Heaven Official's Blessing/ Review and opinion

I had heard something about Chinese anime, but I hadn't had the pleasure of watching any until I chose one without knowing it was from this country. What mainly caught my attention was that it looked like a historical anime, that is, one of those that give us a glimpse of what the country's ancient culture was like.
The Heavenly Officer's Blessing
The plot centers on the adventures of the martial god Xie Lian, who has ascended three times. This god was the heir to the kingdom of Xian Le, and although he ascended at an early age, 17, due to unfortunate circumstances, he is quickly banished back to earth.

After his banishment, this god goes from having many devotees to none, so he is sent to the mortal realm to solve a mystery and thus earn merits to pay off his debts. Accompanied by lesser gods, he begins his journey and suddenly encounters another young man named San Lang, who is actually a powerful Ghost King.
Now, I must say that as this is the first Chinese anime I have seen, I found it a little difficult to adapt to the rhythm of Mandarin, as it is so soft that at times it made me a little sleepy, as it was so relaxing.

As for the animation, it is quite acceptable and certainly emphasizes details such as parts of San Lang's clothing, the swords, and especially the characters' eyes to reflect expressions. Something I liked was the representation of some castles with water gardens, but if anything stands out, it is the delicate features of the characters, especially the main ones, and how they remind us of the clothing style of ancient China.
As for the plot, it is somewhat complex; there are many details that are revealed as you watch the anime, and if you lose focus, you have to rewind the episode because you won't understand anything.

In reality, although the plot can be slow at times, it gradually gives us clues about the characters' past; it even allows us to know or discover things that they themselves have not discovered. In essence, this is an anime whose story explores sacrifice, loyalty, and romance between the characters, as well as the tensions between the world of immortals and that of ghosts. Blessing of the Heavenly Officer is based on a Chinese danmei novel, a genre of literature that features romantic relationships between male characters, often mixing elements of fantasy, history, and Chinese mythology.
On the other hand, the music is very relaxing and reminds us that this anime is centered on China in its essence. The opening of the second season, in particular, has interesting animation and gives us a glimpse of what we will see in that season.

Although the anime focuses on the different missions of this god, there is no shortage of battles, intrigue, and seeing how these beings, even though they have ascended, continue to have human flaws or weaknesses.
On the other hand, the relationship between Xie Lian and San Lang, also known as Hua Cheng and the Crimson Rain Seeking a Flower, is very present in the anime. It is clear that there is a romantic interest, mainly or initially on the part of Hua Cheng, who always protects Lian and helps him at all times.

In fact, some scenes may make the audience uncomfortable, as Hua Cheng treats Lian like a man treats a woman; the way he touches and defends him at times makes it seem that way, in addition to the fact that Lian's features are very feminine and he is shorter than Hua Cheng, who has more masculine features.
This anime is available on various platforms such as Crunchyroll and other online sites, but it will soon be available on Netflix. So far, it only has two seasons; its fans eagerly await its renewal to learn more about Lian's past and how his relationship with San Lang will evolve. I give this anime a 5/10.

It looks super interesting, I'll have to check it out
It's interesting because you get to know the characters little by little.

I totally understand the language culture shock. Since this is your first donghua, it's normal to feel Mandarin strange; it has a very soft and fast cadence that, compared to the usual shouting in Japanese anime, can be sleepy if you're not used to it.
I have also never seen a Chinese anime myself. I don't even watch Chinese drama, not for any particular reason though. But your review on this one has piqued my interest.
I already even added it to watchlist. I might just give it a try
I gave it a chance because I've seen brief reviews of some Chinese anime that are rated as very good.
