#Wednesday Walk - At Doonside Beach

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

Last weekend we had a quick outing on Sunday morning before meeting up with the kids for the afternoon.

My wife wanted to get something from the craft market in Illovo.

We always pass Doonside Beach, going down to Warner Beach, Winkle Spruit, and Illovo.

This time I decided to stop over at Doonside Beach. We didn't have much time on our hands, because, as mentioned, we had an arrangement with the kids for the afternoon.

But making a pitstop at Doonside Beach sparked an idea for me. I would like to start at the top end of Amanzimtoti and work my way down to the southern end in Illovo, doing some posts in the future about the various beaches, places to visit, and things to do in the area.

So, this week's post will be relatively short, but it will give you a glimpse of Doonside Beach...

Doonside Beach

There is a nice, quite big parking area just above the beach.

Just before taking a walk down to the beach, I looked up at the apartment building next to the parking area, and I was fascinated by the small white clouds, with the sun shining brightly on them from behind the building.

DSC_8354.jpg

Just before going onto the beach, looking down south, you can see the apartment building on Warner Beach sticking out behind the dune.

In the foreground is the Little Manzimtoti River, arriving at the ocean, but first running along the beach and passing behind that dune before mounting into the ocean at Warner Beach.

DSC_8356.jpg

Zooming in a bit on the dune, with Warner Beach being right behind it. From here (standing on Doonside Beach), taking a stroll of about 150 meters will take you to Warner Beach.

DSC_8357.jpg

Doonside Beach is normally a quiet beach. Although I believe it is ideal for swimming, during our visit, I found these "no swimming" signs on the beach. Yet, the lifeguards were on duty with their equipment ready for action.

DSC_8358.jpg

Looking at the lifeguard equipment from a different angle, with some activity visible on Warner Beach in the background. You can also see the tidal pool stretching out into the surf on Warner Beach.

DSC_8362.jpg

Their board is ready for action. Just to be picked up and run into the ocean...

DSC_8361.jpg

Standing here on Doonside Beach, I could see a guy who launched his wet bike into the ocean and headed straight into the surf on Warner Beach.

Wanting to get some action shots of this guy...he was so near, yet so far...if you get what I mean. Not having such a powerful lens to "pull" him in for some nice shots, I did the best I could and had to crop the photos somewhat to make him clearly visible...

Can you spot him in the next photo?

DSC_8368.jpg

Going in deeper, getting behind the surf...

DSC_8369.jpg

I took the last shot for this post, as he came a bit closer, passing just behind the surf at Doonside Beach.

DSC_8365.jpg

And that's it for today, folks. Thank you for reading my post!

I do appreciate it!

Baggies beach AKA Doonside/Warner Beach is closed to swimming for Ecoli still hence no swimmers in the water. Lifeguards on duty may be there to warn folk or watch out for any washed off surf boards or fishing from the rocks at the moment.

Sad state of affairs down our South Coast beaches with sewage still seeping into rivers from many spots all along the shoreline here.

Very special beach, exceptionally popular when open and available for all to enjoy.

Oh my goodness! That is so sad...! It makes sense then what you say about the lifeguards being on duty.

It is such a beautiful beach indeed!

First house we rented on arrival is across from the bridge 2 Colin Road, currently used as an estate agent. Gorgeous views from old verandah watching electrical storms play along the horizon out to sea. Walking distance to everything, we used to commute by train to the original Durban station for work daily.

Watching change happen being on the beaches every weekend over the years, seasonal crabs by the millions, lagoon pushing up or down coastal direction depending on winds and tides, high dunes washed into the sea with one sweeping swooping storm, nature is amazing.

Dogs love the river to swim in, it is simply a no go over last few years.

Will always be a beautiful beach, society needs to learn respect everything we have been gifted.

So many wonderful memories! That's awesome! But it's such a pity that so many of those memories are all that is left and we can only tell others about them.

Will always be a beautiful beach, society needs to learn respect everything we have been gifted.

That is so true!

When lagoons were clean the fish spawned in them feeding the sea with fresh life, nature will adjust itself when humans are out of the equation.

That is a fact. Covid-19 caused havoc, yet, I was amazed at the many reports I heard about how nature was healing while the human race had to stay indoors...

People need to learn to respect nature, it surprises me as most of our folk grew up with animals, we never had these problems previously.

Yes, quite a contrast, isn't it?

Thank you, @littlebee4! I appreciate the kind words!

I didn't get to do all the reading I wanted to do as I was offline most of the time this week due to having problems with our supply of electricity. I am busy trying to catch up now. I really am looking forward to reading your posts that I didn't get to yet. I mention this to you so that you can know I didn't forget...I was offline...and frustrated...lol!

Have a great day!

You are welcome @jacoalberts 👋🏻😊
Sorry for my late reply. We got caught up importing the car. Not there yet, but almost. Let’s hope we get the new number plates coming week.

Sorry to hear about the electricity shortages.
No worries, I am behind at the moment too and trying to catch up.
Aawww thank you kindly, that is nice of you.
I can imagine it can be frustrating. As nowadays we use the internet and electricity for everything.

Have a great weekend my friend! Enjoy 😊

I'm glad to hear that you've got the car! I'm crossing my fingers for you to get the new number plates sorted out quickly!

We live in a complex, and the owner of the property is busy building an office to manage the complex. It is right next to our house. I have no problem with that as such... It is just that he has no consideration for other people and he is causing interruptions and disruptions and there is a huge lack of communication...

Anyway, we'll survive...lol! But we are starting to wonder if it's really worth putting up with all the frustrations!

Thank you kindly @jacoalberts 👋🏻😊 let’s hope, today was a bank holiday here so nothing happened.

Oh my, sounds like he has no consideration. Sorry to hear that. Hope he finishes soon and all goes back to normal.

Oh, I can imagine, after a while one does wonder and start to question.
Take care my friend. Hope it will eases off a bit.
Happy Monday evening ☀️🌹

Wow! I miss the beach. Is there a reason why it's 'no swimming' season? Perhaps strong waves or the like? This looks like a really lovely beach though. I have to travel some hours to get to a proper beach from where I live. Also, it's typhoon season here at the moment. LOL! I'll have to wait for better weather. Thank you for sharing your lovely photos. An advance happy weekend...

Hi, @iamraincrystal! That "no swimming" is actually a sad situation. I was aware of the situation earlier but thought it had been cleared. But one of the local residents in that area, @joanstewart, informed me that the beaches there are still closed due to Ecoli levels in the water. They have sewage seeping into the rivers and then ending up in the sea.

You can see her comment here.

Oh wow! I think if it's typhoon season, it would be better to rather wait for better weather. As much as I love the ocean, I have great respect for it!

Have a great weekend!

Hrmmm...yeah, sewage in the ocean water is not very good. There haven't been efforts to rectify it? Happy weekend, @jacoalberts! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

To start off with, maintenance is absolutely pathetic to non-existent. Other than that, there are numerous promises but we never see the results...or manifesting of those promises. And then you can ad corruption to the list as well...
