Love Through a Prism / Review

Since I gave the first romantic anime a chance, I don't think twice about watching one or something else, whether it's because of the demographic or genre, because sometimes we come across pleasant surprises, like a few days ago when it premiered on the Netflix streaming platform.

Love Through a Prism

This animation is an adaptation of the manga of the same name, illustrated by Maki Minami, which tells the story of a 20-year-old Japanese girl named Lili Ichijoin. She travels to England to study at an art academy called Saint Thomas Art Academy, but only if she manages to be recognized as the top student within six months will she be able to continue studying art; otherwise, she will have to return to Japan and take over her family's kimono business.

What this young woman did not count on was how much this trip would influence her, because in addition to improving her skills and making friends, she found love in the person of Kit Church, who is always first in class. So what began as a rivalry gradually turns into love, but there is one detail: neither of them seems to be completely aware of it at first, and then, when they accept it, they don't know how to express their feelings to each other in the right way.

Although love is present and the title lets us know it, the anime reminds us of the importance of focusing on our goals and seeking to improve in everything we do, the importance of friendships and how they can transform us or influence us to discover ourselves, and how the situations around us often lead us to make decisions that do not always go hand in hand with what we are passionate about or desire, but rather with our responsibilities.

It also caught my attention, as I mentioned, that both Lili and Kit were terrible at expressing their feelings for each other correctly; Everyone around them knew how they felt about each other, but they never managed to express it correctly until the end, and the only way to achieve this was by comparing how they saw the world without the other, but using art or colors to make the other understand what being without the other meant.

On the other hand, this anime is set at the beginning of the 20th century, and the animation pays attention to the details of the fashion, streets, and customs of the time, using the earth tones of the moment, but with beautiful animation that tends to highlight details such as landscapes and places, especially those admired by the painters or sculptors in the plot, as well as their eyes, expressions, the movement of their hair, and the lighting used at specific moments, such as when Lili wears the liro costume at the dance.

Regarding the color scheme, some episodes use black and white, especially in the final chapters, giving us the idea that Lili has stopped seeing life in color because she is melancholic or sad, and color only returns to the screen when she takes up painting again and realizes that she must return to what she is passionate about without neglecting her responsibilities.

This anime only has 20 episodes, which I enjoyed from start to finish. I can't deny that at times it was frustrating to see the characters drowning in a glass of water and how they went around in circles to be together. But yes, sometimes we need to mature to understand that we must take our own path without fear. I'll leave you with my review here. I give this anime an 8/10.

Desde que le di la oportunidad al primer anime romántico, ahora no le doy tantas vueltas para ver uno o algo de otro tipo, sea por demografía o género, pues a veces nos topamos con gratas sorpresas, así hace unos días se estrenó en la plataforma de streaming Netflix.

El amor a través de un prisma

Esta animación es una adaptación al manga del mismo nombre, ilustrado por Maki Minami el cual narra la experiencia de una joven japonesa de 20 años, llamada Lili Ichijoin. Ella viaja a Inglaterra a estudiar en una academia de artes cuyo nombre es Saint Thomas Art Academy, pero solo si logra ser reconocida como el primer lugar dentro de seis meses; podrá permanecer estudiando artes; de lo contrario, deberá regresar a Japón y hacerse cargo del negocio de kimonos de su familia.

Con lo que no contaba esta joven era con cuánto influiría en ella este viaje, ya que además de mejorar y hacer amigos, conoció el amor en la persona del joven Kit Church quien siempre es el primero de la clase, así que lo que al principio comenzó como una rivalidad poco a poco se convierte en amor, pero hay un detalle: ninguno de los dos primero parece estar completamente consciente de ello y luego, al aceptarlo, no saben como expresar de la forma correcta al otro sus sentimientos.

Aunque el amor está presente y el título nos lo deja saber, el anime nos recuerda la importancia de centrarnos en nuestras metas y de buscar mejorar en todo lo que hacemos, lo importante de las amistades y como estas pueden transformarnos o influirnos a descubrirnos, y como las situaciones a nuestro alrededor muchas veces nos llevan a tomar decisiones que no siempre van de la mano con lo que nos apasiona o deseamos, pero sí con nuestras responsabilidades.

Así mismo llamó mi atención, como ya mencioné, que tanto Lili como Kit eran pésimos para expresarse de forma correcta en cuanto a sus sentimientos mutuos; todos a su alrededor sabían lo que sentían el uno por el otro, pero ellos nunca lograron expresarlo de forma correcta hasta el final y para ello la única manera de lograrlo fue comparando como veía el mundo sin el otro, pero usando al arte o colores para hacerle entender al otro lo que estar sin el otro representaba.

Por otra parte este anime el anime esta ambientado a comienzos del siglo XX, la animación cuida los detalles de la moda, calles y costumbres de la época, usando los tonos tierra del momento, pero con una animación preciosa que suele destacar detalles como paisajes y lugares sobre todo aquellos que son admirados por los pintores o escultores presentes en la trama, también los ojos, las expresiones de estos, el movimiento del cabello y las luces que usan en momentos específicos como por ejemplo cuando Lili usa el traje del liro en el baile.

Acerca del colorido, en algunos números se usa el blanco y negro, sobre todo en los capítulos finales, dándonos una idea de que Lili ha dejado de ver la vida con color porque está melancólica o triste, y el color solo vuelve a la pantalla cuando retoma la pintura y comprende que debe volver a lo que la apasiona sin dejar sus responsabilidades de lado.

Este anime solo cuenta con 20 capítulos, los que disfruté de principio a fin; no puedo negar que en algunos momentos era desesperante ver como los personajes se ahogaban en un vaso de agua y como se dieron muchas vueltas para lograr estar juntos. Pero sí, a veces necesitamos madurar para comprender que debemos tomar nuestro propio camino sin temor. Me despido dejando por acá mi reseña; yo le doy a este anime un 8/10.
