Walk by the sea
In summer I like to walk by the sea. For many years a holiday by the sea has meant a long, long walk... a special walk because until now it only happened in summer, this year I experienced something new, the holiday and therefore the walk, in other seasons. We went in January, so winter, we also went in May, so spring, and next at the end of June, so summer.
The trip with many photos and fewer words was in May in Balchik, on Bulgaria's Black Sea.
I specified this belonging of the Black Sea to Bulgaria because this sea also caresses the land of Romania, where I live. In the first part of my life, I traveled only in Romania to the sea, because I was not allowed to travel abroad.
With the turn of the new century and millennium, we chose the Bulgarian coast exclusively, for several reasons. Because it was new to me because it was different from the Romanian one. I don't know if it is more beautiful but it is more to my liking because I am a fan of the Mediterranean climate and the landscape is closer to the Mediterranean than Romania!
Balchik in May, the weather was neither spring nor summer, it was a pleasant mix of the two seasons.
The acacia was still in bloom, although it is an early flowering tree.
But at the same time, a harbinger of summer was everywhere, we saw it in the fields near the road we traveled and in the town near the sea where we arrived.
I don't know if this fragile flower is considered by others a harbinger of summer, but that's how I see it.
Any trip to a city by the sea has made me see this flower everywhere and for me, when I see it in the spring, I know I will soon reach the sea, and until now the sea was linked to summer.
Poppies!
The most popular place to walk in Balchik is a long promenade that separates the sea from the city. The town is higher up, here, next to the sea is the resort part. Hotels, shops, and restaurants, but above all, the domain of the former Queen Maria of Romania, the old part of the place.
The promenade connects the old, historical part with the newly built part for the comfort of tourists.
The walk here is long and tiring so a bench for a short rest is always welcome.
This bench with shade from the trees is perfect for resting and observing the scenery, primarily the sea!
The whole bay can be seen, in one part with the grain harbor and the harbor for boats and yachts.
On the other side, you can see the end of the resort, and then the walk continues to the next town and resort, Albena.
The harbor of boats and yachts is not well seen from here, it is better seen from above or closer.
I'm not a big fan of boats because I'm afraid of sailing in the first place. I prefer long piers going out to sea, I like to have something hard under my feet all the time...
The central part of the promenade is full of terraces and is the busiest part. This was not the case on this short holiday in May, as there were very few tourists.
However, there were a few tourists besides us.
Only a few dare to come to Balchik because here men have to offer ladies and the moon in the sky...
... that is if they are dressed properly!
Balchik was at first just a fishing village.
Behind the tourist buildings the people who live there lead a quiet life, not too rich but with a view of the sea...
I want to live there too, this explains why I come to this city so often.
This whole story might not interest anyone but I hope you find something interesting in the photos. Because, after all, photos are what it's all about.
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss.
This is one of the recommendations made by @tattoodjay for those who prefer walking and are used to sharing impressions and photos in his community, Wednesday Walk, every Wednesday, like this one today.
