Hello, anime fans. Let's get started with what appears to be the last TOP list I'll be doing for this summer season. This time, I've saved the best for last, or well, at least what many of you will surely consider to be "the best". That's right, I'm talking about the action genre, the one that has taken the anime industry to every corner of the world. Misunderstood as "Shōnen" in general, animated action works are the most acclaimed, popular, and exploited that exist. That's why, today, it's difficult to find an action anime that has something original and interesting to offer. But don't worry, that's why I'm here.
I'll talk about several revivals of modern works in this genre that became quite popular last year, as well as mention a few new works that are generating a lot of buzz today. As you may already know, I rate each anime from 1 to 10. The list below will start with the lowest rating and end with the highest rating. Also, don't forget that what you're about to read is only my sincere and personal opinion. Malinterpretada como “Shōnen” en general, las obras animadas de acción son las más aclamadas, populares y explotadas que existen. Es por eso que, al día de hoy, es difícil encontrar un anime de acción que tenga algo original e interesante para ofrecer. Pero no te preocupes, que para eso estoy yo aquí.
Hablaré de varios regresos de obras modernas de este género que se popularizaron bastante el año pasado, así como también mencionaré una que otra obra nueva que está dando muchísimo de qué hablar al día de hoy. Como ya sabrán, yo califico cada anime del 1 al 10. La lista que verán a continuación empezará con el de menor calificación y terminará con el de mayor calificación. Tampoco se olviden que lo que leerán a continuación será solamente mi más sincera y única opinión. Tal vez a más de uno le disguste ver qué anime dejé para el final, pero no se preocupen, eso no le resta valor a las otras obras de esta lista.

Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood
Let's start this TOP list with an anime that is literally the perfect representation of the generic and clichéd elements found in the action genre of this industry. A very unoriginal work with many details that make it the worst of this summer season. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yura Urishibara, this animated adaptation was produced by Studio Hibari. The anime tells the story of Shiki Ichinose, an irresponsible teenager and lover of firearms who lives with his adoptive father, Tsuyoshi. One day, Shiki receives an unexpected visit from a man dressed in white who seeks to end his life. He says that Shiki is an Oni and that he is a natural enemy of the Momotaro (Oni Hunters).
You know what? Let's not dwell too much on the plot of this anime. It's not that interesting anyway. It's pretty much the same old story of two enemy sides that have been fighting each other for generations, and the protagonist is destined to end the war while fulfilling his revenge and blah, blah, blah. We see battles, blood, lots of blood (made by CGI), bad people who are supposedly good, and good people who are supposedly bad. Predefined secondary characters, extensive and tireless combat, and girls who are exaggeratedly oversexualized to the point of absurdity. Fetishes hidden among sex jokes, teenage humor, and little else.
But the worst thing of all is not what I just told you, but the animation itself, which is the worst I've seen this season and in my entire life. Without exaggerating, I detest the use of CGI, and it's what's used most in this action piece, especially in battles where it seems like the animators were afraid to pick up a pencil and draw instead of using 3D animation to give the characters "fluidity". Honestly, it's one of the worst low-budget adaptations I've ever seen. Nothing is spared, not even the generic character designs, the static shots, the usual sound effects—sometimes poorly added—and a soundtrack that I don't like at all. In short, it's the worst anime of the season.
Personally, I give it a rating of 3/10 in terms of the action genre.

Empecemos este TOP con un anime que, literalmente, es la representación perfecta de lo genérico y cliché que se puede encontrar en el género de acción de esta industria. Una obra muy poco original y con muchos detalles que la hacen la peor de esta temporada de verano. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Yura Urishibara, esta adaptación animada fue producida por Studio Hibari. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Shiki Ichinose, un adolescente irresponsable y amante de las armas de fuego que vive con su padre adoptivo, Tsuyoshi. Un día, Shiki recibe la inesperada visita de un hombre vestido de blanco que busca acabar con su vida. Él dice que Shiki es un Oni y que es un enemigo natural de los Momotaro (Cazadores de Oni).

Vemos batallas, sangre, mucha sangre (hecha por CGI), gente mala que supuestamente es buena y gente buena que supuestamente son los malos. Personajes secundarios predefinidos, combates extensos e incansables y chicas exageradamente sobre-sexualizadas hasta más no poder. Fetiches escondidos entre chistes de sexo, humor de adolescentes y poco más.
Pero lo peor de todo no es lo que acabo de contarles, sino la animación en sí que es de lo peor que he visto en esta temporada y en toda mi vida. Sin exagerar, detesto el uso del CGI y es de lo que más se utiliza en esta obra de acción, especialmente en batallas donde pareciera que los animadores les diera miedo agarrar un lápiz y dibujar en vez de usar la animación en 3D para darle “fluidez” a los personajes. De las peores adaptaciones con poco presupuesto que he visto en mi vida, la verdad. Nada se salva, ni los diseños genéricos de los personajes, los planos fijos y estáticos, los efectos de sonido de siempre -y mal agregados a veces- y una banda sonora que no me termina de agradar en lo absoluto. El peor anime de la temporada, en resumen.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 3/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción.

Sakamoto Days (Part 2)
Let's raise the bar a little with the return of one of the action anime series that has entertained me the most this year. That's right, I'm talking about Sakamoto Days, a work loved by many and criticized by a few. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki, this animated adaptation was produced by the famous studio TMS Entertainment. The anime tells the story of Taro Sakamoto, a former hitman who decided to trade his life of murder for a normal life with a wife, daughter, and business. However, one day he receives a visit from old colleagues, along with enemies who are out to kill him. In this second part, we'll see Sakamoto face off against ex-convicts, assassins, and dangerous organizations.
This is an anime that, despite being entertaining and having a lot of action and impeccable humor, has been quite underrated recently due to the criticism it has received and the competition. Many fans who were expecting an adaptation that would "do justice to the work" were disappointed with what TMS Entertainment offered them. And honestly, I don't understand how you can hate an adaptation so much for not being what you expected. Because, for me, Sakamoto Days is a good anime. It doesn't have the animation of Spy x Family, far from it, but that doesn't mean it's a bad adaptation. Its style and effects are... different, which is noticeable, but it's not like it lacks quality.
I honestly think that the current generation has a view of reality that is completely opposite to what it is. I also think that comparing one anime to another when they are two completely different works is absurd. Sakamoto Days delivers a simple story, well-constructed characters, and entertaining and very dynamic action scenes. It may not have the best animation in the world, but it does a good job with character design, visual details, color palette, effects, movement styles, and so on. It also has good sound effects and a very good soundtrack, especially its opening. Here you have an action anime that is definitely worth watching.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 in terms of the action and comedy genre.

Sinceramente pienso que la generación de ahora tiene una visión de la realidad completamente opuesta a lo que es. También que el tema de comparar un anime con otro cuando son dos obras completamente distintas es algo absurdo. Sakamoto Days cumple con darnos una historia sencilla, personajes bien construidos y escenas de acción entretenidas y muy dinámicas. No tendrá la mejor animación del mundo, pero cumple con ofrecer un buen trabajo en el diseño de los personajes, los detalles visuales, la paleta de colores, los efectos y estilos de movimiento y demás. También tiene buenos efectos de sonido y una muy buena banda sonora, sobre todo su opening. Aquí tienen un anime de acción que sí vale la pena ver.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción y comedia.

Gachiakuta

The perfect blend of tragic story with action, comedy, and drama is fantastic. But not only that, it also has character development and an apocalyptic world that is most interesting. It also deals with controversial and profound issues such as class distinctions, domestic and social abuse, manipulation, and even messages of freedom and rebellion. What we see is not the typical hero's journey story, but the life of a young man who was exiled, betrayed, and abused since childhood.
Surely more than one of my readers will be interested in watching this anime, and I don't blame them. It is a unique gem of its kind that has attracted many of this generation. Right now, you have the opportunity to watch it while it continues to air for the next three months. But not content with that, this work has more to offer on an audiovisual level. The creator is, without exaggeration, one of the most talented and unique artists out there. The art style, the character design, the way graffiti is mixed with the power that is wielded in this world is some of the most creative I have ever seen. Bones, for its part, does not fall short and manages to perfectly recreate this work with impeccable animation, unsurpassed quality, and unbeatable details. The sound effects and soundtrack are top-notch. In short, it's an animated gem that I invite you to watch.

Entramos ya a las ligas mayores con un anime único en su estilo. Una obra que promete bastante, tanto que ya muchos la catalogan como una de las futuras promesas del shōnen de acción de esta nueva generación. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Kei Urana, esta adaptación animada está producida por el estudio Bones Film. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Rudo, un joven que vive en la parte más pobre de un lugar donde los ricos son los líderes, mientras que el resto es exiliado y tratado como basura. Un día, el hombre con quien fue criado es asesinado por un enmascarado que escapa y Rudo es culpado, llevándolo al destierro: lo lanzan por un barranco hacia “las profundidades” de la tierra.
Honestamente no estoy conforme con colocar este anime en este puesto del TOP. Desde lejos se nota que tiene un gran potencial para ser una de las mejores obras de acción y fantasía oscura que jamás he visto en mi vida. La mezcla perfecta que tiene de historia trágica con acción, comedia y drama es fantástica. Pero no solo eso, sino que posee una construcción de personajes y un mundo apocalíptico que es de lo más interesante. También se puede ver que trata temas polémicos y profundos como lo es la distinción de clases, el maltrato y abuso intrafamiliar y social, la manipulación y hasta mensajes de libertad y rebelión. Lo que vemos no es la típica historia del camino de héroe y todo eso, sino la vida de un joven que fue desterrado, traicionado y maltratado desde pequeño.
Seguramente más de uno de los que me leen estará interesado en ver este anime y no los culpo, es una joya única entre su tipo que ha causado que muchos de esta generación se sintieran atraídos por ella. Ahora mismo tienen oportunidad de verla mientras sigue en emisión durante los siguientes tres meses. Pero no contentos con eso, esta obra tiene más que ofrecer a nivel audiovisual. La creadora es, sin exagerar, una de las artistas más talentosas y únicas que hay. El estilo de arte, el diseño de los personajes, la forma de mezclar el graffiti con el poder que se maneja en este mundo es de lo más creativo que he visto. Bones, por su lado, no se queda corto y consigue recrear de forma perfecta dicha obra con una animación impecable, calidad insuperable y detalles inmejorables. Sus efectos de sonido y banda sonora son de lo mejor. En fin, una joya animada que les invito a ver.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación incompleta de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de la acción y la fantasía oscura.

Kaiju No. 8 (2nd Season)

To be honest, I'm not entirely happy with how I've ranked these last three works in this TOP list. As you know, I'm not one to compare one work to another. And in this case, I admit that Kaiju No. 8 is one of the best action and science fiction anime I've seen in recent years. I'm not just saying that because of its impressive battles, but also because of the dynamic way in which it develops its characters and gives each one their due prominence. I also like that it has a nice touch of humor.
This second season was fantastic, with incredible moments, as well as moments of insurmountable tension and an ending that leaves you wanting more, which is a very good sign. I like how they reinvented the typical hero story by adding the kaiju theme and everything else. But beyond that, I really admire the good development they gave the protagonist, in particular. As for the animation, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Its quality is unbeatable, with very good character design, a vivid color palette, impressive visual effects, and well-added details. The sound effects are another strong point, as is the soundtrack, especially the opening theme. If you're a fan of kaijus, you have to watch this anime.

Yes, surely more than one of you is wondering why I placed this anime in this position in the TOP list. But to be honest, I have my reasons for doing so, and one of them is how much I enjoyed watching this anime. Describing Dandadan as a simple action shōnen could even be considered an insult, as this work has much more to offer than incredible fights and inexplicable power scales. As I mentioned before, what we see in this anime is an amalgam of action, comedy, science fiction, romance, and even supernatural elements. Not content with that, we have a plot that is entertaining to the max. I could talk about a thousand and one good things about this anime, but for now, I'll just say that it's a masterpiece.
I know that some will disagree with this because of its humor or the enormous amount of elements this anime has. But no one can deny that Dandadan manages to balance everything thanks to its characters. That is the strongest and main point of this work, its characters. The fact that we remember each one of them now and feel familiar with them in some way is an example of how well constructed they are. Of course, all of this has been perfectly conveyed thanks to Science Saru's incredible adaptation work. The animation, aesthetics, drawing style, varied color palette, lighting, shadows, fluidity, and visual details are top-notch. The sound effects are excellent too, but nothing compares to the soundtrack. In short, this is the anime I recommend you watch, without a doubt.

Pero nadie puede negar que Dandadan logra equilibrarlo todo gracias a sus personajes. Ese es el punto más fuerte y principal de esta obra, sus personajes. Y es que el recordarlos ahora a cada uno y el sentirnos familiarizados con ellos de alguna forma es un ejemplo de lo bien construidos que están. Por supuesto, todo esto se ha conseguido transmitir perfectamente gracias al increíble trabajo de adaptación de Science Saru. La animación, la estética, el estilo de dibujo, la paleta variada de colores, luces, sombras, la fluidez y los detalles visuales que tiene son de lo mejor. Los efectos de sonido son excelentes también, pero nada como su banda sonora. En fin, este es el anime que les recomiendo ver, sin duda alguna.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción, comedia romántica, ciencia ficción y sobrenatural.
