To Hell And Back: Wednesday Walk!
Well Hello There Fellow Hivers!
I've grown quite fond of these walks, it has a way off clearing out your mind and usually when I do the walks I can sort of have a mid week recap of whats going on.
Now this week started off, terrible to say the least but I'll be trying to see some positives in it, no better way to bring some light into your life. I took some photos after the incident we had on the farm on Monday afternoon.
Let me start off by saying I've a lot to be gratefull for.
For those of you who have seen this before knows the story but for those that don't...
Monday afternoon we had a fire raging on the farm and that in it self isn't good news, especially when you have animals on the farm and those animals are dependent on the land to survive, well most of the lands were burned down. Not all of it but most of it, but at-least we still have some grazing pastures left and to top it off we didn't lose a single animal. It was still a terrifying thing to have experienced.
After we managed to extinguish the fires one might think that the worst is over, well the worst really was over but the work wasn't done yet. All across the farm there were these spots that still burned and smoldered. Now for fear of the wind picking up slightly and sending a few embers into the air and having them land on a unburned patch of field, well let's just say we didn't want that to happen now did we.
Myself, my brother in law and my uncle went on the hunt for all these little spots where the horsedung was still very much in a smoldering state.
Most of these were very noticeable and really stood out so we dealt with the biggest of them first, like this pole caught up in the wires still burning away slowly. That's a hazard of-course.
The horsedung was the most, there were hundreds of them still burning away and it was hard at first to spot them but as soon as the sun dropped a little bit and the wind stopped blowing they stood out nicely.
I didn't think to get a photo of all the dung leaving smoke trails behind, it would have been a great depiction of what I meant but that's gone now.
It actually had some beauty in it, even though the whole situation was terrible. Literally everyone I know would crap on my head for this but The Aftermath was actually very beautifull, especially with the smoke trails on the farm.
Yes I know how this might sound. 🤣
The thing that really boggles my mind is that some places where the fire went over there are untouched grass.
Like in this photo, it's very obvious that the flames went over this spot because the dung is burning still and in my mind the dung would take longer to light up than dried out grass, or am I wrong?
By the time the sun set we managed to clear out most of the spots that still burned but we still had some left none the less.
Ironically we unintentionally walked all around the farm in a circle like route so for us to go back home we had to cross over where all of the spots were still smoldering and if we did that at the end we would be at home.
It really wasn't that bad at all, it was a little tiring to say the least but it wasn't bad. I had good company and a great view considering what happened a few hours earlier.
What made my day, if anything was able to make my day after such an event was that I only really noticed the insane amount of wild animals that we had on the farm, more bucks than we knew and a wider variety of birds than we first thought there were.
That's always great isn't it?
This was certainly a sight that gave me a lot of joy!
We still had our tortoise! We've received about four over the last three years where people "donated" them to us, I don't really want to use that word because it wasn't donated it was given to us so that they can have a stretch of land to tread on without the fear of cars running over them.
Well we've always wondered what happened to them as we don't cage them in, we just let them roam free. Tortoises are unique, they tend to go back to where they were born or where they were taken from, no matter how many miles away it might be. So the fact that we still had one left here was amazing to me!
No, the rest didn't burn in the fires, we walked over every inch of burned field and we didn't even find a rat that got burned up. Amazing right!
Well, here's to the Good Old Tortoise that made it through the worst of the worst and unharmed as well!

Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Eish man, what always gets me is the small animals that burn and like the tortoises that never get away. But luckily you saw some! And there is beauty in the raging power of a fire even though its so destructive. Sorry about the losses (land and whatever got in the way of the fire). And its always amazing how spots are left unscathed; like the fire never touched it even though it burnt the surrounding areas. Keep safe, my friend!
Fires are always so scary and its great that no animals were killed and you were able to contain the fire and put out all the remaining patches still smoldering
Strange how the dun was burning and not the grass, it could be that dung can contain a lot of gas making it more flammable perhaps
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Might be the gasses, but then if it's gassy shouldn't it then give reason for the grass around it to burn 😅 but it doesn't really matter now does it!
We lost quite a big patch of the grazing grounds, but with that we learned some real valuable information and along with it experience!
Have a great one bud!

great to take it all as a learning experience
Hey bro!
My first thought looking at this post was the fact that through a bad situation you found a way to capture some beauty in it. That's a rare skill my man. It was further confirmed in how you expressed this in your write up for the post.
It's obvious you also possess a rare skill of being able to work very hard in real life and also maintain a very active and very impressive blog, and I see your hard work has been paying off! 😎
I really like these photos and that tortoise is really cool :D
I have a hard time keeping up with all your awesome content but I do my best to make it over here as much as possible.
Keep on being amazing brother! 👍
Haha no worried bud we can't always be on Hive hey! Real life does come first!
Thanks a million though bud! I do try to see the best in all the worst I'm sure you do too. Sometimes it's harder and sometimes it's fairly easy but being negative about a situation that you can't change has no positive outcome on one's life! Rather just let it be then because no matter how hard we grief about something it wont change. Like these fields, I'm not going to wake up tomorrow morning and everything will be unburnt again 🤣
I do try my best! Laughs I'm kind of aiming for the yearly author badge it was a bit difficult at the start to write up something everyday but I've grown accustomed to it and it might continue like this for long after this year has ended or it might end abruptly for a while, we shall see. What I did realize waws there is no point in forcing a story, when it's natural the write up is much much easier. So I write up for what I'm in the mood for on the day, except for the gaming posts on Fridays and Sundays.. but gaming is fun who doesn't like that! 🤣
I can say the same for you aswell! Keep on being amazing!
PS I also want to grow my own herbs sooner or later, I'll just have to get my own place first xD but the first thing I'm going to do is work on that garden!

I really like the way you think and operate.
It won't take you long I'm sure ;)
That sounds like a terrible accident. I am glad the animals, including the tortoise are doing well. I hope the land recovers soon!
It's winter now so it wont be recovering for a while but luckily it's not the start of winter. When it grows back it'll grow back stronger though, we just have to make due for now!
Thanks a lot hey!

I can understand the mentioned beauty in this scenarious as well 😆 it's horrible to see this events, hopefully all is good by now 🤞
And well done poor turtle, despite being super slow still managing! 🤗🐢
Have a nice day @technicalside 😊
Yeah the turtle is managing just fine, although my grandfather has told me a bunch of stories of how turtles survive wild fires, of-course not all of them d but they are actually very smart when it comes to that.
Much like the rabbit and the turtle story one could say!
Well there has been quite a few fires around us since the one on our farm, but if I had to take a wild guess it is being started deliberately.
