#Wednesday Walk - Visiting Some of the Waterfalls in Our Area

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

For my #wednesdaywalk post today, I thought it might be a good idea to use waterfalls as a theme.

There might be one or two photos that I have shared before, but in general, these are photos that I haven't shared before.

Let's start with the smallest one first...it also happens to be the one closest to where we stay.

Giba Gorge Waterfall.

The Giba Gorge Waterfall is found in the Giba Gorge Adventure Park.

I took a hiking trail that led to this little waterfall. Going through a scenic area out in nature, it's a hike over a distance of 5 km to get to the waterfall.

Kranskloof.

The next waterfall is also relatively close to where we stay. It is in KRANSKLOOF, which borders the Kloof residential area.

It is also known as "Krantzkloof". The nature reserve is still known as Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, but I see on Google Maps that the gorge area is shown as Kranskloof.

It originally comes from the German word "krantz" which is an encircling or overhanging wall of rock. Then, the Afrikaans word "krans" is borrowed from Dutch. "Kloof" is an Afrikaans word, meaning "gorge".

This waterfall is seen from the road while driving on the outskirts of the Kloof residential area.

Paradise Valley.

The next waterfall, once again close to where we live, is located in the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve.

We went for a hike in Paradise Valley to see the waterfall in this nature reserve. It is a hike of about 30 minutes to get to the waterfall.

You first reach the river, and then arrive at the top of the waterfall.

You can get some beautiful views of the waterfall from here.

Zooming in for a nice close-up shot.

We then followed the trail to the bottom of the falls, from where I took the next photo.

For the next photo, I zoomed in on the water just before it hit the bottom...

Howick Falls.

The next waterfall is further away from us. We live in the Outer West area of Durban, which is on the east coast of South Africa.

The Howick Falls is further west, going inland. It is about 85 km from where we live.

We also visited the Howick Falls on another day when it was most impressive. I have to dig for those photos though, but I did find this video that I took that day.

I battled a bit with keeping it in focus and taking the video with my phone, I also had a hard time keeping it steady as we had a very strong wind that day.

But anyhow, here is the video. I hope it gives you a good idea of the beauty of Howick Falls.

## Conclusion.

I think by now you all know I love nature. I love water. I can spend hours in nature, especially when there is water around.

With that, we come to the end of today's post.

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!

Waterfalls will all be pumping now after rain and snow inland, you also get some fall colours being slightly inland, each one terrific living in a dry country.

Have a brilliant new month, thanks for sharing.

We were just discussing it as well after I published this post. We were talking specifically about the waterfall in Giba Gorge in my first photo... It was just a little "trickle" when I took that photo, but I think it must be pumping now!

You must have a great November too, @joanstewart!

Falls must be pumping in many places replacing trickle after lovely rains have been had, now when the sun reappears sweltering hot in no time at all.

That's some fine landscape you have out there in KZN! Gorgeous.
