In my little garden. Cilantro and Parsley

Don't ask me why, because I wouldn't know the answer as to why, but I like pink flamingos.

I just took these photos because of the shadows!

Have you accidentally bought cilantro when you intended to pick up parsley, or vice versa? They look almost identical but have very different flavors, which can affect the taste of your dish. It sometimes makes buying herbs so intimidating.

I planted cilantro and parsley. These herbs are used almost daily in my cooking.

Cilantro

This is a cilantro. Cilantro is known as coriander and I read that it is part of the carrot family. I use cilantro mostly in Mexican dishes.

IMG_4546.JPG

Parsley

These are parsley leaves. The one on the left is curly parsley that has distinguishing leaves and is easily identifiable as parsley. On the right is flat parsley.

What would be an easier way to identify cilantro from parsley if both are green herbs with long stalks and flat leaves?

leaves (1)marks.jpg

The difference?

The best way to distinguish cilantro from parsley is though the leaf’s shape. Cilantro’s leaves are more rounded while parsley’s leaves are more pointed. Source

The shadow photos are truly amazing
And as for cilantro and parsley, honestly, I’ve fallen into that same trap so many times as they look way too similar.

It is good to utilize empty land to make a small garden, it shoes plants for kitchen and health needs. Thank you. Happy days.

You know sis, I don't think I ever have smelled the fruits. I tend to go by touch with those. Not sure why; just don't think it ever occurred to me, !LOLZ🤗💜🌹

Oh! You just made it so simple for me to identify cilantro and parsley. As both have almost the same appearance, besides being green in color, I must remember the shape of their leaves. Cilantro is rounded while parsley has pointed leaves.
Thank you!

I got a sole parsley plant for this year's cooking, no mistaking it. But I'm also trying a camomile plant to accent some of my natural tea blends. And I don't have a pink flamingo.

Always, with !LUV 🤗🌺❤️

The Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken? I forgot the fresh Parmesan and ended up making something else with the chicken. I threw out my old shaker of Parm cheese which has been sitting way tooooo long in my fridge. Will try again next week's shopping.

I've tried to grow cilantro a couple times in the past and it always turns yellow and dies on me.

The plants are sensitive. Cilantro grows best in cool places with temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If it's too hot, the plant turns yellow and may not survive, @bozz.

See, I never would have guessed that. I probably figured the more sunlight the better.

I LOVE parsley, I swear I can add it to so many things and enjoy that so much! It has to be fresh though, I don't do dried parsley, lol.

Then there's cilantro, which I never even heard of until I believe I needed it for a falafel recipe if I'm remembering that correctly. It was then when I learned that cilantro has this special taste that part of the population thinks their eating soap when eating it.

I then understood why my boyfriend doesn't like my falafel, lol. It also made me think back to when we went for tapas at a great place, good quality food, where he said they didn't rinse their dishes very well because the food tasted like soap. They kindly replaced it but thinking about that incident later, it's just the fact that he thinks he tastes this when there's cilantro inside, which is not always mentioned :)

As you're growing your own cilantro, I wonder, is it normal to always have the idea that the leaves are a bit unfresh when buying it? Every time I buy it, it's from that day in the supermarket but it never feels or smells as fresh as parsley for example. I always have the feeling that I'm buying older cilantro, lol. Maybe that's just the way cilantro is, I'm curious.

Hope you're doing good!

Good afternoon, dear friend @silversaver888

I'm not surprised you like flamingos; they're truly beautiful birds.

I didn't know this information about the parrot. I appreciate you sharing it.

Have a wonderful weekend.
