Art Journal: "The Old Gum Tree" โ๐๏ธ
Hello, Hiver friends and fellow art enthusiasts! How are you doing? I hope you're making the most of your day. Let me share the new coffee painting I created today.
Coffee painting is an art form that uses coffee powder as a medium to create stunning images, like breathtaking scenery and picturesque scenes. This unique technique involves using different applications of coffee to come up with different shades and tones.
This painting showcases a tranquil landscape with a well-known tree in the foreground, which is the gum tree. The background highlighted the misty trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
I used three painting brushes for this piece, and it took me an hour to finish it. For those interested in trying this unique medium, follow the step-by-step basic methods below.
Materials Needed:
๐ Watercolor Paper, sketching Paper, or stretched canvas
๐ Pencil and Eraser
๐ Coffee Powder
๐ 2 small cups ( lighter and darker shades)
๐ Ruler
๐ Clean Water
๐ Rag
๐ Paper napkin or paper towel
Brushes:
๐ Flat Brush /small #10, 10/32 / 8.0mm
๐ Liner Brush #2 / 2/32" / 1.6mm
๐ Filbert brush
Note: Keep all the materials ready before you start painting.
Basic Procedure:
โข Outline or sketch your painting reference.
โข Paint using a lighter shade of the background by creating a beautiful texture.
โข On the middle ground, paint the first layer of the subject.
โข The same procedure as the foreground.
โข Once the first layer is completely dry, you can proceed to paint with a darker shade of coffee.
โข Then add details to bring your painting to life. I used a liner brush for the thin details.
Take note: In putting details, you cannot have sharp lines and shapes unless it is completely dry.
