antiguos del séptimo arte y que la industria del anime ha tenido un gran impacto e influencia en la misma durante este último siglo. Si bien ahora no hay muchas series animadas que se le asemeje a lo que hace un tiempo fue lo mejor del género, sí hay uno que otro anime que tiene el potencial de entretener, además de contar una interesante historia.
Es por eso que les traigo este top para que conozcan qué animes del género de la ciencia ficción se han emitido y cuáles les recomiendo ver personalmente. No olviden que este tipo de contenido los hago calificando cada anime del 1 al 10, empezando con el de menor calificación y terminando con el de mayor calificación. También les recuerdo que todo lo que leerán a continuación será mi más sincera opinión. I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!
Let's start with what I consider to be the worst anime I've seen this season. An Isekai that is actually a mix of science fiction with fantasy, comedy, and action; in addition to having such a familiar plot and generic characters that it's hard not to dislike it from the start. Just to complete this list of five science fiction anime, I do not recommend this series at all, and I'm saying this right now. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Yomu Mishima and illustrated by Nadare Takamine, this animated adaptation was produced by Quad studio. The anime tells the story of a salaryman who has had very bad luck in both his love life and his finances and ends up completely ruined and alone until a multidimensional and unknown being appears to him and gives him a second chance in a fantasy world of his own choosing.
Not many Isekai anime have been broadcast this spring season, which has been a pleasant surprise. Or so I would say if it weren't for the fact that this is one of only a couple of Isekai anime that have been broadcast in the last three months. I honestly tell you that it is complete trash full of clichés, fanservice, absurd humor, and generic characters. And what's worse is not what I just wrote, but the fact that it adds science fiction with the mere intention of attracting the attention of the huge audience behind the theme of Mechas and intergalactic battles. But beyond that, it has nothing else to offer, really. Not even its protagonist, who is the typical main character who has all kinds of luck after receiving a second chance after having had a very unfortunate life before. Obviously, as the protagonist of a painful story full of betrayal, the idea of becoming the "Evil Lord" in this new world is just another copy of the typical revenge story that has been seen many times before in this industry.
After seeing so many Isekais of this style, I'm not impressed by what this series has to offer. Clichés such as the humor and excessive fanservice are things that detract from it and only show that it's just another product designed to attract the attention of a specific audience. As for the animation, there's not much to talk about either, as it's not one of the best productions or adaptations I've seen, far from it. Its quality, while merely acceptable with its drawing style and good mix of 2D animation with 3D landscapes and impressive intergalactic battle scenes, ultimately leaves much to be desired in many other aspects. In short, this is an anime that is best forgotten.
Personally, I give it a rating of 5/10 in terms of the science fiction, action, and fantasy genres.

Empecemos con el que -para mí- es el peor anime que he visto en esta temporada. Un Isekai que en realidad es una mezcla de ciencia ficción con fantasía, comedia y acción; además de tener una trama tan conocida y personajes tan genéricos que es difícil no verle algún disgusto desde el principio. Únicamente para completar esta lista de cinco animes de ciencia ficción, esta serie no la recomiendo para nada y lo estoy diciendo desde ya. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Yomu Mishima e ilustradas por Nadare Takamine, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Quad. El anime nos cuenta la historia de un hombre asalariado que ha tenido muy mala suerte en su vida tanto amorosa como económica y termina completamente arruinado y solo hasta que un ser multidimensional y desconocido se le aparece y le da una segunda oportunidad en un mundo fantástico que él mismo escoge.
En esta temporada de primavera no se han emitido muchos animes Isekai, lo cual ha sido una agradable sorpresa. O eso quisiera decir si no fuera porque del único par de Isekais que se emitieron en estos últimos tres meses se encuentra este. Sinceramente les digo que es una completa basura repleta de clichés, fanservice, humor absurdo y personajes genéricos. Y lo que es peor no es lo que acabo de escribir, sino el hecho de que añade la ciencia ficción con la mera intención de llamar la atención del enorme público que hay detrás del tema de los Mechas y las batallas intergalácticas. Pero más allá de eso, no tiene nada más por ofrecer, la verdad. Ni su protagonista que es el típico personaje principal que tiene todo tipo de suertes luego de recibir una segunda oportunidad al haber tenido antes una vida muy desafortunada. Obviamente, al ser el protagonista de una historia dolorosa y repleta de traición, la idea de convertirse en el “Señor Malvado” en este nuevo mundo es solo una copia más de la típica historia de venganza que se ha visto mucho ya en esta industria.
Luego de ver tantos Isekais de este estilo no me impresiona nada lo que tiene esta serie para ofrecer. Con respecto a los clichés como el humor que maneja y su fanservice excesivo son cosas que le restan puntos y solo demuestran que es un producto más para conseguir atención de cierto público en específico. En cuanto al tema de su animación tampoco hay mucho de qué hablar ya que no es de las mejores producciones o adaptaciones que he visto ni muchísimo menos. Su calidad, si bien es meramente aceptable con su estilo de dibujo y buena mezcla de animación 2D con paisajes 3D y escenarios de batallas intergalácticas impresionantes; al final deja mucho que desear en muchos otros aspectos. En resumen, este es un anime que lo mejor es que te olvides de que existe.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 5/10 en lo que respecta al género de ciencia ficción, acción y fantasía.

Me and the Alien MuMu
Now let's talk about a science fiction and comedy anime that is very different from the one we just presented above. This series is one of those that are made to entertain and relax with a comical yet calm story with few plot twists and almost no action, really. That's right, it's one of those so-called "Slice of Life" series that are the complete opposite of the typical action- and fantasy-filled works that everyone knows. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Hiroki Miyashita, this animated adaptation was produced by the OLM studio. The anime tells the story of Sakurako Umeyashiki, a college student with serious problems socializing and making friends who, out of nowhere, receives an unexpected visit from a UFO in her apartment (it crashes). What no one expects is that the space visitor is actually a cat seeking to restore his civilization.
Apart from its absurd plot, but with a touch of the classic "visitor from space", I wasn't very excited about this anime, as it was ultimately just a comedy about space cats. However, as I continued watching it, I realized that it is more than that. While it's true that it has light humor, calm episodes, and funny and extravagant characters, the plot and the way the story unfolds make sense. The theme of aliens, human civilization, technology, and the possibility of restoring an alien civilization by learning from Earth technology is something that appeals to me, at least personally. I don't know if it's because of my inner technician or because literally every episode you watch ends up teaching you something about appliances and the like. On the other hand, in terms of the characters, the anime takes its time to develop them and give us reasons to empathize with them.
Especially with the protagonist and her cat/space pet, who are literally two completely opposite poles. However, as time goes by, Sakurako gives us reasons not to say she's completely useless, even though she herself thinks she is because of her self-esteem issues. Anyway, despite being seemingly comical and boring, this anime deals with interesting topics and tells a story that is worth watching. The animation, to be honest, is not the best in the world, but it is very well done. Yes, it has a somewhat peculiar and simple drawing style and character designs, but in terms of details, visual effects, and movement styles, it is very well produced. And that's just the visuals, because as for the soundtrack, it's mostly a catchy tune that varies depending on the moment and gives the episodes that comical and emotional touch. In short, this anime is good if you want to spend a quiet moment watching talking cats.
Personally, I give it a 7/10 rating in terms of the science fiction and comedy genres.

Hablemos ahora de un anime de ciencia ficción y comedia muy diferente al que acabamos de presentar arriba. Esta serie es de esas que están hechas para entretener y relajarse con una historia cómica y a la vez tranquila con pocos giros de trama y casi nada de acción, en realidad. Así es, es de esos llamados “Slice of Life” que son todo lo opuesto a las típicas obras repletas de acción y fantasía que todos conocen. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Hiroki Miyashita, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio OLM. El anime cuenta la historia de Sakurako Umeyashiki, una universitaria con serios problemas para socializar y hacer amigos que, de la nada, recibe la inesperada visita de un OVNI en su departamento (se estrella). Lo que nadie espera es que el visitante espacial sea en realidad un gato que busca restaurar su civilización.
Aparte de su trama toda absurda, pero con un toque del clásico “visitante del espacio”; no le tenía mucha ilusión a este anime al ser al final una comedia de gatos espaciales nomás. Sin embargo, al seguirla viendo me di cuenta de que es más que eso. Si bien es cierto que tiene un humor ligero, episodios tranquilos y personajes chistosos y extravagantes; la trama y la forma en la que se desarrolla la historia tiene algo de sentido. El tema de los extraterrestres, la civilización humana, la tecnología y la posibilidad de recuperar una civilización extraterrestre aprendiendo de dicha tecnología terrícola es algo que atrae, al menos en lo personal. No sé si sea por mí técnico interior o porque literalmente cada capítulo que ves terminas aprendiendo algo sobre electrodomésticos y cosas por el estilo. Por otro lado, en cuanto al tema de los personajes, el anime se toma su tiempo para desarrollarlos y darnos razones para poder empatizar con ellos.
Sobre todo con la protagonista y su gato/mascota espacial, quienes literalmente son dos polos completamente opuestos. Sin embargo, mientras pasa el tiempo, Sakurako nos da razones para no decir que es una completa inútil, aunque ella misma piensa que lo es por sus problemas de autoestima. En fin, a pesar de ser algo aparentemente cómico y aburrido, este anime trata temas interesantes y nos cuenta una historia que vale la pena ver. La animación, para ser sincero, no es la mejor del mundo, pero está muy bien hecha. Si, tiene un estilo de dibujo y diseños de personajes un tanto particulares y sencillos, pero en cuanto a detalles, efectos visuales y estilos de movimiento está muy bien producido. Y eso es solo con lo visual, ya que en cuanto a su banda sonora mayormente trata de una tonada pegajosa que varía según el momento y le da ese toque cómico y emotivo a los episodios. En fin, este anime es bueno si quieres pasar un rato tranquilo viendo gatos parlantes.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7/10 en lo que respecta al género de la ciencia ficción y la comedia.

Kowloon Generic Romance
Let's continue with a unique anime that seamlessly blends science fiction with romance and mystery. A love story that turns into a dystopian future and ends up becoming the dream of a broken heart. A romantic drama not recommended for everyone, but made for various types of audiences. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Jun Mayuzuki, this animated adaptation was produced by Arvo Animation studio. The anime tells the story of Kujirai Reiko, a 32-year-old real estate agent who lives in the Walled City of Kowloon, Hong Kong. Her only co-worker, Hajime Kudo, feels a certain nostalgia for the city and its traditional style, unlike her, who has a taste for the modern.
This anime can be classified as one of the surprises of the season. More than anything else, because of its story and the unique way it mixes science fiction with drama, mystery, and romance. However, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have an open mind and a special taste for mystery and plots full of different kinds of romance. I won't say any more, not only to avoid spoilers, but also to let anyone who reads this and wants to go and see it know what I'm writing about. Otherwise, this plot full of secrets is nothing more than a perfect hook for the audience. In addition, it has a protagonist who is difficult to ignore, especially since she is involved in one mystery after another in this enormous, ambiguous, and at the same time disturbing place. Being a futuristic world, the anime also shows us fictional elements such as the machine that can be seen in the sky.
We also have the secondary characters in this anime, each of whom has their own particular way of attracting attention. Their styles, attitudes, secrets, and stories are elements that make them perfect characters for this story. As for the romance theme, it is very different from what we are used to seeing in this industry. The themes dealt with in this story are things that leave you thinking and make you wonder what the hell the writer went through to come up with all this. As for the animation, let's say that it is one of the weak points of this anime, as are certain gaps and details that are missing from the story. However, it is decent in terms of character design, drawing style, visual details, and transitions. The soundtrack is also well done, especially the opening theme, which I really like. In short, this is an anime that I only recommend to those who like complex romances.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 in terms of the science fiction, romance, and mystery genres.

Sigamos con un anime único en su estilo que mezcla la ciencia ficción esta vez con el romance y el misterio de una manera impecable. Una historia de amor que luego se convierte en un futuro distópico para terminar convirtiéndose en el sueño de un corazón roto. Un drama romántico no recomendable para todo el mundo, pero sí hecho para varios tipos de públicos. Basada en la serie de mangas homónimas escritas e ilustradas por Jun Mayuzuki, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Arvo Animation. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Kujirai Reiko, una agente inmobiliaria de 32 años que vive en la Ciudad Amurallada de Kowloon, Hong Kong. Su único compañero de trabajo, Hajime Kudo, siente cierta nostalgia por dicha ciudad y su estilo tradicional, a diferencia de ella que tiene cierto gusto por lo moderno.
Este anime se puede catalogar como una de las sorpresas de la temporada. Más que nada por su historia y la forma tan única de mezclar la ciencia ficción con el drama, el misterio y el romance. Sin embargo, no lo recomendaría a menos que tengas una mente abierta y un gusto especial por el misterio y las tramas repletas de romances de distintos tipos. No diré más, no solo para evitar spoiler, sino también para dejar que cada quien que lea esto y tenga el deseo de ir a verlo sepa de lo que estoy escribiendo. De resto, dicha trama repleta de secretos no es más que un gancho perfecto para el público. Además, tiene una protagonista que es difícil de ignorar, sobre todo porque está envuelta en un misterio tras otro de este enorme, ambiguo y a la vez inquietante lugar. Al ser un mundo futurista, el anime nos muestra también elementos ficticios como la máquina que se ve en el cielo.
También tenemos a los personajes secundarios de este anime, los cuales cada uno tiene su forma de llamar la atención de manera particular. Sus estilos, actitudes, secretos e historias son elementos que los convierten en personajes perfectos para esta historia. En cuanto al tema del romance, es un romance muy diferente al que estamos acostumbrados a ver en esta industria. Los temas que trata esta historia son cosas que te dejan pensando y te hacen preguntarte qué rayos habrá vivido el que escribió todo esto. En cuanto a su animación, digamos que es uno de los puntos débiles que tiene este anime, al igual que ciertos huecos y detalles que se escapan en su historia. Sin embargo, es decente en cuanto al diseño de los personajes, estilo de dibujo, detalles visuales y transiciones. La banda sonora también está bien hecha, sobre todo su Opening que me gusta mucho. En resumen, este es un anime que solo se lo recomiendo a los que les gustan los romances complejos.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de ciencia ficción, romance y misterio.

Your Forma
Let's talk about another science fiction and mystery anime, but this time more focused on crimes and detectives with robot assistants. This is an anime that went largely unnoticed in the last three months despite having a very interesting mix of criminal cases involving artificial intelligence and exposed minds. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Mareho Kikuishi and illustrated by Tsubasa Nozaki, this animated adaptation was produced by Geno Studio. The anime is set in a futuristic world where Your Forma technology is used in everyday life. We meet Echika Hieda, an electronic investigator who uses this technology to "dive" into people's memories and find information and evidence to solve various crime cases.
Lately, I've been giving more opportunities to anime of this type that are broadcast each season. There are many anime related to crime and detectives, but very few manage to mix science fiction in an interesting way like Your Forma does. At least when it comes to setting us in a futuristic world where technology has advanced so much that it is used in everyday life to process and store all kinds of information in everyone's memory, it's something I haven't seen before (at least not in this way). But best of all, the story not only revolves around this, but also around the different crimes that Echika solves together with her partner Harold Lucraft, who, incidentally, is a state-of-the-art android with a human appearance. From the beginning, we can see what is clearly a special relationship that both characters will have throughout the series.
But what we think is predictable ends up becoming a series of cases, mysteries, and revelations that make this pair unique in their style. I like that the anime takes care to develop the characters well, giving each one their moment to shine in every episode. Each case they solve reveals not only secrets about the criminal they are looking for, but also shows a side of this futuristic society that no one likes to talk about. The way it deals with deep issues and quite sensitive cases is another detail worth highlighting. On the other hand, we have the animation, which is not the best, but it does give us an enjoyable audiovisual experience. The drawing style, character designs, visual details, and mix of 2D and 3D animation are well done. There is also the soundtrack, which seems to have been carefully crafted to stand out from the rest. In short, this is an anime that I recommend if you like futuristic mysteries.

Hablemos de otro anime de ciencia ficción y misterio, pero esta vez más dirigido a crímenes y detectives con robots asistentes. Este es un anime que pasó muy desapercibido en estos últimos tres meses a pesar de tener una mezcla muy interesante de casos criminales con inteligencia artificial y mentes al descubierto. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Mareho Kikuishi e ilustradas por Tsubasa Nozaki, esta adaptación animada fue producida por Geno Studio. El anime está ambientado en un mundo futurista donde la tecnología Your Forma es utilizada en la vida cotidiana. Conocemos a Echika Hieda, una investigadora electrónica que utiliza esta tecnología para “bucear” en los recuerdos de las personas y así encontrar información y evidencias para resolver distintos casos de crímenes que hay.
Últimamente le estoy dando más oportunidad a animes de este tipo que se emiten cada temporada. Hay muchos animes relacionados a crímenes y detectives, pero muy pocos consiguen mezclar de manera interesante la ciencia ficción como lo hace Your Forma. Al menos en cuanto se trata de ambientarnos a un mundo futurista donde la tecnología ha avanzado tanto que se utiliza en la vida diaria para procesar y guardar información de todo tipo en la memoria de cada uno es algo que no he visto antes (al menos no de esta forma). Pero lo mejor de todo es que la historia no solo gira en torno a esto, sino también a los diferentes crímenes que resuelve Echika junto con su compañero Harold Lucraft, quien por cierto es un androide de última generación con apariencia humana. Desde el principio podemos ver lo que claramente es una relación especial que ambos personajes tendrán a lo largo de la serie.
Pero lo que creemos que es algo predecible, termina convirtiéndose en una serie de casos, misterios y revelaciones que hacen de esta pareja única en su estilo. Me gusta que el anime se esmere en desarrollar bien a los personajes dándoles a cada uno su momento de brillar en cada episodio. Cada caso que resuelven revelan no solo secretos sobre el criminal que están buscando, sino que también demuestran un lado de esta sociedad futurista que a nadie le gusta hablar. La manera en la que trata temas profundos y casos bastante sensibles es otro detalle a resaltar. Por otro lado, tenemos la animación, la cual no es que sea la mejor, pero cumple con darnos un espectáculo audiovisual agradable. El estilo de dibujo, los diseños de los personajes, los detalles visuales y la mezcla de animación 2D con 3D están bien hechos. También está la banda sonora, la cual parece que se esforzaron por hacer que se destaque de lo demás. En fin, este es un anime que recomiendo si te gusta el misterio futurista.

Apocalypse Hotel
We end this list with what I consider to be the best anime I've seen this season, without exaggeration. A truly underrated gem that is well worth watching and enjoying, whether you are a fan of science fiction or not. This is one of those surprises of the season that you watch and are grateful to be alive to enjoy such an audiovisual masterpiece. Apocalypse Hotel is nothing less than an original anime produced by the great studio CygamesPictures. The series tells the story of Hotel Gingarou, a place run by automaton robots that is the only thing left functioning after the entire world has been completely contaminated, causing the few human survivors to leave the planet. After several centuries, visitors from space arrive at the hotel, where they are greeted by the gynoid concierge Yachiyo.
I think this is the first time I've spoken so highly of an anime (as far as I can remember). And it's no surprise, considering what a great masterpiece Apocalypse Hotel is. As a fan of science fiction in general, but more specifically of futuristic, dystopian, and post-apocalyptic worlds, it's a real pleasure to watch this series, which has all this and more. Because yes, there are even aliens and everything else in this anime. Its perfect blend of comedy and drama with such a pure and excellent style and aesthetic is all you need to watch it and spend your time laughing, crying, enjoying the action, and experiencing the occasional surprise. I think this is the second time I've seen an anime related to a hotel, but unlike the previous one, this anime in particular fascinated me quite a bit because of how well done it is. It's like a letter addressed to the best of cinema and animation in general.
What I like most about this anime, apart from its amazing and intriguing premise, is the way it tells stories in each of its 12 episodes. I also like how they manage to develop their characters so well that it's hard not to become attached to or empathize with them. Especially with the robots, which is ironic since they are supposed to have no feelings. Not only that, but even the visitors from space sometimes take center stage, telling us fantastic stories that are hard to forget. On the other hand, we have the animation, which is another big plus for this anime, as it has the high level of quality expected from its studio. The aesthetics, the light color palette, the drawing style, the charismatic character design, the fluidity, the details, and the visual effects are top-notch. The soundtrack is wonderful, not only for setting the mood and conveying emotions at every key moment, but also for its opening, which is an audiovisual gem. In short, this is the anime I recommend watching 100% out of all the ones on this list.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating in terms of the science fiction genre.

Finalizamos este top con el que para mí es el mejor anime que he visto en esta última temporada, sin exageración alguna. Una verdadera joya súper infravalorada que vale toda la pena ver y disfrutar, seas fan o no de la ciencia ficción. Esta es de esas sorpresas de la temporada que ves y agradeces haber estado vivo como para disfrutar tal obra maestra audiovisual. Apocalypse Hotel es, ni más ni menos, que un anime original producido por el grandioso estudio CygamesPictures. La serie nos relata la historia del Hotel Gingarou, un lugar dirigido por robots autómatas que es lo único que queda en funcionamiento luego de que el mundo entero haya sido contaminado por completo causando que los pocos sobrevivientes humanos dejasen el planeta. Luego de varios siglos, unos visitantes del espacio llegan al hotel donde los recibe la conserje ginoide Yachiyo.
Creo que es la primera vez que hablo tan bien de un anime (que yo recuerde). Y no es una sorpresa al tener en cuenta esta grandiosa obra maestra que es Apocalypse Hotel. Como fan de la ciencia ficción en general, pero más de los mundos futuristas, distópicos y post-apocalípticos; es todo un placer ver esta serie que posee todo esto y más. Porque sí, hasta extraterrestres y todo hay en este anime. Su mezcla perfecta de comedia y drama con un estilo y una estética tan pura y excelente es todo lo que necesitas para poder verla y pasar el rato entre risas, llantos, acción y una que otra sorpresa. Creo que esta es la segunda vez que veo un anime relacionado a un hotel, pero a diferencia del anterior, este anime en especial me fascinó bastante por lo bien hecho que está. Es como una carta dirigida a lo mejor del séptimo arte y la animación en general.
