Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to enjoy some pictures of the grasses and some flowers as they are growing!

Grassy Walk

We typically see people sharing all kinds of pictures of some nice flowers but this time, I wanted to see if I could appreciate the grasses of one of the fields we visit every so often!

One of the places that we were visiting every week for quite a while, and have recently paused for the summer, has been a nice place to watch grow and break free of the stranglehold of winter and the freezing temperatures. Seeing the place come back to life has been a wonderful change! A lot of the focus I've had has been on the trees and beautiful flowers that were on full display for a while but one thing that I slowly started to notice was the ability of the grass to come back and start to really show itself!

I know for sure that many people don't really appreciate grass, hell I don't really that much but it is a very important element of the natural cycle of the environment! We take for granted that it's one of those things that does it's hardest job to just grow, and grow constantly lol. I know not many people understand the importance of grass but without it, many animals wouldn't be able to graze and get the nutrients that they need to in order to become a part of the food chain. A lot of the bigger animals like cows, deer, horses and a lot of others depend on grasses for part or whole of their diet. I don't know how many deer are walking through this area here, although it is quite a nicely sized plot of land, but it would be nice to see them bring a big horde of goats or something onto the land to graze it down to just nibs!

They do cut it every fall and will come through and cut certain sections that people like to walk on but for the most part, it's just left alone and be a giant field. I might write to the town it's in to see if they can figure out how they would get a farmer to bring a herd of goats on here so the goats can eat all the grass and get some wonderful food and compost going, so that we can replenish the soil quite nicely and it likely would also help reduce the farmers bills a little bit, with the free meal that they are getting from the giant field here!

I am a little annoyed at my hasty picture taking, I don't love the off-center of some of the pictures lol but dealing with it as I can hehe.

Not far from the field though are some really nice flowers! There's a few lilac bushes at one of the sections and lilac is certainly becoming one of my favorite plants in the spring time! It's got such a wonderful smell and it's really vibrant and full of color and beauty. It's funny how as we get older we sometimes are learning more things like this which we may have been exposed to as a kid but never really paid much attention to it, for common reasons like just being a kid and not having an interest in some things. Thankfully though, as an adult I've really learned to start appreciating these small things so that I can gain some understanding of the world around us! It's also given me a number of ideas for things that I want to bring into the house one day, when we eventually get some land to grow these types of things. It would be nice to put a few lilac bushes on a part of the property!

Of course on the way home, not really in the general vicinity of the field, was this guy and his beautiful and ginormous rhododendron! It's not that big compared to some others but this thing is really doing well! We noticed it when we were out for a walk at one point and I made a point to come back here and check it out. I have seen the guy out cutting his grass or watering the lawn but when we walked by, I didn't get to see him to give him a compliment on his plant here. When I see the people who live in these houses that have nice flowers or plants in their property, I make sure to give them a bit of praise! I can see that they enjoy it, and hell if I was in their shoes I would enjoy it as well haha. I will eventually get to talk to the guy!

Thanks dude, yeah I love finding patches of grass when out on trails! Makes for fun exploration.

We don’t have a house yet, so I don’t know the challenge of mowing the lawn but I don’t think I’ll mind it too much! That might take a year or so before I change my mind on that lol

Lovely flowers!

I recently read in a post that the grass that many people see as "invasive" is really very useful for the small pollinators that we need so much... if you let the grass grow long enough then it will start to flower and the pollinators will be able to feed from them...

Yeah the grass that people prefer is quite useless to pollinators. It's essentially a barren wasteland, no flowers around and places for them to stop and have a snack or a drink. Not good! I fully plan to have a yard with a lot of variety around it when we eventually get a house!
