On the way home along 10 de Octubre Avenue [en/es]
Greetings to all my friends in the Paseo de Miércoles community. Today I want to share my experience walking home along Avenida 10 de Octubre, a stroll that transforms the daily routine into a trip filled with Havana charm. With this tour, I'm taking advantage of this opportunity to join @tattoodjay's weekly challenge. I hope you enjoy it.
Last Monday, after a hard day advising and reviewing Internal Control processes at the MSME where I work, my husband picked me up so we could walk home together. We passed along part of Avenida 10 de Octubre, one of the busiest streets in Havana, which luckily greeted us with an unexpected calm. Taking advantage of the lack of traffic and the sunny day, I took several photos that illustrate the essence of this vibrant street.

Hoy quiero compartir mi experiencia regresando a casa por la Avenida 10 de Octubre, un paseo que transforma la rutina diaria en un viaje lleno del encanto habanero. Con este recorrido, aprovecho la oportunidad para unirme al reto semanal de @tattoodjay. Espero que lo disfruten.
El lunes pasado, después de un día arduo asesorando y revisando los procesos de Control Interno en la MIPYME donde trabajo, mi esposo me recogió para que regresar juntos a casa. Recorrimos parte de la Avenida 10 de Octubre, una de las calles más transitadas de La Habana, que por suerte nos recibió con una calma inesperada. Aprovechando la falta de tráfico y el día soleado, tomé varias fotos que ilustran la esencia de esta vibrante calle.
Although this avenue runs through one of the oldest areas of the city, the stretch near La Palma is striking for its lush vegetation. The trees not only adorn the landscape but also provide shade and relief from Havana's sweltering heat. This contrast between the urban and natural landscapes makes the area very attractive.
Aunque esta avenida atraviesa una de las zonas más antiguas de la ciudad, el tramo cercano a La Palma destaca por su exuberante vegetación. Los árboles no solo adornan el paisaje, sino que también brindan sombra y alivio del calor sofocante de La Habana. Este contraste entre el paisaje urbano y el natural hace que la zona sea muy atractiva.
One element that never goes unnoticed in Havana is its vintage cars. During the tour, I noticed a significant presence of these "rolling gems," as I like to call them. Each vehicle has its own story and character, providing a nostalgic touch that fascinates me and inevitably captures my attention.
Un elemento que nunca pasa desapercibido en La Habana son sus autos clásicos. Durante el recorrido, noté una presencia significativa de estas "joyas rodantes", como me gusta llamarlas. Cada vehículo tiene su propia historia y personalidad, aportando un toque nostálgico que me fascina y capta inevitablemente mi atención.
Arriving at the intersection of Avenida de 10 de Octubre and María Auxiliadora, we come across the statue of the Virgin Mary Help of Christians. On its imposing pedestal, the image of the Virgin with her scepter, crown of stars, and the Child Jesus in her arms seems to serenely guard the avenue. This place is more than a structure; it is a spiritual symbol for many residents of the area.
Al llegar a la intersección de la Avenida 10 de Octubre y María Auxiliadora, nos encontramos con la estatua de la Virgen María Auxiliadora. En su imponente pedestal, la imagen de la Virgen con su cetro, corona de estrellas y el Niño Jesús en brazos parece custodiar serenamente la avenida. Este lugar es más que una estructura; es un símbolo espiritual para muchos residentes de la zona.
Next to the statue, an elegant colonial house with red tiles and a circular tower catches my eye every time I pass by. Surrounded by palm trees and an iron fence, this architectural gem stands as a silent witness to Havana's rich architecture. Its impeccable preservation makes it a visual attraction that never ceases to amaze me.
Junto a la estatua, una elegante casa colonial con tejas rojas y una torre circular me llama la atención cada vez que paso. Rodeada de palmeras y una verja de hierro, esta joya arquitectónica se alza como testigo silencioso de la rica arquitectura de La Habana. Su impecable conservación la convierte en un atractivo visual que nunca deja de sorprenderme.
My return home, although ordinary, becomes an experience of connection with the city and its culture. Every detail of this avenue tells a story, and sharing it today fills me with satisfaction. I hope you enjoyed this walk with me!

I love the idea of couples going home together from work just like what you and your hubby did. The street looks calm with less traffic and few pedestrian. I love streets that are filled with trees along them; makes our walking comfortable and the green view soothes our tired eyes. Wow, those vintage cars with vibrant colors look awesome. That colonial house is a landmark in this place especially with the statue near it.
