The Too-Perfect Saint | Nattosheru Review [ENG/SPA]

Once again, I don't quite remember why I didn't talk about this anime last year when I saw it on TV. Maybe it's because at that time I was already fed up with seeing so many generic fantasy anime, and that season didn't help at all with more similar shows. The plot itself isn't bad at all, and for a fantasy drama and romance story, it's quite enjoyable to watch, although it obviously has its notable flaws. In the end, it's just another work in an overexploited genre of this huge anime industry.

What hooked me at the time was definitely its premise, dealing with the tragic life of Philia Adenauer, who, since her appointment as Saint of the kingdom of Ziltonia, had to take on so many responsibilities at the same time. Being a skilled, powerful, and talented Saint, her job of protecting the kingdom from monsters and ruling it seems easy to do in the eyes of others. But no matter how "perfect" she is, there is one thing Philia is unable to do: smile. This makes her appear cold, unexpressive, and unfriendly to the public, but the reality is quite the opposite.

De nuevo, no recuerdo bien la razón del por qué no hablé de este anime en su momento el año pasado cuando lo ví en emisión. Tal vez y sea porque en aquel entonces ya estaba harto de ver tantos animes de fantasía genéricos y esa temporada no ayudó en lo absoluto con más emisiones similares. La trama como tal no está para nada mal y para ser una historia fantástica de drama y romance es bastante agradable de ver, aunque tiene sus defectos notables, obviamente. Al final, no es más que una obra más de un género sobreexplotado de esta enorme industria del anime.

Lo que me llegó a enganchar en su momento fue definitivamente su premisa al tratarse de la trágica vida de Philia Adenauer, quien desde su nombramiento como Santa del reino de Ziltonia, tuvo que responsabilizarse con tantas labores al mismo tiempo. Al ser una Santa hábil, poderosa y talentosa, su labor de proteger el reino de monstruos y dirigirlo parece fácil de hacer a la vista de los demás. Pero por muy “perfecta” que sea, hay algo que Philia no es capaz de hacer: sonreír. Esto la hace ver ante el público como alguien fría, poco expresiva y antipática, pero la realidad es todo lo contrario.

However, Philia Adenauer's life will undergo a drastic change when her own fiancé, the second prince of Ziltonia, Julius Ziltonia, decides to make a deal with her parents to sell her to the neighboring kingdom of Parnacorta. As Philia heads to her new home to fulfill the role of Saint in the kingdom of Parnacorta, Prince Julius informs his younger sister, Mia Adenauer, of the cancellation of his engagement and Philia's disappearance. At that moment, Julius asks Mia to marry him. Outraged, Mia decides to discreetly take revenge for what they did to her sister.

Yes, it seems like quite a novel, with drama, unexpected plot twists, and a lot of tension on the part of its main characters. Adding to this, it also has a touch of romance after Philia arrives in the Kingdom of Parnacorta and begins working as Santa there. What draws you in is not only what they do to Philia at the beginning of the anime, but how this series of unfortunate events leads to several wonderful experiences for our protagonist in her new home. Ironically, it is far from her own home and family that she learns what true love is.

Sin embargo, la vida de Philia Adenauer tendrá un cambio completamente drástico cuando su propio prometido, el segundo príncipe de Ziltonia, Julius Ziltonia, decide hacer un trato con sus padres para venderla al reino vecino de Parnacorta. Mientras Philia se dirige a su nuevo hogar para cumplir con el puesto de Santa en el reino de Parnacorta, el príncipe Julius le comunica la noticia de la cancelación de su compromiso y la desaparición de Philia a su hermana menor, Mia Adenauer. En ese instante, Julius le pide la mano a Mia para que se case con él. Indignada, Mia decide vengarse discretamente por lo que hicieron a su hermana.

Si, parece ser toda una novela, con drama, giros de trama inesperados y mucha tensión por parte de sus personajes principales. Sumando a esto, también tiene su toque de romance luego de que Philia llega al Reino de Parnacorta y empieza a trabajar como Santa allí. Lo que te atrapa no es solamente lo que le hacen a Philia al principio del anime, sino cómo esta serie de eventos desafortunados desembocan en una cantidad de experiencias maravillosas para nuestra protagonista en su nuevo hogar. Y es que, irónicamente, es lejos de su propio hogar y su propia familia que ella conoce lo que es el verdadero amor.

This anime is perfect for anyone looking for something romantic that is also different from what we normally see in the anime industry. It's no secret that when it comes to romance, almost all stories revolve around a series of repetitive and predictable events that end up being totally cliché. That's why anime like The Too-Perfect Saint stand out from the crowd for their authentic way of mixing drama with romance and even some action at the end. The story of Philia Adenauer generates a lot of emotions, despite her being somewhat expressionless.

One of the many details that draws attention to this anime is its protagonist, who is not the typical shy girl, unable to defend herself or always depending on a prince or hero for everything. Philia Adenauer is, from the beginning, a "Perfect Saint", and she is not called that just because. Apart from having great magical abilities, she possesses tremendous endurance, not to mention the wealth of knowledge and experience she has in fighting monsters and defending the Kingdom of Ziltonia. On the other hand, her inability to express emotions makes her appear cold.

Este anime es perfecto para todo aquel que busque ver algo romántico y a la vez diferente a lo que normalmente vemos en esta industria del anime. No es una novedad que cuando hablamos de romance, casi todas las historias giran siempre en una serie de eventos repetitivos y predecibles que terminan en un total cliché. Es por eso que animes como The Too-Perfect Saint logran destacarse de entre la mayoría por su forma tan auténtica de mezclar drama con romance e incluso con algo de acción al final. La historia de Philia Adenauer nos genera una buena cantidad de emociones, a pesar de ser alguien inexpresiva.

Uno de los muchos detalles que llaman la atención de este anime es su protagonista, quién no es la típica chica tímida, incapaz de defenderse por sí misma o que dependa siempre de un príncipe o un héroe para todo. Philia Adenauer es, desde el principio, una “Santa Perfecta” y no es que la llamen así sólo porque sí. Aparte de tener grandes habilidades para la magia, posee una grandiosa resistencia, eso sin mencionar la cantidad de conocimiento y experiencia que tiene combatiendo monstruos y defendiendo al Reino de Ziltonia. Por otro lado, su problema para expresar emociones la hace una chica que aparenta frialdad.

But when we learn more about her life, her past, and the reasons behind her actions, it's hard not to grow fond of her. There's a reason why her own younger sister, Mia Adenauer, loves her so much that she decides to turn against her own parents and her own kingdom to take revenge for what they did to her. The development of both the protagonist and some of the secondary characters in this anime is admirable. It is also interesting to see how envy and ego can consume the mind of someone like Prince Julius Ziltonia. Incidentally, this character in particular is the most hated of all, and with good reason.

What's more, although he appears as the main antagonist of the anime, compared to the villain who appears at the end, I think he is even worse than a Demon King. I say this not only because of his selfish way of being and thinking, but also because of everything he did in his life long before the events we see at the beginning of the anime. Truly, none of the monsters or demons that appear in this series has caused as much harm as Julius did as a prince. And speaking of the ending, let's just say that the only bad thing about this anime is its animation. Otherwise, I don't think it's that bad.

Pero cuando conocemos más sobre su vida, su pasado y la razón de sus acciones, es difícil no encariñarse con ella. Por algo es que su propia hermana menor, Mia Adenauer, la ama tanto que hasta decide ponerse en contra de sus propios padres y de su propio reino para así vengarse por lo que le hicieron a ella. Es admirable el desarrollo que le dan tanto a la protagonista como a uno que otro personaje secundario en este anime. También es interesante ver cómo la envidia y el ego pueden llegar a consumir la mente de alguien como el príncipe Julius Ziltonia. Por cierto, este personaje en particular es el más odiado de todos y con muchísima razón.

Es más, si bien aparece como el antagonista principal del anime, en comparación con el villano que aparece al final, pienso que es peor que un Rey Demonio inclusive. No solo lo digo por su egoísta forma de ser y pensar, sino por todo lo que llegó a hacer en vida desde mucho antes de los acontecimientos que vemos al inicio del anime. De verdad, ninguno de los monstruos o demonios que aparecen en esta serie han causado tanto mal como lo hizo Julius como príncipe. Y hablando del final, digamos que lo único malo que tiene este anime es su animación nomás. De resto opino que no está tan mal que digamos.

It's a complete story, which makes it a better option than many other anime series that end up being only a small part of a much longer and more complex story than it appears to be at first. Personally, when watching anime, I prefer to watch something complete rather than an unfinished and seemingly abandoned adaptation (unless, of course, it's a masterpiece). In this anime, we can also learn about the consequences of our actions, delegating responsibilities to others, trusting people who truly care about you, and above all, not feeling underappreciated for anything in the world.

Finally, we have to talk about the audiovisual aspect of this anime. As I mentioned before, The Too-Perfect Saint does not have the best animation in history, far from it. It seems to be a very low-budget adaptation, but it still manages to give us an entertaining story. The character design, the vibrant and varied color palette, and the use of light and shadow in this anime are excellent. The same goes for the visual effects and its traditional animation style. The sound effects aren't bad, but they're nothing compared to its excellent soundtrack. In short, here's a fantastic and romantic anime that you might find interesting.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the fantasy, romance, and drama genres.

Es una historia completa, lo cual la hace una mejor opción que muchos otros animes que terminan siendo solo una pequeña parte de una historia mucho más extensa y compleja de lo que aparenta ser al principio. En lo personal, al momento de ver un anime, prefiero ver algo completo que una adaptación inconclusa y aparentemente abandonada (claro, a excepción de que sean una obra maestra). También que en este anime podemos aprender sobre las consecuencias de nuestras acciones, el delegar responsabilidades a los demás, el confiar en la gente que de verdad se preocupa por tí y sobre todo el no sentirse infravalorado por nada del mundo.

Por último, hay que hablar del apartado audiovisual de este anime. Como ya mencioné antes, The Too-Perfect Saint no tiene la mejor animación de la historia ni muchísimo menos. Parece ser una adaptación de muy bajo presupuesto, pero aún así logra cumplir con darnos una historia entretenida. El diseño de los personajes, la paleta vibrante y variada de colores y el uso de luces y sombras en este anime es excelente. Lo mismo sucede con los efectos visuales y su estilo de animación tradicional que tiene. Los efectos de sonido no están mal, pero no es nada comparado con su excelente banda sonora. En fin, aquí les dejo un anime fantástico y romántico que te puede llegar a interesar.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, romance y drama.
