Después de mi visita del lunes a La Asunción, saben que tengo algunas cositas pendientes por compartirles en la comunidad, y hoy quiero comenzar esta serie de publicaciones con un lugar que descubrí hace muchísimos años, y al que no había regresado hasta ese día lunes, y se trata del Museo-Casa Natal del General en Jefe Juan Bautista Arismendi, un asuntino de pura cepa, prócer de nuestra independencia, y que si no conoces, y eres amante de la historia no puedes dejar de ir a visitar, te aseguro que no te arrepentirás.

Este museo se encuentra ubicado en el casco histórico de La Asunción, en la calle Indepencia, justo frente al estacionamiento público y a la Biblioteca Pública Central Loreto Prieto Higuerey, es una casona de estilo colonial construida en el siglo XVIII, en la que nació Juan Bautista Arismendi, que como les comenté arriba fue pieza fundamental en la lucha independentista de nuestro país, y de ahí que hayan decidido recuperar este espacio para mostrarnos un poco de lo que fue su vida, justamente dentro de las paredes en las que creció.

After my visit to La Asunción on Monday, you know I have a few things to share with the community, and today I want to start this series of posts with a place I discovered many years ago, and to which I had not returned until that Monday, and that is the Museum-Birthplace of General-in-Chief Juan Bautista Arismendi, a true native of La Asunción and a hero of our independence. If you don't know him and you love history, you can't miss visiting this museum. I assure you that you won't regret it.

This museum is located in the historic center of La Asunción, on Independencia Street, right in front of the public parking lot and the Loreto Prieto Higuerey Central Public Library. It is a colonial-style mansion built in the 18th century, where Juan Bautista Arismendi was born. As I mentioned above, he was a key figure in our country's struggle for independence, which is why they decided to restore this space to show us a little of what his life was like, right within the walls where he grew up.

Esta casona, como todas las construcciones de la época se caracteriza por sus techos altos de madera, paredes blancas y sus pisos de ladrillo cocido, que por cierto son los mismos de la época en que fue construida, y aunque fue objeto de una restauración en el año 1970 que estuvo a cargo de un bisnieto del General Juan Bautista Arismendi, conserva todos los detalles de la estructura original.

Cuenta con varias habitaciones en las que puedes ver mobiliario de la época, y de hecho pertenecientes a la casa, lo que es simplemente increíble, y por supuesto cuenta con un patio central lo que constituye una característica de todas las edificaciones de la colonia, donde las habitaciones se encontraban dispuestas al rededor de un patio interno lleno de árboles y plantas, que no solo aportan una gran belleza, sino mucha frescura a la casa, y éste es sin duda de los aspectos más lindos de este tipo de construcciones.

This mansion, like all buildings of the period, is characterized by its high wooden ceilings, white walls, and fired brick floors, which are the same as those from the time it was built. Although it underwent restoration in 1970 by a great-grandson of General Juan Bautista Arismendi, it retains all the details of the original structure.

It has several rooms where you can see period furniture that actually belonged to the house, which is simply incredible. Of course, it also has a central courtyard, which is a characteristic feature of all colonial buildings, where the rooms were arranged around an internal courtyard filled with trees and plants, which not only add great beauty but also a lot of freshness to the house. and this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful aspects of this type of construction.

Dentro, como les dije, pueden ver una gran cantidad de muebles en madera maciza, que datan del siglo 18, y que en su mayoría se encuentran en excelentes condiciones tomando en cuenta la cantidad de años que tienen, particularmente mi favorito fue el juego de comedor que se encuentra en una de las habitaciones, además de un mueble precioso que se encuentra en una de las ventanas que dan hacia la calle.

Aparte de esos que son mis favoritos, se pueden ver distribuidas por toda la casa, pequeños escritorios del mismo estilo que el resto de los muebles, así como enormes vitrinas de madera y vidrio que en estos momentos se encuentran vacías en su mayoría, pero recuerdo que hace unos 10 años cuando la visité por primera vez tenían dentro muchos libros y algunos objetos decorativos que formaban parte de la casa.

El patio central se encuentra muy bien conservado, muchísimos árboles y plantas de todo tipo le dan una vista hermosa a la casa, y justo en el momento de mi visita los jardineros estaban haciéndole mantenimiento y debo decir que hacen un gran trabajo, porque luce realmente lindo y muy bien cuidado.

Inside, as I mentioned, you can see a large amount of solid wood furniture dating back to the 18th century, most of which is in excellent condition considering its age. My favorite piece was the dining room set in one of the rooms, as well as a beautiful piece of furniture in one of the windows facing the street.

Apart from those, which are my favorites, you can see small desks in the same style as the rest of the furniture distributed throughout the house, as well as huge wooden and glass display cabinets, which are currently mostly empty, but I remember that about 10 years ago when I visited for the first time, they contained many books and some decorative objects that were part of the house.

The central courtyard is very well preserved, with many trees and plants of all kinds giving the house a beautiful view. At the time of my visit, the gardeners were doing maintenance work, and I must say they do a great job because it looks really nice and very well cared for.

Durante el recorrido van a ver muchísima madera oscura por todos lados, desde techos, muebles, ventanas y puertas, que por cierto son enormes y muy imponentes.

La iluminación está a cargo de unas lámparas de hierro forjado súper lindas que asemejan a las lámparas que se utilizaban antiguamente y que complementan toda la estética del lugar, y aunque toda la casa de por sí es un tesoro histórico, lo más importante es la cantidad de documentos que te encuentras distribuidos en los diferentes espacios a medida que la recorres, y es que puedes leer el nombramiento en el cual se le confiere el título de General en Jefe a Juan Bautista Arismendi, que por cierto es del 12 de Julio, día de mi cumpleaños, solo que en el año 1.870!!

También te puedes encontrar documentos en físico, escritos y firmados por nuestro Libertador Simón Bolívar y por otras figuras importantes de la época, tanto militares como políticos, incluso tienen una foto ampliada del acta de matrimonio de Juan Bautista Arismendi con la heroína Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, así que imagínense lo que es, estar en ese lugar rodeado de este tipo de cosas. Es simplemente mágico, un momento que te hace sentir agradecido de poder estar ahí y poder recordar momentos tan importantes de nuestra historia, estar en el mismo lugar donde en su momento estuvieron estos personajes, es demasiado genial.

During the tour, you will see lots of dark wood everywhere, from ceilings to furniture, windows, and doors, which are enormous and very impressive.

The lighting is provided by beautiful cast iron lamps that resemble those used in the past and complement the overall aesthetic of the place. And although the entire house is a historical treasure in itself, the most important thing is the number of documents you find scattered throughout the house as you tour it. You can read the appointment conferring the title of General-in-Chief on Juan Bautista Arismendi, which, incidentally, is dated July 12, my birthday, only in the year 1870!

You can also find physical documents, written and signed by our Liberator Simón Bolívar and other important figures of the time, both military and political. They even have an enlarged photo of the marriage certificate of Juan Bautista Arismendi and the heroine Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, so imagine what it's like to be in that place surrounded by these kinds of things. It's simply magical, a moment that makes you feel grateful to be there and to be able to remember such important moments in our history. Being in the same place where these figures once stood is just too cool.

Yo disfruté muchísimo de esta visita, amé la arquitectura de la casa, los muebles, toda la historia que hay en cada rinconcito, y por supuesto las pinturas y obras de arte que nunca pueden faltar en espacios como estos, así que si aún no conoces este museo y estás en Margarita, no puedes dejar de visitarlo, y si vienes de visita, este debe ser uno de los lugares a conocer.

Como ven Margarita es mucho más que playas, sol y arena.

I thoroughly enjoyed this visit. I loved the architecture of the house, the furniture, all the history in every corner, and of course the paintings and works of art that are a must in spaces like these. So, if you haven't visited this museum yet and you're in Margarita, you can't miss it. And if you're visiting, this should be one of the places to see.

As you can see, Margarita is much more than just beaches, sun, and sand.
