Millennium Walk in Palace of Zaragoza
It's interesting how we humans always forget about the beautiful things that surround us... While we are checking out posts on HIVE and see great places around the world, we always have a wish to visit them, but sometimes, they are so far away... I'm first like that! Whenever I see a sandy beach on some distant islands, I'm already at Google, checking out plane tickets... 😀
Every country is beautiful! When I moved to Spain, I didn't realize how much history and how big is it! The first few years were the hardest as we had to get used to a new place of living, get our kid to school (kindergarten at that moment), and find a job...
One year passed, and we didn't visit ANY place in Spain except the place where we lived... The second year is the same... I remember talking with our families when they would always ask, "Which places did you discover this year?" Barcelona? Madrid? Looking at the map, everything looks so close... 3 fingers and you are there... In reality, 5-6 hours by car, in one direction!
The same goes for Zaragoza... The place where I would take you today in this #WednesdayWalk... I suppose that I would never (at least not yet) visit this city if there was no wish for my son to continue his music studies there... He was researching places where he could go to University and Zaragoza was one of the options... Of course, my "HIVE-addicted brain" did part of the research and I found out that another 2 Hivians live in that city, so we arranged a meetup!

One was @palomap3 (the other mentioned Hivian is @ninaeatshere) who was so kind to show us places around Zaragoza! Having a (local) friend in the place which you are visiting is priceless! You can never get so much information from any tour guide as you can get from locals who live their whole lives! They will show you places where a tour guide will not take you, and I like exactly that! The hidden gems of the city...
The Aljafería Palace (Palacio de la Aljafería) isn't one of those "hidden" gems as you can't hide this big castle!! 😃 But, it is a gem, that's for sure!

What amazes me the most about Spain is the number of historical places all around the country! I suppose that's one of the "attractions" that invites so many tourists all around the world to visit it... It's not just "sun and the beach tourism", but also, a history walk through centuries and this palace is a very good example of exactly that!

Built during the second half of the 11th century, it is the ONLY example of large conserved Spanish Islamic architecture from that period! Luckily, for centuries, some people took care of it and it had multiple renovations and restorations as these banners say... I have visited in the past Alhambra, in Granada, another historical place which I expected to be the "oldest" and best conserved, but I have to admit that Zaragoza Palace is on another level!!!
In the interior of the castle, there are so many things to see and you could miss a lot of them if you don't pay attention... For example, the roof and ceilings of certain rooms are spectacular!!! I think I had neck pain after this visit! 😃

What a masterpiece!!!

Imagine having doors like these at your home! Every time you go through them, you will have a feeling of being a King/Queen for a moment! 😃 Even going to the bathroom would be like a royal walk! 😂
Views at the interior garden remind me of Alhambra again... I remember how the garden in Granada was split into 4 parts, where every part had plants and fruits that were ready for harvesting in different seasons of the year! In that way, they would have fresh food on the table during the whole year! How clever was that!

On every floor, there was a map of "rooms" that you can visit

And when you are moving from one floor to another, you go by a staircase like this one!!! Another awesome roof and it's in staircase! Like, c'mon! 😃 It's astonishing how every room got a well-deserved "beautify filter"... 🙂

Speaking of details...

Some parts of the palace are taken to the National Archeological Museum in Madrid...
And suddenly, out of nowhere, inside the palace, you walk into a big hall where the Regional Parlament of the autonomous community of Aragon has its sessions! I'm not sure that I like the idea of seeing politicians in such a historical place, but on the other side, except for historic value, it's great to see that the palace still has a "use case" after almost a thousand years later!!!

Two Hivians giving a speech on the importance of decentralization 😂
And there we are... at the end of this walk that lasted almost one millennium... From the past to the present... I have a few dozen photos from this awesome place, and I hope I will find time to share them in some of the next posts... You can find more information about the Palace on the Wikipedia page.
In the meantime, if you are bored, you can check out other places pinned on my WorldMapPin!
Thank you for your time,

Another pin on the map! (Singing Queen song along) 😃
😎😎😎
Wish the only problem would be their being away for me. I also need a visa to visit them and Spain is in my list this year 😉
I don't know what dumb person invented traveling visas! It's so discriminatory toward certain countries! I hope one day the whole world be united, without borders, visas, and other stupid shit!
You can't imagine the situation. We are ready to pay 90 EUR visa fee and 30 EUR agent comission, but we can't find an appointment date 😶 Some people pay 200 EUR not to be bothered, like blackmarket.
F^%#&! That sucks big time! Corruption at the highest level! 😤
So cool you met up with and were shown around by hive friends and it looks am amazing place
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk and have a good day
It is a place with a lot of Spanish history! People think that history was written in Madrid and Barcelona, while the truth is that many other places had a huge role in it!

From where you moved to Spain?
I guess most of Spain big cities must be great, architecture, museums, palaces... That was a big and interesting walk for sure, must have taken a while
I would say not just big cities... You have some beautiful small towns, some with just hundreds of inhabitants!
I was living in Serbia and moved to Spain 13 years ago...
Oh Serbia to Spain is like night and day
All image are very attractive. Very beautiful place. Thanks for share.🤝🙋♀️✌️
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you liked it! 💜
Very welcome
A wonderful walk!! It’s amazing to see the Aljafería Palace under your eyes, hehe… I always say that it’s a little Alhambra. That’s why I had to visit the Granada's monument when I had the opportunity. They’re different but so beautiful both.
It was a pleasure to see this with your company. (Two days in a row with “that hiver” face appearing here is too much for my shyness… 🙄) We have to organise a new touristic tour! 😁😘
Pd. I miss an Spanish version of this and a cross post. 😂
Before visiting Aljafería, I thought that Alhambra was the only, well-preserved place from that period... After visiting the Palace in Zaragoza, I changed my mind... 😃 It's true that Aljafería had more renovations, but despite all that, it still has the "old look"!
I knew I would get some kicks for not doing that... 😂 Believe me, I had that in the plan, but it took longer than expected to prepare the post and I just wanted to publish it asap... The next one will have a Spanish version too! Not a promise, but almost... 😂 🤣
Thanks once again for being our tour guide in Zaragoza!! 🙏
You were very applied tourists, I won't mind repeating as many times as you want. 😄
I annotated that promise.
Grand palace, lovely photos. This post should go into Liotes picks. 😎
Thanks! It is definitely a place worth visiting! 😍
It sounds like a place with a ton of history, and being with others makes it even better. I have never been there, but it looks like a nice place to visit when you want to just relax.
That palace was used by many generations and it has tons of history inside those walls... Not just Spanish history, but the history of Europe and the world!
A beautiful place, the ancient Caesar Augusta.
Amazing architectural design, truly unique. It's great that they still preserve structures like this. Going to this place also allowed you to meet your Hive friends. Spanish Islamic architecture is truly a treasure to behold. Love the art on the ceiling too. Hopefully this building can stand the tests of time for the coming generations to see. That's the kind of walk I want to have someday.
It is an amazing and unique place, that's for sure!!! I have no doubts that the building will stand the test of time! It's already been tested through centuries!!!
Thanks for checking out my post! 🙏
Wow what a nice place with lots of different stuff to see! Good to have a catchup with Hivians too!

I had no idea that something like this palace existed until Paloma invited us to go for a visit! I'm glad that we did it!
If those walls could talk, they could write the whole history of Spain and Europe!
What a great place that shows so much history. Its great to see such an older structure being taken care of so well. I felt like a king going along with you on your tour of it 👑
Some often overlook what's available to see in one's own country. Sure traveling distances is required to see different landscapes and things. I still haven't been everywhere in my own.
There is indeed no palace like this everywhere, but I see comments like "I wish I would have a place like this..." on posts where I would take photos from an ordinary walk in the nearby woods, or a park... Everyone has that... It's just a matter of going out and exploring!
On the other side, visiting other countries and places is important too... To explore different cultures, to respect other nations, customs, traditions... All that makes us better humans!
I agree and I got that opportunity when I served in the military. On much longer stays than a typical vacation.
Greetings from Spain @ph1102
on behalf of the @hive-spain team! 👋
We could say that that first meeting sowed the seed of what is today the Hive Spain community. It is a pleasure that this small group of great users of the platform could meet and create such beautiful bonds.
The Aljafería Palace is one of those magnificent historical structures that reflect the cultural exchange in which Spain has always been involved.
It must be lucky to be over there and take a Wednesday tour in such a wonderful place.
Sending you a big hug! 🤗
The next post about Spain (place or tradition) goes to the #hive-spain community! 😃
And regarding the meetup, it was so interesting that we couldn't end it, standing in the middle of a street talking while all bars were already closed... 😂
🙌🙌🙌
That's a great way to remember the fun of it, wanting to keep from saying goodbye.
Looking forward to your next post =D

You are very welcome @ph1102! it was well deserved. ☀️
Keep up the great work 💪
Wow! what a beauty Zaragoza Palace! The detailed carvings and architectural design are superb!
In that period, they really liked to make everything detailed! 😍
Hahaha I see myself reflected in that, looking for flights and measuring distances when I see a post that triggers my travel alarm hahaha. I also understand that agony of the first years after emigrating, being in a place not being able to even think about doing anything other than working and subsisting makes time slip through our fingers, then, when things are better, one wonders how we could spend so much time like that. Life is very strange.
By the way, I recently had the chance to finally enter the parliament hall, which I had not coincidentally gone to, and I remembered you guys a lot hahaha.
I love that you drop the link to your WorldMappin profile at the end, good idea actually, I don't know how come you don't have the tab in peakd with the map enabled, that option is very cool.
There are 2 crucial problems... time and money... 😂
Oh, so it's not always open for visitors? It looks like we were lucky! To be honest, I can't remember that we asked anyone for permission... lol... 🤣
There you are! Drop that suggestion to the Peakd and Ecency teams... 😉
I was suggesting it to you, my friend.
Hahahaha... I'm officially blind... 😂
Thanks!
What an amazing place is this...
Thank you for sharing
It is true that we do not always have the ability to travel far away .. thankful for all hivers - travelers and of course .. Worldmappin!
Thank you very much! It's always great to travel around the world through the posts from other Hivians! 🙂
