Top 5 Fantasy Animes of the Winter Season (2025) | Nattosheru Review [ENG/SPA]
Hello, anime fans. As usual every season, I bring you this time my "Top 5" of the anime of the fantasy genre that have been broadcasted in the last three months of the year. Being a genre that -as you may already know- is so popular, commercial and exploited within this industry; it is common to see so many broadcasts of similar anime in this category every season that it is easy for me to update this list every quarter, without a break. But despite the sheer number of anime out there, quality is becoming harder and harder to find. That's why I always bring you this section at the end of each quarter with my favorite anime (or the ones with which I have spent less displeasure during their broadcast), to make it easier for you to know which anime you will be interested in watching, taking into account my opinion and my own rating. Keep in mind also that bringing you this top is not a general recommendation of each and every one of these anime. If it is to personally recommend any anime, I will make it clear during each explanation.

Hola, fanáticos del anime. Como ya es costumbre en cada temporada, les traigo en esta ocasión mi “Top 5” de los animes del género fantasía que se han emitido en estos últimos tres meses del año. Siendo un género que -como ya sabrán- es tan popular, comercial y explotado dentro de esta industria; es común ver tantas emisiones de animes similares en esta categoría cada temporada que me es sencillo actualizar cada trimestre esta lista, sin descanso. Pero a pesar de la gran cantidad de animes que hay, la calidad se vuelve cada vez algo más difícil de encontrar. Es por eso que les traigo siempre esta sección al final de cada trimestre con mis animes favoritos (o con los que menos disgustos he pasado durante su emisión), para que se les haga más fácil saber qué animes les interesará ver, teniendo en cuenta mi opinión y mi propia calificación. Tengan en cuenta también que traerles este top no supone una recomendación general de todos y cada uno de estos animes. Si es de recomendar personalmente algún anime, lo dejaré claro durante cada explicación.

Let's start by talking about one of the most generic fantasy anime I've come across this season (which unfortunately is not the only generic anime on this list). With such a common premise and a bunch of clichés, it's only natural that it has gone unnoticed due to the fact that it offers nothing more than the typical "hero's journey" story we all know. Based on the eponymous light novel series written by Ibarakino and illustrated by Yu Hitaki, this anime adaptation was produced by the Okuruto Noboru studio. The anime tells the story of Ein, a young man who was born - just like everyone else in this world - with a skill and/or job. Unfortunately for him, his skill is "Evaluator", a job that classifies him as the weakest, most useless and demeaning of all. One day he is abandoned by his teammates in a dangerous dungeon where monsters are about to end his life, but to his luck he is saved and healed by a very powerful being that shelters in the depths of this place.
As you can imagine, this anime has a premise very similar to that of many other anime where the protagonists start out as the weakest of all and, by fate, luck or the script itself; they manage to get a gift power that makes them the most powerful of all. Only, in this case it can be considered the fact that he obtained certain "training" to be able to dominate those powers that were given to him. And about the source of his powers I can only say that it is born from another trait that this anime has that makes it very common among the others of the fantasy genre. That's right, I'm talking about the "harem" or group of girls that the protagonist meets and who begin to walk with him in adventures around the world. The use of the harem in fantasy anime is as common as the use of fanservice, which unfortunately is not lacking in this series either. While they try to give a little bit of development to the protagonist at the beginning with his traumatic past and all that, it's clear that we then see a very typical demonstration of the classic "invincible hero".
I'm not saying that I don't like these stories of heroes fighting monsters and demons while becoming stronger and stronger and invincible as their harem gets bigger and bigger. It's just that the frequent use of this same plot and elements in all the stories is so common that it's even boring to watch. However, its frequency and tireless use in present and future anime is ours that it is what is most consumed and sold in this industry. On the other hand, as for its animation, there is not much to talk about. We must admit that its style and quality of animation may be a little better than even some anime we will talk about later. With character designs somewhat -quite- exaggerated (referring more to the figures of some women than the other characters), but with a good use of visual effects, color palette and sound effects that stand out even more in battle scenes that abound in this series. Let's just say that if it weren't for its generic plot, harem and high fanservice, I would have placed this anime a little higher than where it is in this top.
Personally, I give it a 6.5/10 rating as far as the fantasy genre is concerned.

Empecemos hablando de uno de los animes de fantasía más genéricos que me he encontrado en esta temporada (la cual lamentablemente no es el único anime genérico de esta lista). Con una premisa y un montón de clichés tan comunes, es normal que haya pasado desapercibido debido a que no ofrece nada más que la típica historia del “camino del héroe” que todos conocemos. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónima escrita por Ibarakino e ilustrada por Yu Hitaki, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Okuruto Noboru. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Ein, un joven que ha nacido -al igual que todos en este mundo- con una habilidad y/o trabajo. Desgraciadamente para él, su habilidad es “Evaluador”, un trabajo que lo clasifica como el más débil, inútil y denigrante de todos. Un día es abandonado por sus compañeros de equipo en una mazmorra peligrosa donde los monstruos están a punto de acabar con su vida, pero para su suerte es salvado y sanado por un ser muy poderoso que se resguarda en lo más profundo de este lugar.
Como ya se pueden imaginar, este anime posee una premisa muy similar a la de muchos otros animes donde los protagonistas empiezan siendo los más débiles de todos y, por obra del destino, la suerte o el mismo guión; logran conseguir un poder regalado que los vuelve los más poderosos de todos. Solo que, en este caso se puede considerar el hecho de que obtuvo cierto “entrenamiento” para poder dominar dichos poderes que le regalaron. Y sobre la fuente de sus poderes solo puedo decir que nace de otro rasgo que tiene este anime que lo hace muy común de entre los demás del género de fantasía. Así es, estoy hablando del “harem” o grupo de chicas que el protagonista conoce y que empiezan a andar con él en aventuras por el mundo. El uso del harem en animes de fantasía es tan común como el uso del fanservice, cosa que tampoco falta desgraciadamente en esta serie. Si bien intentan darle un poquito de desarrollo al protagonista al principio con su pasado traumático y todo eso, está claro que luego vemos una demostración muy típica del clásico “héroe invencible”.
No digo que no me gusten estas historias de héroes peleando contra monstruos y demonios mientras se vuelven cada vez más fuertes e invencibles a la vez que su harem es cada vez más y más grande. Solo que el uso tan frecuente de esta misma trama y elementos en todas las historias es tan común que es hasta aburrido de ver. Sin embargo, su frecuencia e incansable uso de la misma en animes presentes y futuros es nuestra de que es lo que más se consume y se vende en esta industria. Por otro lado, en cuanto a su animación no hay mucho de qué hablar. Sí hay que admitir que su estilo y calidad de animación puede que sean un poco mejores que incluso algunos animes que hablaremos más adelante. Con diseños de personajes un tanto -bastante- exagerados (refiriéndome más a las figuras de algunas mujeres que de los demás personajes), pero con un buen uso de efectos visuales, paleta de colores y efectos de sonido que se destacan aún más en escenas de batallas que abundan en esta serie. Digamos que si no fuera por su trama genérica, su harem y su alto fanservice, hubiera colocado a este anime en una posición un poco más alta que en la que está en este top.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 6.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía.

Let's talk now about another fantasy anime that can also be categorized as generic due to its similarity in plot and characters. However, because it does not have many clichés such as a harem or excessive fanservice, I place it in this position even though its animation is not the best on the list. Based on the web novel series of the same name written by Hanyuu, this animated adaptation was produced by Asahi Production studio. It tells the story of Light Underwood, a boy who dreams of becoming the greatest adventurer in history. However, in a world where everyone is granted an ability thanks to a special fruit that they can only eat once in their lives, our protagonist obtains in his adolescence the strange and seemingly useless ability of "Fruit Master". But one day and by accident he eats a second special fruit with which he obtains another ability, that of the "God of the Sword".
Aside from its unique premise involving magical fruits that grant abilities, this anime tells the typical story of the hero, only with a detail in his origin and the obtaining of his abilities. Likewise, this typical use of luck with the protagonists is as common as the generic hero plot itself in these fantasy anime. That is, in a world where it is forbidden to eat more than one "Ability Fruit" for fear of dying, our protagonist eating a second such fruit, which gives him a second ability (instead of dying) after already having the "Fruit Master" one, is as absurd as it gets. However, it must be admitted that the irony in all this is what always catches the viewer's attention at first. Otherwise, this anime has a story and character development that doesn't stand out much more than usual, truth be told.
On the other hand, I like that at a certain point in the anime the main focus is not always on the protagonist who is lucky enough to farm skills just by eating fruits, but his supporting characters also get their starring role in several episodes at once. The rest, I don't have much more to say since in terms of world building, lore and villains don't stand out at all, honestly. There is also the visual and aesthetic section, with an animation style that is pleasing to the eye, besides being very colorful. But in terms of fluidity it has its shortcomings, the same happens with the visual effects and transitions that it has, which are not the best that can be found in this list. As for sound effects it doesn't stand out much either, not like the soundtrack that, at least with its Opening, stands out a lot with its catchy song. It's definitely not an anime that I would recommend watching, to be honest.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7/10 as far as the fantasy genre is concerned.

Hablemos ahora de otro anime de fantasía que también se puede catalogar como genérico debido a su similitud en su trama y personajes. Sin embargo, debido a que no dispone de muchos clichés como un harem o exceso de fanservice, lo coloco en esta posición a pesar de que su animación no sea la mejor de la lista. Basada en la serie de novelas web que llevan su mismo nombre y que están escritas por Hanyuu, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Asahi Production. Cuenta la historia de Light Underwood, un chico que sueña desde pequeño con ser el aventurero más grande de toda la historia. Sin embargo, en un mundo donde a todos se les otorga una habilidad gracias a una fruta especial que solo pueden comer una sola vez en sus vidas, nuestro protagonista obtiene en su adolescencia la extraña y aparentemente inútil habilidad de “Maestro de las Frutas”. Pero un día y por accidente se come una segunda fruta especial con la que obtiene otra habilidad, la del “Dios de la Espada”.
Aparte de su singular premisa envuelta en frutas mágicas que otorgan habilidades, este anime nos cuenta la típica historia del héroe, sólo que con un detalle en su origen y la obtención de sus habilidades nomás. Igualmente, este típico uso de la suerte con los protagonistas es tan común como la misma trama genérica del héroe en estos animes de fantasía. O sea, en un mundo donde se prohíbe comer más de una “Fruta de Habilidad” por temor a morir, nuestro protagonista se come una segunda fruta de este tipo, la cual le da una segunda habilidad (en vez de morir) después de tener ya la de “Maestro de las Frutas” es de lo más absurdo que se puede inventar. Sin embargo, hay que admitir que la ironía en todo esto es lo que llama siempre la atención del espectador al principio. De resto, este anime posee un desarrollo de historia y personajes que no destaca mucho más de lo común, la verdad.
Por otro lado, me gusta que en cierto punto del anime la atención principal no siempre se la lleva el protagonista que tiene la suerte de farmear habilidades con solo comer frutas, sino que sus personajes secundarios también obtienen su estelar en varios episodios a la vez. De resto, no tengo mucho más que decir ya que en cuanto a construcción de mundos, lore y villanos no se destacan en lo absoluto, sinceramente. También está el apartado visual y estético, con un estilo de animación agradable a la vista, además de ser muy colorido. Pero en cuanto a fluidez tiene sus carencias, lo mismo sucede con los efectos visuales y transiciones que tiene, que no son las mejores que se puede encontrar en esta lista. En cuanto a efectos de sonido tampoco se destaca mucho, no como la banda sonora que, al menos con su Opening, resaltan mucho con su canción pegajosa. Definitivamente no es un anime que yo recomiende ver, la verdad.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía.

Let's continue with an anime very different from the ones we have talked about in this top, with a much darker and bloody tone, being part of the well-known Seinen demographic (unlike most fantasy anime of Shōnen demographic). Despite this, it is an anime that has not become very popular this season. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Etorōji Shiono, this anime adaptation was produced by Statelaght and Staple Entertainment studios. The anime tells us the tragic story of Köinzel, a young non-human who possesses a heartbreaking power that he will use to take revenge on those who betrayed him in his previous life, when he was a young hero and a member of a team of 13 heroes, just like him. The 7 traitors are now revered by the world as his saviors, which will make it a very difficult task for our protagonist to get his revenge.
As you may have noticed, this fantasy anime does not tell us the typical "hero's journey" story that we are all tired of seeing repeated in this genre. Instead, we see a raw story of revenge, cruelty, betrayal, vices, greed, power and evil desires. I must admit that, if it weren't for my love/hate for the particular way they have of developing this story, I would have placed this anime in a higher position than it is now. And the fact is that you rarely see stories of this style in the industry, or well, not as well done as this particular series is. While it is clear that the protagonist has a gift of power that he will use to take revenge on his former companions and traitors, we see that they also take the trouble to develop each of these characters, as well as the others, making the moment of fulfilling his revenge feel much more bloodthirsty and traumatic than it seems.
Right from the start we can clearly see that we are presented with a quite different vision of the hero, with a world where the heroes they revere and praise are actually the mecca of human scum. Beings with personalities that you can easily despise when you get to know them, as well as seeing the impact of their influence and bad decisions on the kingdom and its inhabitants. Discrimination, hatred, persecution, humiliation and abuse are just some of the things these beings use to stay on top. On the other hand, a detail I don't like about this anime is the lack of context regarding the origin of the power possessed by the protagonist, who before dying was already a skilled and recognized swordsman for his young age. There is also the issue of fanservice, which, although not very frequent, the sexualization of female characters is something remarkable in this anime. Finally, the animation, which is fine, taking into account the little censorship it has and the design of the characters and their animation style with dark and cold tones. But it fails badly in terms of fluidity, with the frequent use of fixed shots with basic motion effects and repetitive sound effects. It's not an anime I would recommend to anyone, really.
Personally, I give it a 7.5/10 rating as far as the (dark) fantasy genre is concerned.

Continuemos con un anime muy diferente a los que hemos hablado en este top, con un tono mucho más oscuro y sangriento, siendo parte de la conocida demografía Seinen (a diferencia de la mayoría de animes de fantasía de demografía Shōnen). A pesar de esto, es un anime que no se ha popularizado mucho en esta temporada. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Etorōji Shiono, esta adaptación animada fue producida por los estudios Statelaght y Staple Entertainment. El anime nos relata la trágica historia de Köinzel, un joven no-humano que posee un poder desgarrador que utilizará para vengarse de quienes lo traicionaron en su anterior vida, cuando era un joven héroe y miembro de un equipo de 13 héroes, al igual que él. Los 7 traidores son ahora venerados por el mundo como sus salvadores, cosa hará que a nuestro protagonista le sea una tarea muy difícil conseguir su venganza.
Como ya se habrán dado cuenta, este anime de fantasía no nos relata la típica historia del “camino del héroe” que ya todos estamos cansados de ver repetirse siempre en este género. En cambio, vemos una cruda historia de venganza, crueldad, traiciones, vicios, avaricia, poder y malos deseos. Debo de admitir que, si no fuera por mi amor/odio hacia la forma tan particular que tienen de desarrollar esta historia, hubiera colocado este anime en un puesto mayor al que se encuentra ahora. Y es que muy pocas veces se ven historias de este estilo en la industria, o bueno, no tan bien hechos como lo está esta serie en particular. Si bien está claro que el protagonista tiene un poder regalado que utilizará para vengarse de sus antiguos compañeros y traidores, vemos que también se toman la molestia de desarrollar a cada uno de estos personajes, al igual que los demás, haciendo que al momento de cumplir con su venganza se sienta mucho más sanguinario y traumático de lo que parece.
Ya desde el principio podemos ver claramente que se nos presenta una visión bastante diferente del héroe, con un mundo en donde los héroes que veneran y alaban son en realidad la meca de la escoria humana. Seres con personalidades que fácilmente puedes despreciar cuando los llegas a conocer, además de ver el impacto de su influencia y sus malas decisiones en el reino y sus habitantes. Discriminación, odio, persecución, humillaciones y abusos son solo algunas de las cosas que estos seres utilizan para mantenerse en la cima. Por otro lado, un detalle que no me gusta de este anime es la falta de contexto respecto al origen del poder que posee el protagonista, quien antes de morir ya era un espadachín hábil y reconocido para su corta edad. También está el tema del fanservice que, si bien no es muy frecuente, la sexualización de los personajes femeninos es algo notable en este anime. Por último, la animación, la cual está bien, tomando en cuenta la poca censura que tiene y el diseño de los personajes y su estilo de animación con tonos oscuros y fríos. Pero falla mucho en cuanto a fluidez, con el frecuente uso de planos fijos con efectos de movimiento básicos y efectos de sonido repetitivos. No es un anime que recomendaría a cualquiera, la verdad.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía (oscura).

Let's talk now about a fantasy anime that has also gone unnoticed this season due to how generic it appears to be. This time it does not focus on a protagonist becoming a hero or seeking revenge, but of a team of adventurers where the only boy is the protagonist, evidently. Based on the eponymous light novel series written by Kōsuke Unagi and illustrated by Super Zombie, this animated adaptation was produced by Bandai Namco Pictures studio. The series tells the story of Yuke, a Red Mage and member of one of the most famous adventurer groups of the guild. He is constantly despised and humiliated by his peers, as well as being called useless despite the fact that his help and skills make his group succeed almost every time. One day, after 5 years, Yuke gets tired of so much humiliation and leaves the group. Being A-Rank, he manages to join a new, low-ranking group made up of his former students.
Leaving aside the theme of heroes that I'm already tired of, this anime seems to tell us the story of a small group of adventurers who, led by a talented mage (our protagonist), manage to perform various missions and go on adventures around the world going from dungeon to dungeon and defeating monsters and enemies of all kinds. We can also notice interesting details regarding the technology or means they use in this supposed medieval world that, apparently, is not as medieval as it seems. With live broadcasts of adventurers in entire cities and an entertainment system very familiar to any of us, this anime manages to stand out at least with a mix of the typical ancient and fantastic world with modern elements and advanced technology. Otherwise, there is not much more to talk about, as its plot revolves mostly around the birth of the new team of adventurers and their path to fame and recognition thanks to Yuke and his adventuring companions.
This type of fantasy anime of adventurers, groups and dungeons in medieval worlds is common within this genre as well; though not as common as the classic hero anime or the Isekais, even. While it doesn't offer a story we don't already know, this anime is enjoyable to watch as it doesn't have many common clichés such as fanservice or the awkward moments or double-entendre jokes we all know. On the other hand, the animation of this series is not the best in this top, but it does manage to demonstrate an excellent work in terms of style, drawings, character designs, varied and bright color palette, attractive visual effects and good sound effects. Of course, what this may lack would be fluidity in terms of fight or combat animation, but it still manages to be more entertaining than other generic fantasy anime. However, it's not a series I'd honestly go so far as to recommend, unless you're a big fan of the fantasy or adventure genre.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 as far as the fantasy genre is concerned.

Hablemos ahora de un anime de fantasía que también ha pasado desapercibido esta temporada debido a lo genérico que aparenta ser. Esta vez no se centra en un protagonista convirtiéndose en héroe o en busca de venganza, sino de un equipo de aventureros donde el único chico es el protagonista, evidentemente. Basada en la homónima serie de novelas ligeras escrita por Kōsuke Unagi e ilustrada por Super Zombie, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Bandai Namco Pictures. La serie nos relata la historia de Yuke, un Mago Rojo y miembro de uno de los grupos de aventureros más famosos del gremio. Este es despreciado y humillado constantemente por sus compañeros, además de ser llamado un inútil a pesar de que su ayuda y habilidades hacen que su grupo tenga éxito casi siempre. Un día, después de 5 años, Yuke se cansa de tanta humillación y abandona el grupo. Siendo de Rango A, este logra unirse a un grupo nuevo y de bajo rango conformado por sus ex-estudiantes.
Dejando de lado el tema de los héroes que ya me tienen cansado, este anime parece contarnos la historia de un pequeño grupo de aventureros que, liderados por un talentoso mago (nuestro protagonista), logran realizar diversas misiones e ir de aventuras por el mundo yendo de mazmorra en mazmorra y venciendo monstruos y enemigos de todo tipo. También podemos notar detalles interesantes respecto a la tecnología o medios que utilizan en este supuesto mundo medieval que, por lo visto, no es tan medieval como parece. Con transmisiones en directo de aventureros en ciudades enteras y un sistema de entretenimiento muy familiar para cualquiera de nosotros, este anime logra destacarse al menos con una mezcla del típico mundo antiguo y fantástico con elementos modernos y tecnología avanzada. De resto, no hay mucho más de qué hablar, ya que su trama gira mayormente en el nacimiento del nuevo equipo de aventureros y su camino hacia la fama y el reconocimiento gracias a Yuke y sus compañeras de aventuras.
Este tipo de animes de fantasía de aventureros, grupos y mazmorras en mundos medievales es común también dentro de este género; aunque no tanto como los clásicos animes de héroes o los Isekais, incluso. Si bien no ofrece una historia que no conozcamos ya, es disfrutable ver este anime ya que no posee muchos clichés comunes como el fanservice o los momentos incómodos o chistes de doble sentido que todos conocemos. Por otro lado, la animación que tiene esta serie no viene siendo la mejor de este top, pero sí consigue demostrar un excelente trabajo en cuanto a estilo, dibujos, diseños de personajes, paleta de colores variados y brillantes, efectos visuales atractivos y buenos efectos de sonido. Claro está, lo que puede faltarle a esto sería la fluidez en cuanto a animación de peleas o combates, pero aún así logra ser más entretenido que otros animes de fantasía genéricos. Sin embargo, no es una serie que sinceramente llegue a recomendar, a menos que sean un gran fan del género de fantasía o de aventura.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía.

We end this top with the only fantasy anime that became regularly popular among all of them in this list, either because of its animation studio in charge or because of its fandom dedicated to pay homage to this work for various reasons that I am completely unaware of. Based on the series of light novels bearing the same name, written by Mayo Kousaka and illustrated by Gaou, this anime adaptation was produced by the famous CloverWorks studio (known for animating popular series such as The Promise Neverland, Spy x Family or Wind Breaker). The anime revolves around the life of Alina Clover, a seemingly simple receptionist at a well-known adventurer's guild where she feels safe and at peace with her normal schedule and salary. However, what no one knows is that she is actually a mysterious adventurer with a very powerful ability that helps her to defeat any Floor Boss of any dungeon in a few seconds, only if she sees that with this she can avoid having overtime at her job.
If we're talking about original fantasy anime, well... you could say that this one in particular is, at least with its eye-catching plot, really. I mean, normally we're used to seeing anime where the protagonist is always looking to be the best of all, the hero, the savior, the avenger, etc. But to see a protagonist trying not to draw attention to himself and have an ordinary, quiet life is something you don't often see in this industry. Well, who am I kidding, yes it is common within the Shōnen demographic, but many times these anime always focus on male protagonists and action works. Another striking detail is that, that in this series the protagonist is a girl, which I do not know if it is just a cheap strategy that the creator of the work invented to draw the attention of the teenage audience (considering the fanservice it has) or simply to make the difference between their competition in this industry. Whatever it is, we have to admit that it achieved its purpose by being animated by a studio like CloverWorks.
Its plot is entertaining, although it seems to trace a sequence of events in which irony is the protagonist, with Alina always seeking to have a quiet life as a receptionist while some problem always occurs that affects her peace and quiet, besides putting at stake her anonymity as the framed and powerful adventurer of the city. Bueno, a quién engaño, sí es común dentro de la demografía Shōnen, pero muchas veces estos animes siempre se enfocan en protagonistas masculinos y obras de acción. Otro detalle llamativo es ese, que en esta serie el protagonista es una chica, lo cual no sé si es solo una estrategia barata que se inventó el creador de la obra para llamar la atención del público adolescente (teniendo en cuenta el fanservice que tiene) o simplemente para hacer la diferencia entre su competencia en esta industria. Por último, hablando de la animación, sinceramente esperaba algo mejor por parte de uno de los estudios más famosos de la última década.
