Walking and Picking Tulips
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share some photos from a recent farm trip that I went on, where I randomly happened to get to pick some fresh tulips!

Walking and Picking Tulips
I likely sound like a broken record for the people who routinely stop into my posts, but I absolutely love spending time at farms! A lot of people in the world want to go to the cities and big urban areas. Me? I want to spend more time at farms!
I left work the other day, my side work, and was on the way home when my wife suggested I stop at one of the farms that was kind of nearby to get some fresh fruit and food. It was my first time going to this farm, but my wife had been a bunch of times recently, so I said fuck it let's give it a whirl! I'm really happy that I did!
When I pulled up to the farm, I saw this huge crowd of people all over the place. I was confused but then saw that there were a shitload of tulips in big rows and figured that it was a pick your own event! We love pick your own things! We always go to PYO fruit like strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, apples and others that we can find. This wasn't the first time we'd been to a pick your own flowers event but this was definitely my first time at a pick your own tulip event! Tulips are a nice flower because they are an early species, getting the bees plenty of nice nectar and pollen in the spring so they can come back to life for the rest of the summer and autumn!
The event was clearly popular, the amount of people in the field was a lot more than I thought it would be! I also don't think that the tulips here would last much longer, so I'm glad that I got in when I did so I could get a few good ones!
The tulips were all over the place, and had some really great colors. I love the blended ones they had but the solid ones here were good. I tried to get two of each of the major colors: two yellow, two purple, two red, two white-purple and two yellow-red. The hybrid ones were really interesting looking! I don't think I've ever seen the hybrid ones, at least in the wild so I wonder if they are some genetically spliced type of flower. At any rate though, they looked wonderful!
The event was really popular with a lot of people which was nice. The timing of it was likely a factor in there as well, with it being pretty close to Mothers Day when I was there, though the post is going up after Mothers Day, it was still really nice to get there in time for a few flowers for the wonderful mothers in our lives!
What I really liked about this farm too was the sheer size of it! The thing was gigantic and I didn't even get to explore a small portion of it here. They had two huge parking lots so there is definitely a lot of room for people to come in, check out their wares and spend the day. They had a nice grounds setup, so I suspect in the summertime there are families flocking all over this place. I saw plenty of picnic tables and areas for kids but also plenty of areas for the older generation so it was certainly catering to everyone you could think of.
I really liked that at the end of it, you got to keep the tulip bulbs! We are going to plant the bulbs in the ground at the lake house so that we can surprise everyone next year with them sprouting up. I hope we can get the stuff to survive the rest of the year in the ground, but who knows. I gave away some of the bulbs to a friend of ours, so I don't know what bulbs we are actually keeping but still, it's nice to plant some flowers, especially in an area where it may be a little challenging for the bees to find some food!

haha the owner must have predicted the number of people who might visit the farm, hence they have built a big parking lot.
but who would miss the tulip-picking event right? it was once a year, and I guess a short visit would not be that bad. : )
Right?! They obviously attract a lot of visitors to have such a big parking lot. My kind of place! Lol. It was great and we are going to visit the farm again in the various picking events to see what they’ve got to offer!
Hmm
So you mean you prefer going to the farm instead of going to the cities and all?
Well, a farm gives you that natural view but I love to visit the city more😃😃
I've lived in the city and in the stage of life I'm at, I want nothing to do with it besides visiting every so often. No thanks!
First time I can see a field of tulips, here in my country they are not cultivated, it must be because of the temperature, without very beautiful flowers and I did not know that they had already managed to obtain hybrids...
The yellow ones mixed with reddish tones are very beautiful....
They seem to be very resistant flowers with thick textures... no?
And there were no black tulips?
There were dark purple tulips but no black ones. They may do black ones at other places but this one was doing these colors and some wonderful orange ones. I'm glad you got to see them though! It's nice to interact with people on hive from all around the world. It's made me appreciate where I live so much more!
Of course, it really is a blessing to be able to appreciate distant lands here in Hive through the experiences of each person....
Thank you for sharing this beautiful tulip cultivar.
They are very beautiful tulips! Glad you were able to take some home, they are so colorful, it's nice to have some around to decorate the room or to give as gifts.
Here in Argentina there is a very important tourist event with tulips. It takes place in the city of Trevelin, province of Chubut, in October. A large field planted with incredible colors. This event lasts only a few weeks before they are cut and given away (or sold, I'm not sure). Then, in November they have another event where a plane flies over the field causing a rain of colored petals. I wasn't part of the event but it sure is great :D

Damn that's an awesome event! I would love to see that once, it sounds like a great time. It sounds like you should do some exploring and go to it this year :D
I was in Trevelin last month, it's a nice little town, but I don't think I'll be back for the tulip season. I'll be happy to see the pictures online 😅.
Just like that, the day is very special when we get such beautiful weather and see beautiful flowers.
Good weather and nice flowers. One can't ask for much more!
