Anime Review: The God of High School
When I first stumbled upon The God of High School, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I’d heard the name mentioned in a few anime communities and manga forums, but the title sounded like just another high school anime series trying to capitalize on the popularity of action heavy shows like Naruto or One Punch Man. But once I started watching, I realized this was something different,it had a visually electrifying ride that blends high octane martial arts with Japanese mythology, gods, and chaos.

At first glance, it follows a classic shounen formula, teenagers battling it out in a grand tournament, with each fighter wielding their own unique skill. The central character, Jin Mori, is a carefree high school student whose only real goal is to fight strong opponents and get stronger. He quickly teams up with Han Daewi and Yoo Mira, forming a power trio with surprising chemistry.
Things escalate quickly. The tournament, which starts with grounded hand to hand fights, suddenly plunges into supernatural territory involving Charyeok, powers drawn from legendary figures and gods. Imagine watching a Taekwondo fight transform into a battle where one character summons a massive dragon or war god, it’s chaotic, yes, but undeniably exciting.

The pacing is intense, within the first few episodes, we go from sparring matches to world ending threats. For some, this might be too rushed. If you're used to anime like Bleach or Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, where arcs build gradually, The God of High School might feel overwhelming because it happened all quick but if you love fast storytelling packed with energy, this show delivers.
One thing that absolutely blew me away was the animation quality. MAPPA, the studio behind Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan: Final Season once again proves why they’re at the top of the game. Every fight scene is a work of art, animated with precision and flair. The camera angles, the motion blur, the character movements all feel cinematic.
Unlike some shows where battles are quick or stylized, not to shame them but I'll list, thus are shows like Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo, The God of High School brings raw, visceral martial arts to life. There’s a weight behind every punch and kick, something reminiscent of classic mecha anime battles only without the robots.
Personally i know a lot of work was put into the opening themes, the opening theme “Contradiction” by KSUKE sets the perfect tone, it's chaotic, upbeat, and modern. The background music complements the action and even softer moments. Fans of shows like Tokyo Ghoul or Psycho-Pass will appreciate how much effort went into crafting the series' soundscape.

For me this is where the anime slightly loses points. The characters are likable, I adore Jin Mori, his innocence and fight obsession remind me of Goku from Dragon Ball Z, and Daewi’s calm demeanor echoes characters like Lelouch from Code Geass or Ichigo from Bleach but the problem is time.
The anime compressed too much into 13 episodes. We get hints at tragic backstories, like Mira’s dedication to her sword school, but they’re not fully explored. It’s a shame because, in a longer format animes like Fairy Tail or Hunter x Hunter, these characters would have had more emotional depth.
As someone who has watched anime for years from the classic Neon Genesis Evangelion and Fullmetal Alchemist to newer hits like Demon Slayer I can say The God of High School feels like a love letter to both modern and old school anime fans.
Sure, it’s not a deep character drama or an emotional slice of life, but it never pretends to be. It’s a battle anime through and through. If you enjoy shows like Sword Art Online for their flashy fights or My Hero Academia for their tournament arcs, this one’s a great addition to your anime list.

Even the design of some characters and powers gave me Gurren Lagann and Fate/Stay Night vibes, larger than life, colorful, and soaked in mythology. It’s easy to see why this show gained so much popularity during its initial run on Crunchyroll and among the otaku community online.
My overall Rating would be a 9/10
If you’re craving something that pushes the boundaries of animated action with insane choreography, intense power systems, and a mythological edge, The God of High School is a must watch. It’s not the most emotionally rich or character driven anime TV series, but it is one of the most exhilarating. So whether you’re a longtime anime lover or just building your watch anime backlog, this is one show that definitely earns its spot. Give it a try but be ready for a wild, god-powered ride.

The review is honest and really fun to read! I agree , the animation is indeed crazy , but it's a shame the story is too rushed... Still a must-watch for action anime fans!
