Hello to everyone who is part of the #WednesdayWalk. Like every Wednesday, it's time to share our walks of the day. However, to avoid the same formula that I usually use, today I will change the dynamics a little.

Today I visited a friend's house, but I don't think it's appropriate to show the world where his home is 😂, so I'd better tell you about the road I walk to get there.

It happens that my friend's house is not very far from mine, and to get there I have to walk along one of the most well-known streets in Santiago de Cuba.

Knowing that Aguilera Street is the longest in the city is part of the basic elements of the city, and it has gone through many changes to become what it is today.

Doing some research I found that in the seventeenth century it was called as the government street. Soon after it was extended to the south, looking for mercantile activity in the bay and therefore it was renamed "Calle de la marina". Currently it connects the deliveries Flores, Portuondo, Zamorana, Santa Bárbara to Vista Alegre and is the expedited way to reach San Juan and Al Caney.

Something that I don't like about this street (which is a common element in the geography of Santiago de Cuba) is its irregular relief, by which there are many ups and downs constantly. On the other hand, in this street we can find some colorful houses and even notice the presence of the set of 18-storey buildings on the parallel avenue Valeriano Garzón.

I'm surprised that by just wanting to share my walk to make a visit I ended up knowing more about the history and urbanism in my city 😂. As always, we will meet again next Wednesday. Until next time!

Hola a todos los que hacen parte del #WednesdayWalk. Como cada miércoles, es el momento de compartir nuestras caminatas del día. Sin embargo, para evitar la misma fórmula que acostumbro a utilizar, el día hoy cambiaré un poco la dinámica.

El día de hoy he visitado la casa de un amigo, pero no me parece oportuno mostrar al mundo dónde queda su hogar 😂, así que mejor les hablo del camino que recorro para llegar hasta allí.

Sucede que la casa de mi amigo no queda muy lejos de la mía, y para llegar hasta ella debo transitar por una de las calles más conocidas por Santiago de Cuba.

Saber que la calle Aguilera es la más larga de la ciudad forma parte de los elementos básicos de la ciudad, y es que esta ha pasado por muchos cambios para llegar a convertirse en lo que es hoy.

Investigando un poco encontré que en el siglo XVII era llamada como la calle del gobierno. Poco después se extendió hacia el sur, buscando la actividad mercantil en la bahía y por ello pasó a llamarse "Calle de la marina". En la actualidad conecta los repartos Flores, Portuondo, Zamorana, Santa Bárbara hasta Vista Alegre y es la vía expedita para llegar a San Juan y al Caney.

Algo que no me gusta de esta calle (que es un elemento común en la geografía de Santiago de Cuba) es su relieve irregular, por el cual hay muchas subidas y bajadas constantemente. Por otro lado, en esta calle podremos encontrar algunas casas vistosas e incluso notar la presencia del conjunto de edificios de 18 plantas en la avenida paralela Valeriano Garzón.

Me sorprende que por solo querer compartir mi caminata a hacer una visita haya terminado conociendo más de la historia y el urbanismo en mi ciudad 😂. Como siempre, nos reencontraremos el próximo miércoles. ¡Hasta la próxima!
