Unexpected bond
Friend(s)???
One who knows you and loves you just the same.
Ever heard the saying, " choose your friends, don't let friends choose you ?". At first I didn't get the idea behind that statement. I kept wondering if it meant walking up to the person you would like to befriend and be like, hey there, can we be friends? which I must say, is quite awkward for me to do. But overtime, I got to understand what that meant.
From my perspective, it's all about holding unto that someone or set of people who are always there, in highs and lows, encourage you to retain focus, share in your joy and pain, bring smiles on your face at the mere thought of them and stick with you for who you are.
And along the same lines, maintaining a distance from those who are after you what you have to offer and disappear the moment things get a little rough for you.
So with that being said, I have a good number of friends I met at different situations whom life literally threw at me. One thing led to the other and here we are....... as the best of friends.
Using an instance of my intimate friend, I was still a new student in the school trying to navigate and find my way around, very much maintaining my distance. I'm not the bubbly kind of person who makes friends with ease so it was just a hi and hello to anyone I come across, even after a few weeks.
Then came this project whereby everyone were to be in groups of twos and make a presentation on any trending international topic. Both of the partners would make a research on the topic of their choice, then while one is to construct the write up, the other would do the talking. The best part was that you can choose your partner and everyone immediately rushed to their padis.
I stood awkwardly shifting from one foot to the other until Mayen walked up to me and grabbed my arm offering to be my partner. I gave her a small smile as I let out a sign of relief.
The two weeks accorded to each group for the presentation was just what it took for us to bond. Despite the fact that the presentation was a challenge to us, we still made sure to have little fun in-between.
Yes.... we both have our differences but with time, we got to know and respect our respective opinions and ideas, and had each other's back at all times which is still very much the case till date.

Thanks for the tagging. The very best friend to have is those that will understand who without descriminating, knowing and value you, give respect and be there for you in the smooth and rough. They check on you from time to time, make you smile and want the best for you. Those are the people I can call friends. To know if someone is a friend or not the relationship use to take minimum of 4 months.
Eggxactly my point.....if I call you my friend, then I should matter enough to have in place in your schedule, which I will definitely reciprocate.
Thanks for popping in 🥰
I love this...
Of a truth, true friends are the ones who make life easier, they are more of a support system, cheering you on as you go while staying in both good and bad times.

I really enjoyed the personal touch you gave, especially with the story of how you and Mayen became close. It made your perspective on friendship feel genuine and relatable. You did well highlighting the balance between friends who stay for who you are and those who only come around for what you have.
