Hello, anime fans. Tonight I bring you another top list, but this time with five action anime that I watched last year and consider to be the best. That's right, now it's time for one of the most popular and commercial genres in this industry. Action is something we see a lot in almost every season and among the most watched and acclaimed works as well. The past year was no exception, hosting such highly anticipated sequels as the fourth season of Kimetsu no Yaiba, the seventh season of Boku no Hero, and the second season of MASHLE. We even saw the return of one of the greatest series in anime history, Dragon Ball with Daima.
However, as I have mentioned in my previous TOPs, in this article we will not talk about these famous series. Instead, I will mention action anime that aired for the first time last year and impressed me enough to consider them now. I remind you that I rate these anime from 1 to 10, starting with the lowest rating and ending with the highest rating. What you will read below is only my honest opinion. Also, I have already reviewed all the anime you will see below, so that is why you will see their names linked. I hope this top list helps you find the next action anime you would like to watch.

Hola, fanáticos del anime. Esta noche les traigo un top más, pero esta vez con cinco animes del género de acción que he visto el año pasado y que considero son los mejores. Así es, ahora le toca a uno de los principales géneros más populares y comerciales de esta industria. La acción es algo que vemos mucho en casi todas las temporadas y entre las obras más vistas y aclamadas también. El pasado 2024 no fue la excepción, siendo ese año la anfitriona de continuaciones tan esperadas como lo fue la cuarta temporada de Kimetsu no Yaiba, la séptima temporada de Boku no Hero y la segunda temporada de MASHLE. Incluso vimos el regreso de una de las series más grandes de toda la historia del anime, como lo es Dragon Ball con Daima.
Sin embargo, como ya he mencionado en mis anteriores TOPs, en este artículo no hablaremos sobre estas series famosas. Sino que mencionaré animes de acción que se emitieron por primera vez el año pasado y me llegaron a impactar bastante, tanto como para tenerlas en cuenta ahora. Les recuerdo que yo califico estos animes del 1 al 10, empezando por el de menor calificación y finalizando con el de mayor calificación. Lo que leerán a continuación será solamente mi más sincera opinión. También, todos los animes que verán a continuación ya les he hecho una reseña antes en su momento, así que por eso verán sus nombres enlazados. Let's start with an action anime that is undoubtedly the least popular on this list. And this is not surprising, as it is an adaptation of a South Korean manhwa that surely no one has read before. However, it is one of those Korean works that—following the success of Solo Leveling last year—were chosen to reach a wider audience. Based on the webtoon of the same name written by Taejun Pak and illustrated by Kim Junghyun, this 12-episode animated adaptation was produced by Okuruto Noboru studio. The anime tells the story of young Hobin Yoo, an ordinary high school student who is bullied at school and constantly humiliated on the internet. One day, he decides to make videos for his NewTube channel so he can earn money and help his mother.
Yes, with its plot and lack of popularity, you're probably wondering why I chose it as one of the best action anime of 2024. The answer is simple: because of its plot and character development. Although it is one of those anime series adapted from a Korean work that does not attract much attention and has a humor and style that is somewhat familiar in this industry, Viral Hit manages to stand out by bringing us a protagonist who is the opposite of what we usually see in action movies and series today. And not only that, but the way he is presented to us from the beginning makes it easy to empathize with him. On the other hand, there is his story, which revolves around the life of our high school student who has constantly been bullied in the past, trying to face enemies ten times stronger than him with tricks he sees in NewTube (YouTube) videos, all in order to make a popular video, get views, and earn money. This mix of fights with humor and some drama is what I like most about this anime.
Apart from this, as I mentioned above, the way this anime develops its characters is also quite interesting. Starting with the protagonist, who, with only his desire to help his mother who is in the hospital, manages to do everything possible to earn a lot of money quickly. There are also some secondary characters who interact with him and who also have their moment of development and redemption. An entertaining, enjoyable, and action-packed anime. In this regard, let's talk about the audiovisual aspects, which are very well done. Starting with the drawing style, the character design, the use of visual effects for movements, blows, twists, etc. There are also well-done sound effects and a soundtrack that hooks you, excites you, and enhances every moment with a euphoria that you feel from beginning to end. This is one of those anime series that, once you start watching, you can't stop until the end.

Empecemos con un anime de acción que, sin duda alguna, es el menos popular de esta lista. Y esto no es de extrañar al ser la adaptación de un manwha surcoreano que seguramente nadie ha leído antes. Sin embargo, es de esas obras coreanas que -posterior al éxito que tuvo Solo Leveling el mismo año pasado-, fueron escogidas para llegar a un público más amplio. Basada en el homónimo webtoon escrito por Taejun Pak e ilustrado por Kim Junghyun, esta adaptación animada de 12 episodios fue producida por el estudio Okuruto Noboru. El anime nos relata la vida del joven Hobin Yoo, un estudiante común de preparatoria que sufre de bullying en su escuela y es constantemente humillado a la vez por internet. Un día, este decide realizar videos para su canal de NewTube y así poder ganar dinero y ayudar a su mamá.
Si, con su trama y poca popularidad seguramente te estarás preguntando por qué lo escogí como uno de los mejores animes de acción del 2024. La respuesta es simple: por su trama y el desarrollo de sus personajes. Si bien es de esos animes adaptados de una obra coreana que no llaman mucho la atención y posee un humor y un estilo un tanto conocido en esta industria; Viral Hit logra destacarse al traernos a un protagonista que es todo lo contrario a lo que habitualmente vemos en películas y series de acción en la actualidad. Y no es solo eso, sino que la forma en la que nos lo presentan desde el inicio hace que sea fácil poder empatizar con él. Por otro lado, está su historia, la cual gira en torno a la vida de nuestro estudiante de preparatoria que constantemente ha recibido bullying en su pasado intentando enfrentarse a enemigos diez veces más fuertes que él con trucos que ve en videos de NewTube (YouTube); todo esto con tal de hacer un video popular, recibir visitas y ganar dinero. Esta mezcla de peleas con humor y algo de drama es lo que más me gusta de este anime.
Aparte de esto, como ya les mencioné arriba, la forma que tiene este anime de desarrollar a sus personajes es un tanto interesante también. Empezando por el protagonista, quien con solo su deseo de ayudar a su mamá que se encuentra hospitalizada, consigue hacer lo posible para ganar bastante dinero de manera rápida. También están algunos personajes secundarios que se relacionan con él y que también tienen su momento de desarrollo y redención. Un anime entretenido, agradable y repleto de acción. Con respecto a esto, hablemos de lo audiovisual, siendo esto un trabajo muy bien realizado. Empezando por el estilo de dibujo, el diseño de los personajes, el uso de los efectos visuales de movimientos, golpes, giros, etc. También están los efectos de sonidos bien hechos y una banda sonora que engancha, emociona y enaltece cada momento con una euforia que se siente de principio a fin. Este es de esos animes que, al empezar, no puedes parar de verlo hasta el final.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de la acción.

We take a leap into action with an anime that became popular last year when it aired. It's one of the best anime I've seen and offers the most old-school action, i.e., pure punches and kicks. An anime about street fighting that managed to get a second season (which is about to finish airing at the time of writing this post). Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Satoru Nii, this animated adaptation was produced by the CloverWorks studio. The anime tells the story of Sakura Hakura, a young man who has just moved to a neighborhood protected by the members of the Fûrin Institute, who are pure rebels who only think about fighting. Ironically, our protagonist also likes to fight; in fact, he is seeking to become the strongest of them all.
This is one of those anime series where the first thing that catches your attention is the fight sequences, which we see quite a lot of right at the beginning and in the first episode. Although this type of action series is not very popular in this industry, there is no denying a notable increase in works with a similar plot. Likewise, for those who are fans of Tokyo Revenger and like the theme of street fighting, this anime is perfect for you. However, when it comes down to it, Wind Breaker becomes a bit dramatic in certain episodes. Starting with the way the characters are developed, there is a curious mix of action and comedy, but there is also some drama between the good guys and the supposed bad guys. Mind you, I'm not saying I don't like this, as I'm a fan of works with good character development. It's just that seeing drama in the middle of a fight sometimes tends to dampen the mood a little.
Otherwise, I think both the story and the characters are very well done. From the beginning, the protagonist draws a lot of attention and manages to make us feel a little familiar with him. There are also the secondary characters who have their own thing going on. But what stands out the most, without a doubt, is the action in this anime. This is where CloverWorks works its magic with impressive animation quality in terms of detail, drawings, character design, animation, and fluidity. The excellent use of visual effects, movements, 120-degree turns, and perfectly executed choreography is also top-notch. The same can be said for the sound effects, which don't stand out as much as the soundtrack. In this regard, I believe it achieves its goal of heightening the excitement of each fight to its peak. In short, this is an action anime that I highly recommend watching.

Damos un salto en lo que es la acción con un anime que se popularizó el año pasado junto con su emisión. De los mejores animes que he visto y que más acción ha ofrecido a la vieja escuela, es decir, a puros golpes y patadas. Un anime de peleas callejeras que no por nada consiguió sacar hasta una segunda temporada (la cual está por terminarse de emitir al momento de escribir este post). Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Satoru Nii, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio CloverWorks. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Sakura Hakura, quien es un joven que recién se acaba de mudar en un barrio que está protegida por los miembros del instituto Fûrin, quienes son puros tipos rebeldes que solo piensan en peleas. Irónicamente, a nuestro protagonista también le gusta pelear, es más, está en busca de ser el más fuerte de todos.
Este es de esos animes que lo primero que te llama la atención son sus secuencias de peleas, algo que justo al principio y en su primer episodio podemos ver bastante. Si bien este tipo de series de acción no es muy popular en esta industria, no hay que negar un incremento notable de obras que tienen una trama parecida. Igualmente, para los que son fans de Tokio Revenger y les gusta el tema de las peleas callejeras, este anime es perfecto para ustedes. Solo que, al momento de la verdad, Wind Breaker llega a ser un tanto dramático en ciertos capítulos. Empezando por la manera de desarrollar a sus personajes, es notable una mezcla curiosa de acción y comedia, pero también hay algo de drama entre los que son buenos y los que supuestamente son malos. Ojo, no digo que esto no me guste, ya que soy fan de las obras con buenos desarrollos de personajes. Solo que ver drama en medio de una pelea a veces tiende a bajar un poco los ánimos.
De resto, considero que tanto su historia como sus personajes están muy bien hechos. Desde el principio el protagonista llama bastante la atención y logra hacer que nos familiaricemos un poco con él. También están los personajes secundarios quienes tienen lo suyo. Pero lo que más se destaca, indudablemente, es la acción que tiene este anime. Es aquí donde CloverWorks hace su magia con una calidad de animación impresionante en cuanto a detalles, dibujos, diseño de personajes, animación y fluidez. También el uso excelente de efectos visuales, movimientos, giros de 120 grados y coreografías perfectamente hechas es de lo mejor. Lo mismo se puede decir de los efectos de sonido, los cuales no destacan tanto como su banda sonora. En cuanto a esto considero que logra su objetivo de elevar la emoción del momento en cada pelea hasta su punto máximo. En fin, este es un anime de acción que recomiendo ver, la verdad.

Kaiju No. 8
Let's talk now about a curious combination of action and science fiction that, of course, caught my attention right from the start. An anime that became one of the most eagerly awaited releases last year, as well as one of the future "promises of shōnen" today. Highly praised for its audiovisual aspects, as well as its story and characters. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, this animated adaptation was produced by Production I.G. The anime tells the story of Hibino Kafka, a man in his 30s who is resigned to working to clean up the remains of the dead bodies of monsters that are exterminated by a special combat team from Japan. However, after an accident with a parasite, he gains a power that will help him fulfill his dreams of fighting Kaijus... by becoming one himself.
This is one of those anime series that is worth watching because, from the beginning, you can see that it has a good story, good characters, and a special mix of action, comedy, and science fiction. I like the Kaiju theme because there are very few works today that are interested in reviving this old subgenre. That's why the idea of a protagonist who—apart from not being the typical strong young man—gains the power to become a Kaiju is one of the most striking things this story has to offer. And it's even better when they add action in a way that looks simply spectacular, with scenes and battles that are simply unforgettable. It's not just the protagonist, but also some of the secondary characters who stand out quite well in battles against monsters of all kinds.
Another interesting point to mention is the way in which our protagonist comes to face the consequences of his actions. In other words, it's not one of those works where the protagonist does whatever he wants and nothing happens or he is always forgiven because he is who he is. Here, it's the opposite, and I think that's the best way to develop him and how he can use that power for good. It also has its humor, as I mentioned, which is neither bad nor exaggerated. The same goes for the fanservice, which is almost non-existent, to be honest. In terms of audiovisuals, this may be the best this anime has to offer. The animation style, although partly criticized for the design of some characters, manages to be as detailed, natural, and fluid as possible. The use of visual effects, lighting, and CGI is quite remarkable, but in a good way. On the other hand, its soundtrack manages to excite and add drama and feeling to every moment. This is an action anime that is also worth keeping in mind.

Hablemos ahora de una curiosa combinación de acción y ciencia ficción que, por supuesto, me llamó muchísimo la atención desde un comienzo. Un anime que llegó a ser de los más esperados a emitirse el año pasado, además de ser una de las futuras “promesas del shōnen” de la actualidad. Altamente elogiada por su apartado audiovisual, así como también por su historia y personajes. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Naoya Matsumoto, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Production I.G. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Hibino Kafka, un hombre que ya en sus 30s está resignado a trabajar para limpiar los restos de los cuerpos muertos de los monstruos que son exterminados por un equipo de combate especial de Japón. Sin embargo, luego de un accidente con un parásito, este obtiene un poder que lo ayudará a cumplir con sus sueños de pelear contra Kaijus… transformándose en uno.
Este es de esos animes que valen la pena ver ya que, desde el principio, se puede notar una buena historia como también buenos personajes y una mezcla especial de acción con comedia y ciencia ficción. El tema de los Kaijus es algo que me gusta ya que en la actualidad hay muy pocas obras que están interesadas en revivir este antiguo subgénero. Es por eso que la idea de un protagonista que -a parte no es para nada el típico joven y fuerte de siempre- obtiene el poder de convertirse en un Kaijū es de lo más llamativo que tiene esta historia para ofrecer. Y mejor es cuando a esto le añaden acción de una forma que se ve simplemente espectacular con escenas y batallas que simplemente son difíciles de olvidar. No solo está el protagonista, sino también algunos de los personajes secundarios quienes se destacan bastante bien en batallas contra monstruos de todo tipo.
Otro punto interesante a mencionar es la forma en la que nuestro protagonista llega a enfrentarse ante las consecuencias de sus acciones. Es decir, no es de esas obras en las que el protagonista hace lo que le da la gana y no pasa nada o siempre queda perdonado por ser él. Aquí es todo lo contrario y considero que es lo mejor para darle un buen desarrollo al mismo y a cómo puede utilizar dicho poder para el bien. También tiene su humor, como ya mencioné, lo cual no está mal ni exagerado tampoco. Lo mismo sucede con el fanservice que casi ni tiene, la verdad. En cuanto a lo audiovisual puede que sea lo mejor que tiene este anime para ofrecer. El estilo de animación, si bien fue en parte criticado por el diseño de algunos personajes, consigue ser lo más detallado, natural y fluido posible. El uso de los efectos visuales, las luces y el CGI es bastante notable, pero en un buen sentido. Por otro lado, su banda sonora consigue emocionar y darle drama y sentimiento a cada momento. Este es un anime de acción que está bien tenerlo en cuenta también.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de la acción y ciencia ficción.

Ninja Kamui
Let's continue with an anime that promised a lot and managed to deliver on most of it. A series packed with action, blood, fights, and revenge in true ninja style, combining the modern with the classic. While its success was not comparable to that of other works such as those I have already mentioned and will mention below, it does have a fairly remarkable level of production and development. Ninja Kamui is an original animated series produced by E&H Production and Sola Entertainment. It tells the story of Joe Higan, a former ninja and fugitive who has been hiding from his clan for years with his current partner and young son. However, one night they are ambushed by a group of armed assassins while they sleep, and his wife and son are killed before his eyes. From there, a wave of revenge and murder ensues as a result.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that what hooked me on this anime was its first episode (I don't know if I've said this before, but anyway). It's one of the best episodes I've ever seen in an anime, which, to top it all off, is original and action-packed with ninjas made for Adult Swim. Both its audiovisual aspect and its plot and characters are so well done that it's hard not to watch one episode without wanting to continue with more. The theme of revenge is handled in a very well-constructed way, with a protagonist who is practically a John Wick, but a ninja. His past, the process he goes through when he loses his loved ones, and all the lives he takes in a series of fights and confrontations are wonderful. And it's not just the protagonist, but also the other characters who manage to perform well and show us different faces of evil, cruelty, cunning, and human intelligence.
There was a time when I watched this anime along with Solo Leveling in the same season and considered it the best in the action genre, but now I don't think so. Despite its excellent battles, fight sequences, and displays of power and brute force driven by hatred and revenge, there are certain details worth mentioning in terms of its audiovisual aspect. Everything is fine and excellent in terms of animation, drawing style, character design, fluidity, dark color palette, and visual effects. But what I didn't like about this anime, without a doubt, is the CGI. The use of computer-generated 3D animation for certain weapon fights and even costumes or equipment is something I didn't like about this series. And I know it's not a matter of life and death, but I can't help but notice those things. Although, well, the soundtrack makes up for it a bit with the opening music, as well as the background music at certain moments. An anime worth watching if you're a fan of revenge stories.

Continuemos con un anime que prometía mucho y llegó a cumplir con la mayor parte. Una serie repleta de acción, sangre, peleas y venganza al puro estilo ninja con una combinación de lo moderno con lo clásico. Si bien su éxito no fue equiparable al de otras obras como las que ya les he mencionado y les mencionaré a continuación, sí tiene un nivel de producción y desarrollo bastante destacables. Ninja Kamui no es más que una serie animada original producida por E&H Production y Sola Entertainment. La misma cuenta la historia de Joe Higan, un ex-ninja y fugitivo que ha estado escondiéndose de su clan por años junto con su actual pareja y su hijo pequeño. Sin embargo, una noche son emboscados por un grupo de asesinos armados mientras duermen y consiguen quitarle la vida a su esposa y su hijo frente a sus ojos. A partir de ahí, se desata una ola de venganza y asesinatos como consecuencia de esto.
No exagero cuando digo que lo que me enganchó de este anime fue su primer episodio (no sé si lo he dicho ya antes, pero bueno). Y es que es de los mejores episodios que he visto de un anime, que para colmo es original y de acción con ninjas hecho para Adult Swim. Tanto su aspecto audiovisual como también su trama y personajes están tan bien hechos que es difícil no ver un episodio sin querer continuar con más. El tema de la venganza es algo que se maneja de una forma muy bien construida y con un protagonista que es prácticamente un John Wick, pero ninja. Su pasado, el proceso que pasa al perder a sus seres queridos y todas las vidas que elimina en una serie de peleas y enfrentamientos son una maravilla. Y no solo es el protagonista, sino también los demás personajes quienes consiguen desenvolverse bien y darnos diferentes rostros de lo que es la maldad, la crueldad, la astucia y la inteligencia humana.
Hubo un tiempo en el que ví este anime junto con Solo Leveling en una misma temporada y la consideré la mejor del género de acción, pero ahora no pienso igual. Y es que, a pesar de sus excelentes batallas, secuencias de peleas y demostraciones de poder y fuerza bruta impulsados por odio y venganza; hay ciertos detalles a mencionar en cuanto a su aspecto audiovisual. Todo está bien y excelente en cuanto a animación, estilo de dibujo, diseño de personajes, fluidez, paleta de colores oscuros y efectos visuales. Pero lo que no me gustó de este anime, sin lugar a dudas, es el CGI. Ese uso de la animación en 3D hecha por computadora para ciertos combates con armas y hasta trajes o equipos es algo que no me gustó de esta serie. Y sé que no es algo de vida o muerte, pero no puedo simplemente evitar fijarme en esas cosas. Aunque, bueno, su banda sonora lo compensa un poco con la música de opening que tiene, además de la música de fondo en ciertos momentos. Un anime que vale la pena ver si eres fan de las historias de venganzas.

Solo Leveling
We end this list with what, in my opinion, is the best action anime I saw last year. Which is curious, since it is now one of the most popular anime series in recent times, as well as being the most watched on streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, for example. It's no secret that Solo Leveling was so wildly successful that it's hard not to come across a review or critique of this work anywhere on the internet. Based on the South Korean webtoon of the same name written by Chugong, this animated adaptation was produced by A-1 Pictures. The anime tells the story of Sung Jin-woo, a young hunter with the lowest rank of all who tries to survive by taking on low-level missions in which he barely survives. However, after a traumatic series of events in a mysterious dungeon, he gets the opportunity to become stronger every day.
I've already talked a lot about this anime recently with its second season, which was a huge success this year. But in 2024, it was nothing more than a series with a premise that attracted a lot of attention, especially with its first episode. Then, with each episode, we saw how the protagonist, being the weakest of all, began to become stronger and stronger by completing missions, hunting monsters, conquering dungeons, or simply doing his exercise routine (which, until recently, I didn't know was similar to Saitama's routine, what a reference). In short, despite its predictable plot after the beginning and a super strong protagonist who ultimately becomes almost invincible, there is no denying that the journey he takes from the beginning is worth watching. Yes, it ends with several of the most common clichés of the action genre, but at least we can see the development process, which is no small thing.
When it comes to entertainment, the audiovisual aspect must always be taken into account, as this is the only strong point and the most outstanding feature of this anime gem. And there's no denying that several of the best battles and fights that have been broadcast in 2024 came from this great action and fantasy anime. The animation style, character design, color palette, lighting and shadows, visual effects such as explosions, and fight choreography are all top-notch. Visually, there is nothing that falls short with such a high level of quality. Best of all, there is very little or almost no CGI used in this anime, so now you know why I put it in this position. The sound effects and soundtrack are also top-notch, achieving their goals and elevating everything, with well-set scenes and background music at moments that are simply epic. Without a doubt, this anime is worth watching, despite its clichés.

Finalizamos este top con el que, para mí, es el mejor anime de acción que he visto el año pasado. Lo cual es curioso ya que es ahora de los animes más populares de los últimos tiempos, además de ser el más visto en plataformas de streaming como Crunchyroll, por ejemplo. Y es que no es un secreto para nadie el hecho de que Solo Leveling tuvo un éxito tan desmedido que es difícil no encontrarse con una reseña o una crítica hacia esta obra en cualquier parte de internet. Basada en la webtoon surcoreana homónima escrita por Chugong, esta adaptación animada fue producida por A-1 Pictures. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Sung Jin-woo, un joven cazador con el rango más bajo de todos que intenta sobrevivir a costa de misiones de bajo rango en los que apenas y sobrevive. Sin embargo, luego de una traumática serie de eventos en una misteriosa mazmorra, este obtiene la oportunidad de volverse más fuerte cada día.
Ya he hablado mucho de este anime hace poco con su segunda temporada, la cual fue todo un éxito este año. Pero en el 2024 no fue más que una serie con una premisa que llamaba mucho la atención, sobre todo con su primer episodio. Si, termina con varios de los clichés más comunes del género de acción, pero al menos podemos ver dicho proceso de desarrollo que para nada es poco.
En cuanto a entretener se refiere siempre se debe de tomar en cuenta el aspecto audiovisual, siendo este su único punto fuerte y el más resaltante de esta joya de anime. Y no hay que negar que de las mejores batallas y peleas que se han emitido en el pasado 2024, varias salieron de este grandioso anime de acción y fantasía. El estilo de animación, el diseño de los personajes, la paleta de colores, luces y sombras, los efectos visuales como las explosiones y las coreografías en los combates son de lo mejor. Visualmente no hay nada que no quede mal parado con tal nivel de calidad. Y lo mejor de todo es que es muy poco o casi nada lo que se usa de CGI en este anime, así que ya saben por qué lo coloqué en este puesto. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora son también de lo mejor, logrando sus objetivos y elevando todo, con escenarios muy bien ambientados y con música de fondo en momentos que son simplemente épicos a más no poder. Sin duda alguna, este anime vale la pena verlo con todo y sus clichés.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de la acción y la fantasía.
