Quality over quantity when it comes to commenting on Hive

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Today, I would like to talk about the habit of giving comments on Hive. In my opinion, this is one of the most important activities that will allow you to grow on this blockchain. Commenting is the key to meet people and to create friendships. However, the success of your commenting will depend on how you actually do it.

I have started the project @liotes with my friend @ph1102 and we actually met in the comment section of our respective posts on Hive. That should illustrate what is possible to achieve when you take commenting seriously on Hive.

Well, I usually comment with what I think 🤔. No quality and quantity too 😂. Look at the post, read it, comment if I want to 🤣

If you are doing that and you read actually at least part of it, you are doing it correctly :-)

Thanks for the mention and I can confirm that your story is truthful! 🤣

It was like that, we did meet in the comment section... Also, I can confirm that I met a lot of other people in the same way as giving "meaningful" comments is the minimum that we can do for someone... We appreciate the person, and usually, we understand the person better... Which is already a good start for building a healthy relationship!

The next step is to get drunk in the real life... 😂🤣

I have a long-standing question in my mind. What is the meaning of "liotes"?

Good question. They answered it when it all began, but it doesn't hurt to repeat from time to time. :)

Haha, good question. It's derived from a greek god of the west wind called Apeliotes.

I feel totally the same way about commenting... and receiving comments. :) But I guess things are what they are and we will receive both kinds.

There will always be some comments that are transparently showing that the author hasn't read the post and they are part of it :-). It's probably not with these people that we will try to build relationships ;-)

Well, @achim03 there are nice people, and then there are... I'll leave it at that. !LOL I've become a bit choosy in leaving comments, preferring to do so on friendlier grounds, so to speak 😂I hope you and @ph1102 get to meet in person too. That would be super cool! 😉 More power to @liotes 🎉

There are all kind of people in the world and why would it be different on hive :-). I feel a bit the same than you with leaving comments. I've gotten a bit choosy too or maybe it's an excuse for not commenting as much as I would like to :-)

You are absolutely right, I have been working on this project for five months too, that's the only way you can succeed in it. When people become your friends, they must support you because you are working hard from the heart. And if the content you have is good and you build it hard, people will definitely support you.

A really pressing problem right now. Even in my posts. And I don't have a lot of HP yet. I think I'll soon be voting on not all comments and at varying amounts, up to 100%, if a comment can really make a significant difference to me, Hive, or someone within Hive.

It's funny, it wasn't that long ago that I wondered about this question. Basically, if we encourage trash comments just as much as we encourage great ones, then we'll indulge in it growing and evolving. But if we're at least a small community doing things differently, maybe we'll give a boost to sustained interaction with ongoing value.

Have you thought about it that way?

And, yes, I agree, better 10 comments, but with substance or questions. Than, I didn't understand anything, but great! Great post.... You make such a good point...

You point out something important here. By supporting comments that are irrelevant or that are transparently showing that the content has not been read, we kind of give a wrong incentive. I will have to think about that. I like comments but sometimes I don't want to waste my time answering comments of people that haven't read what I posted....

Engagement is the key on Hive.
I usually try to engage but some time reading the comment and reply with thanks just to inform the commenter that I have read the comment (its one way of appreciating others) is also good in my opinion.

I agree that engagement is very important on hive but I think it's also good to have a certain standard in doing that.

Totally agree about your view! I think there are many ways to do it and it's up to individual preference. To be fair, from another angle, there are also users who don't reply to good and detailed comments so maybe that's why people feel discouraged and want to go for quantity. I know there are people who go for both quality and quantity too - these people really have a lot of time haha!

That happens quite often I agree. You read a post, think about a meaningful comment and then the author hardly gives an answer. That's very frustrating and in my opinion this is as bad as giving comments that are unrelated to the content. In both cases, people don't do anything to encourage the building of relationships.

Comments are a very important impact on the hive, If really want to grow on hive, you need to learn the art of commenting, this will allow to have more attraction with more people on hive and you will have increased engagement on your hive account and on your hive post.

The rule number one when it comes to commenting is: read the content first. When people comment just based on the title or the first line of text, this becomes quickly visible to the author and instead of building something positive, the commentator is actually showing a negative side to the author.
