Mountain Foundry Walk
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share some cool pictures of a historical mountain foundry that we found recently when we went for a trip to the mountains!

Mountain Foundry Walk
It's funny and a great bit of fun, when my family and I go on trips of all kinds we tend to find a whole lot of random but incredibly cool things that can sometimes be pretty darn interesting!
We recently took a trip to the beautiful mountains, one of my favorite places to be for sure, and were mainly there to check out the beautiful autumn color of the foliage. We saw quite a bit of that and also enjoyed a number of other things such as just randomly stopping on the ride while we were driving because the little man saw something that he thought would be interesting. I'm glad that we stopped, because it certainly was pretty darn cool!
When I was driving, I typically keep an eye out for all kinds of stuff so that if we see something on the road we are at, we will usually stop so we can do a little bit of exploring and let the little man out to stretch his legs and have some fun. He was quicker than I was for this one though, I can admit that!
We were driving down from getting a delicious breakfast at a nice local pancake house and we drove over a bridge that covered a river. The little man is always obsessed with rivers and driving over them or near them is one of his passions. Even if it's a tiny brook a couple inches wide, he will always comment for us to take a look at the river! It's really an adorable thing and quite enjoyable. He made a comment for us to stop for this one so we did. First thing we see when we get out of the car? Perhaps the best picture that we got up-close of some of the fall foliage colors even though we drove through picturesque areas lol such is life though.
So we are out and about exploring and we see a sign for one of the last remaining stone outdoor foundry's in the state! I was really shocked but pretty excited. @sagesigma this is where your peeps got it, I would think LOL. He works at a foundry out in the midwest which I think is really cool because it's not a job that you hear too often these days, working for a foundry even if you're not the one down on the floor doing the awesome metal shit.
This foundry is unique because it's still standing. A lot of the ones that were from this time period have fallen apart or were destroyed but this one is still standing and if I remember the sign correctly, this was built in the mid 1800's roughly. Pretty damn cool to have something that's nearly 200 years old and still standing! I think they've done some restoration work to it of course, to make sure that it is strong enough to withstand the elements around here.
I was a little sad because we were walking around exploring the area and we were hoping to find a bridge that would lead us over to the building so we could take a closer look at it. Unfortunately, and probably for the best considering how rude some people are these days, there was no such bridge and you had to admire it from afar. Thankfully we have a nice long-range camera lens these days and we were able to get this pretty cool shot of it haha. Thankfully the people have a sense of humor!! That is also something that is gone to the wayside these days.. but I digress.
The little man was also happy because he got to spend some time next to the river! That's his favorite place to be for sure, hanging out on the rocks and picking things up. He found some pretty sweet rocks himself and made sure to stash some away. We also got some nice pictures of the beautiful water rolling on by, some cool colors abound and just stood there for a little while and took in the sights, smells and sounds of nature to give ourselves a little bit of a respite from the craziness of modern life.
I know it wasn't for long but I really appreciate these moments now, more so of late because of the craziness of my work and work schedule. When I get to decompress and spend time with the most important people in my life in a beautiful place like this, it really brings me back down to earth where I belong and that's what was the most important part about the trip. I will admit I was a little moody for some parts of it but I know that it was important for me to put that dumb shit aside and focus on what really matters which I thankfully did get to do that.

that is pretty sweet! yeah foundries, man, are something else..I've spent some time on the floor and wow, talk about old school. Apparently they are an extension of every communities blacksmith shop way back when. Lots to learn!
Yeah dude for sure! It's like going to a butcher in a lot of ways, where you are going to the source of your products. The blacksmiths would go to the foundry since they needed the iron rods and stuff they would use. It's crazy how we become so disconnected with these things these days but I'm glad to discover the importance of the past more and more!
ah if i only i knew the art of butchering animals...I would love to own and manage a retro style butchershop in this area. Such a skill
Start out by hunting man! I want to hunt so bad just to get small game and stuff to step up my learning and skills to move up to bigger game like deer and stuff. It is indeed an important skill!
yeah i need to get there...I thought next year my brother and I with our girls could start fishing. There is a fish here called a sunfish, and I'd love to start catching them and grilling them on the Traeger (which I have yet to purchase, but soon!)
Yeah there's a reason the sunfish are called panfish! People love to cook those bitches up lol. I don't trust the waters around me to have fish that aren't contaminated with all kinds of stuff so I haven't cooked any.. but I will definitely be trying to get a trout or two and cook them up with my son! We've been really trying to get something that we would keep but haven't had a lot of luck yet.
Fingers crossed you get out there for some fishing man! Not enough fathers take their daughters fishing I think, so props to you and your brother!
The autom color is wonderful. I would like to visit a place like that in that season. It must be a magical experience.
It is and the funny thing is that I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have growing up. It wasn't until talking to the people on hive that are from all over the world before I realized how beautiful it is and how lucky I am!
Autumn is always wonderful. It has a kind of orange colour which looks amazing
The pictures look good and I'm glad you had a wonderful time with your family
Thank you, the colors are indeed beautiful!
This is lovely
Thanks I agree!
Such lovely rich and warm colors of autumn and how cool to come across that old Foundry
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Thanks man! I love coming across these types of things and you're always going to in New England that's for sure!
Despite you took the photograph from afar, they still look beautiful
Thanks! I would have liked to be closer but just glad to see it how we did at least. Thanks for checking it out.
I myself am very fond of visiting such special and old places and the more knowledge I get about them the more I am happy to see that these scenic mountains are looking more beautiful.
Thanks my friend I agree! It's a beautiful place indeed! Appreciate you stopping by.
Most welcome dear.
Wow! I love seeing the color of the leaves indicating the coming of the autumn season my friend. I have always been wishing for an autumn season since I have not experienced it since I was younger. But I love my place too despite not having both the winter and autumn. I see you are having a great time and I love how serene this place is my friend. Happy Wednesday Walk!
